Classic LiveAction Discussion Series: Bedknobs and Broomstic

Post by Wonderlicious »

In the same vain as snowbot's Disney Theme Park Attraction Series, I've decided to come up with a series devoted to the most famous live action Disney films, which basicly are the Vault Disney titles or the live action combo films (so basicly the ones that I have heard of  )

Part 1: Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Yes Bedknobs And Broomsticks was always one of my favorite Disney Movies. But I am sure that Awallaceunc, can tell you even more about the film than I, seeing it is one of his top favorites.

Well as I started this post, so I'll just have to comment on the movie!

Bedknobs and Broomsticks, tied with Mary Poppins, is my favourite Disney live action movie. I remember we taped this movie off TV during Christmas 1996 and memories throughout Janurary 1997 included watching this movie over and over again. Even as an adult, I can find quite a bit of rewatchability in it, as I see myself popping the DVD in sometimes and skipping to my favourite scenes.

Speaking of the DVD, as they extended the movie years after its first re-release, did they have to redub the new scenes? I saw in the new end credits some new credits for certain characters that didn't match the original actors that played them. :?

I absolutely love this movie!

As a child I had the standard 114 minute version taped off the TV which I watched all the time! This got accidentally wiped sometime in the late 90s. Anyway it did not really bother me at the time being a teenager, a time when having less disney movies is usually a good thing, (now I've learnt the error of my ways! )

I toyed with getting the extended version on VHS but held out for the DVD and wow was I impressed. I feel the added scenes make the movie feel more full. The short version never seemed like it was missing anything, but once you've seen the extended version, there ain't no going back!

Yes the original footage was found, but they could not find the original language tracks so they needed to be redubbed. With the exception of the Song 'A Step in the Right Direction' where it was the other way round, the found the track but not the film!
