February 24, 2009 - Our Disney DVD Schedule has been updated to reflect two new former Disney Movie Club exclusive DVDs that will quietly make their way to general retail this spring, including Walt's sixth live-action film. In addition, new dates have been set for the delayed Walt Disney Family Classics edition of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Disney's announced 3-disc set of Aamir Khan's Indian film Like Stars on Earth. Our latest DVD review covers Air Bud: Special Edition. The unassuming 1997 family drama that spawned a franchise centers on a lonely boy and the jump shot-making Golden Retriever who becomes his best friend and basketball teammate.
Kevin Zegers, Michael Jeter, Bill Cobbs, and Wendy Makkena star in this PG-rated hit, which is more thoughtful and better than the seven sequels that have followed. February 23, 2009 - Disney has issued a Bedtime Stories DVD/Blu-ray press release, spelling out the specs for the three early April releases in store for the $100 million-grossing Adam Sandler family comedy fantasy.
Kelvin Cedeno reviews Fox's recent Blu-ray release of Igor, MGM's mishmashed computer-animated comedy that made little noise in theaters last fall. February 21, 2009 - Our newest DVD review subject is Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Disney's widely criticized, highly profitable talking dogs movie. Drew Barrymore voices Chloe, a pampered California canine stranded in Mexico. Her vocal co-stars include George Lopez, Andy Garcia, and Cheech Marin, while Piper Perabo and Jamie Lee Curtis make live-action appearances. In stores March 3rd, the one DVD version holds widescreen and fullscreen formats, outtakes, deleted scenes, an all-new animated short, audio commentary, and an Easter Egg. February 20, 2009 - With the news embargo lifted, we can now report that Bedtime Stories will be coming to DVD on April 7th. The single-disc DVD ($29.99 SRP) will be free of bonus features, the Deluxe DVD Edition ($32.99 SRP) adds an audio commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes, four featurettes (including Adam Sandler's Big Daddy co-stars Dylan & Cole Sprouse shilling Blu-ray), and a digital copy second disc. Arriving two days earlier, the Blu-ray version ($39.99 SRP) will include everything but the Blu-ray promo and add some BD-Live and the barebones DVD.
Disney has announced May 19th as the day that Pixar's beloved hits A Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. will make their Blu-ray debuts. Two discs plus a digital copy ROM, Monsters ($40.99 SRP) will include the all-new ride featurette "Building Monstropolis in Tokyo", a filmmakers' round table, and BD-Live. One disc plus digital copy, Bug's Life ($39.99 SRP) adds a filmmakers' round table, BD-Live, and the original story treatment. Both slipcovered releases will also contain a movie ticket offer for the studio's 10th film, Up.
February 19, 2009 - The not-yet-launched Walt Disney Animation Collection: Classic Short Films line has already been scheduled to receive a second wave. Volumes 4, 5, and 6 will arrive on May 12th bearing foil slipcovers, collectible lithographs, and over an hour of vintage Disney cartoons including headliners The Tortoise and the Hare, The Wind in the Willows, and The Reluctant Dragon. Our Disney DVD Schedule has been updated with the full contents, listing the 16 shorts you can expect on these discs.
We've just posted Disney's Bolt Press Release, detailing the late-March DVD and Blu-ray debut for the Oscar-nominated latest movie from Walt Disney Feature Animation. You can own this CG comedy-adventure in three different versions, although the studio is dropping some subtle hints they'd like you to choose Blu-ray. Read the full announcement.

February 16, 2009 - It's time for us to take a look at High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Following two hit Disney Channel movies but going instead to theaters, this third installment covers the final months of East High's star class, with a basketball championship, a prom, uncertain futures, and one last autobiographical musical. The entire gang is back including Zac Efron as Troy, Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella, Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay, and Corbin Bleu as Chad. They're joined by a few new students who are sure to stay on for the TV-bound fourth movie. Disney's Extended Edition DVD adds five minutes of material to the already substantial theatrical cut and includes bloopers, 8 deleted scenes, 3 featurettes, sing-along subtitles, and a digital copy. Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe team up in Body of Lies. Directed by Ridley Scott and adapted by William Monahan (The Departed), this R-rated action thriller finds DiCaprio playing a CIA counterterrorism agent who develops a conscience in Amman while Crowe coaches him via earpiece from afar. "Phineas and Ferb": The Daze of Summer - The popular Disney Channel cartoon's second compilation serves up 10 quarter-hour episodes including "Unfair Science Fair", a two-parter that inspires the disc's four set-top games. Our review offers a 1-minute video previewing the unaired episode.
Space Buddies - The eighth film in Disney's Golden Retriever series and the third since moving to talking puppies, this one takes the five Buddies into outer space, where they make friends with a Russian Bull Terrier and have to overcome obstacles to land on the moon and return home. The DVD includes a track of Buddy Facts, a DisneyPedia featurette, bloopers, and an Alyson Stoner music video.
Oliver & Company: 20th Anniversary - 1988 animated feature turns Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist into the story of an orphaned New York City kitten who joins a band of street dogs. This modest musical hit preceded Disney's '90s animation boom.
Mary Poppins: 45th Anniversary Edition - The film's fourth and latest release, retains almost everything from its recent deluxe set and adds a documentary, performance, gallery, and MP3 from the Broadway stage show touring the country.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - DreamWorks' sequel to its 2005 hit keeps its cast of four New York zoo animals in Africa for various character discoveries. The "Move It, Move It Double DVD Pack" includes a bonus disc holding two episodes of Nickelodeon's forthcoming "Penguins of Madagascar" series plus a few other extras.
"Desperate Housewives": The Complete Fourth Season - Shortened but strengthened by the writer's strike, last season delivered a new housewife, a new mystery, a big tornado, and a future-leaping season finale. The 5-disc set provides 17 episodes, 7 audio commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers, and more.
Blindness - Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcνa Bernal, and Danny Glover star in this R-rated drama about a present-day city stricken with an inexplicable outbreak of "white blindness." Fernando Meirelles (City of God) adapted this thematically dark, visually innovative film from Josι Saramago's novel. Miramax's DVD includes deleted scenes and an hour-long documentary.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Mystery of the Easter Chipmunk - Paramount's disc holds the Chipmunks' half-hour 1995 Easter special and four quarter-hour episodes from the 1980s Saturday morning cartoon.
