I guess it's better that this wasn't 2d, after all, it would've still bombed, and Disney would just use that as an excuse to put the medium back in the vault for another 15+ years.
When they do bring it back for real (and I'm sure they will eventually) , they better make sure the story and characters are top notch.

Well, this happens to be my new favourite Disney song, and I find it quite inspiring and memorable, not to mention uplifting and a true anthem for what Disney overall is from not only the protagonists, But literally any kind of characters point of view :-)

I liked the movie ok, but it kinda dropped in quality once they transformed into frogs. Overall the movie was just...fine. I can see why it didnt bring in a slew of new hand drawn projects. The story telling and character arcs just wasn't where it needed to be.

If you actually saw it within context of the movie, actually check it out for yourself, then maybe just maybe you might actually like it, because that’s actually kind of how I felt :-)

That’s not a fair comparison, man. Despite the $105M budget The Princess and the Frog had, it was still half of Wish and the former at least broke even/was a modest hit compared to Wish bombing. It’s really 2011 Winnie the Pooh that temporarily cost us hand-drawn projects at Disney when Mr. John Lassetter tried to kill them all when he killed Winnie the Pooh by releasing it the same weekend as the final Harry Potter movie and it bombed with $50M WW on a $30M budget.

Now that he’s gone, with the universal acclaim Once Upon A Studio has (along w/ a potential Oscar win for Best Animated Short) and maybe the Tiana series being a hit for Disney+, that is all we need to bring back hand-drawn animation back to Disney on a much, much bigger scale for say films like The Search for Mickey Mouse in 2028.

The budget for The Princess and the Frog was $70 million and not $105 as listed on Box Office Mojo. Here, you can find more details about the film's budget.

That's just pure wishful thinking on your part. The Search for Mickey Mouse was cancelled back in 2001-2002 and there's zero indication it's getting revived, 2D-animated or otherwise.

A. So it was still a hit either way.

B. It's more so being hopeful and optimistic than thinking wishfully. Also, never say never. It may have been cancelled at that time, but it came back into development to be Disney's 50th Animated Feature before Tangled took its place. If it can keep fighting to come back after two tries, it'll work the third time should it happen. Please, Sotiris, I understand your reasons of being doubtful, but do me a favor and PLEASE try to be optimistic like Christian Bale in Amsterdam was in saving the US from having its own dictator and ultimately winning in the end in saving the USA.

You know, D23ExpoVisitor25, sorry for butting in, but it`s not like Sotiris is being negative for the sake of negativity. Sotiris is just trying to be realistic and objective. It`s not like he`s (I`m assuming that Sotiris is most likely a male) being negative just to bother you or to keep the spirit down.

It was in an old forum that compiled the scarce pieces of info on it. I’d have to go up on the internet again to find out where I found it. But I know it was supposed to be the 50th Animated Disney Feature before Tangled took its place?

This was where I heard that rumor, which was said to have been sourced from WDW Radio: https://lostmediawiki.com/The_Search_fo ... ilm;_2002).

So, it was definitely not a fake rumor, not at all.

Getting back on topic, the following video about the movie is highly recommended for those either like or don’t like the movie:

This is what the Lost Media wiki you linked to says.
It was rumored that the project was cancelled until an unspecified day in 2005 when WDW Radio (a podcast website) reported that the film would be released in 2012 and would be Walt Disney Animation Studio's 50th Animated Feature, which brought back new hope back into the project.
I have checked WDW Radio and their very first episode was posted in 2007, not 2005 like the wiki claims. Anyone can edit a wiki and write whatever they want. If what they had claimed was accurate, they would have specified the episode of the podcast in which it was said and linked to it too. They didn't because whoever wrote that paragraph made it up.

Interesting ideas, Disneynerd, and maybe they would have made the film better. Though, I must say, I prefer the film the way it turned out to the story ideas as alternates you made for this film. Still, I know you are a good idea guy. That pitch video is also f-ing hilarious!

Kyle, yep, yeah, completely agree. If this was hand-drawn it may have further ruined hand-drawn's chances at the studio.

This is what veteran 2D animator Frans Vischer had to say about Wish. I fully agree with him, especially about the character animation. The hammy acting and over-the-top movements were noticable from the very first trailer.
Frans Vischer wrote:I just finished watching Disney’s latest animated feature, “Wish.” I agree with most reviews and opinions, “Wish” was made by committee with the usual shopping list of content; bland sidekicks, dumb throw-away jokes, characters look and act like typical Disney characters, especially the heroine, and the FX animation, (technically well-done,) visual pizazz to mask the lack of substance. But this can be said for the last four or five Disney features.

What really struck me about “Wish” is the animation- everything is overacted, every tiny nuance has its own gesture or pose, making the characters move almost constantly. The overdone lip-synch, every consonant painstakingly enunciated, as if the characters speak to the hearing impaired.

It seems the technology of CG animation has given the animators such control that everything must move, all the time. The beauty of animation sometimes lies in the lack of movement, (watch the original, [sadly in this day and age of countless sequels, this must be clarified] “101 Dalmations.” The characters move when they need to, and the subtler gestures work within a held pose.) But in “Wish” the movement is almost constant; cliché-ridden, distracting hand gestures, non-stop head tilts, shoulders moving up and down. It’s as if the technology is driving the art instead of the other way around.

Let’s hope the Disney brass realize their 100-year heritage and start making films worthy of it.

I hadn't necessarily noticed that when I saw the film, but that does kind of strike me as the sort of observation that, at least on a first viewing, would come more naturally to someone who works specifically with the process of animation. My issues were more with the illogic of the characters and the blandness of the songs, which are definitely not attributes I would have linked to the last four or five Disney features.

I personally might have attributed any overacting to just the style of character that Disney goes with these days--the overthetop, self-deprecating Rapunzel copycats--rather than the medium itself.

Veteran or in the field or not, to quote my favourite movie “oh picky picky picky!“

I wouldn’t say that the animation Is overreactive, as there’s a lot of subtle moments in the movie like in the scenes with the friends, And there definitely is substance there, even if it is a lot more subtle than what people are used to, but harkens back to the kind of subtlety that a lot of the earlier Disney animated movies had.

There is something to be said About the audience themselves, and not the actual movie itself then maybe just maybe is the one that has the problem. Just because you’re tired of something is not necessarily mean that it is bad. Because by that logic, and going with the logic that everyone is saying that Disney needs to change etc. then why oh why do we still live in a world where Leafy paper a.k.a. money still dictates and controls everything? I know that you know that there are problems with it, so why is no one fighting to change something with that but they always encourage changing everything else? Same with a lot of other things that more than certainly need to be changed even if they are what they are, because we truly live in a world where anything is possible, and especially with the mindset that you want things to change but not knowing how, then why are you just stating others to do that but you yourself are not going to stand up and do that? If you truly know better, then why don’t you just do it yourself? Fight for it? Do whatever you need to do even if it may be Frowned upon, because what do we have a right to anyways? What’s not illegal these days anyway? No matter what you do there’s always gonna be someone who’s not going to like it no matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem, so why are you bothering To put so many limits on yourself, let alone limits that are only put on you by others? Do you not think that maybe just maybe you are allowing yourself let alone other things to not truly change or grow? Like I always say, the main reason why people don’t like things because it reminds them about something about them that they don’t like no matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem. And it seems more than apparent that you’re taking out all of your anger on wish let alone all of Disney because you yourselves need to change and you don’t you don’t want to or know how, Again no matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem
