my dad heard this movie was good and bought the DVD for $10 at Target, today. Was it really that good? It was the first Pixar movie I absolutely refused to see.......

In my opinion its one of the best movies Pixar has yet produced. The story is very simple but deep, charming and unforgettable. It has a very strong message that change can happen and dreams can come true as long as you work hard for it. The musical score is astounding, perhaps the best in ANY movie to date. The song "Le Festin" adds a lot of flair and class to a genre populated by horrid pop songs.

The animation is also amazing, as expected from Pixar. My only gripe is that Linguini can be annoying, but he ain't really bad. Oh yeah, the voice acting is great. You have everything from Pixar's own talent to legendary Oscar winners providing the voices.

So even if you think the movie wasn't that great you will enjoy it.

I bought the Blu-ray recently, and I am very happy with the additional extra features. The commentary and animation featurettes (both briefings and documentaries) are the best of the bunch.

The transition from DVD to Blu-ray has not been 100% seamless for me. Here are a couple of questions related to the menus/navigation.

1. Are the Cine-Explore menus more legible on a 16 X 9 TV? I had to get very close to my 4 X 3 26" set to make out the A la Carte options.

2. Do most Blu-rays put their Cine-Explore options under Play Movie? I'm used to finding those things under Bonus Features and occasionally Setup. I'm conditioned to think that hitting Play Movie will play the movie right away with no more button presses.

Picture quality is stunning. The animation looks gorgeous in HD. If that's something you value, it's not that bad of an upgrade.

3D, huh? Maybe since the Toy Stories' 3D release was successful. But don't you think it would've been better to go chronologically? This makes this release feel out of the blue. But it doesn't matter. Ratatouille is a pretty good looking film, and I think it'll do well with audiences. Not sure if I want to see it, though.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would see Ratatouille theatrically again, despite the addition of 3-D. Not only did did it come out less than five years ago, the appeal of Toy Story was that it was a double feature so you were paying one 3-D ticket for two films and it was a bargain that couldn't be passed up.

Or in the case of Beauty and the Beast, a chance to see a old-time classic on the big-screen (and I've seen Beast in every format minus laser-disc and of course, Blu-Ray). I loved the IMAX experience, so I'm looking forward to seeing Beauty and the Beast in the added dimension.

But, Ratatouille by itself in 3-D? Nah, I think I'm good. Now, if they bundled Finding Nemo and A Bug's Life together? Now, we're talking.

Meh - stop with the re-releases. I have no interest. I saw the film once in theaters, and a few times on DVD. Heck, I have an outdoor movie screen and projector if I want to re-live the theater experience. There's no reason I'd go see a film again just for the 3-D.

And of all the Pixar films, Ratatouille?

How'd they pick that?!

Nemo being my favorite might get me to the theater.

Incredibles being so many other's favorite would be the most successful.

But Ratatouille? What?!
