A storybook opening? Wow! We haven`t had one since Enchanted and we all know that it was meant to be a loving Disney spoof. Even Tangled was supposed to have one, until it didn`t...

Why exactly? It's an original story with fairytale elements, not based on a pre-existing material.

Should have opened with a little cartoon of Jennifer Lee watching that DVD boxset of Disney classics and picking which ones to reference.

Well shockingly despite the insider sources saying it was genuinely solid, it seems that Walt Disney Animation Studios’ #Wish is barely fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 63% rating based on 48 reviews so far, with many critics saying that while the villain’s great, the story comes off a bit too… derivative, which is kind of a weird complaint given that it’s supposed to be a way of honoring 100 years of Disney’s storytelling, but I guess #OnceUponAStudio did it better.

Oh well.

I’m not gonna cry about it.

At least I got #OnceUponAStudio to give me more hand-drawn animation back at Disney and the return of #WinnieThePooh with Jim Cummings back to voice him, which was my favorite part of that 9-minute short film.

And if #OnceUponAStudio does end up as the winner for Best Animated Short at next year’s Oscars, that may still give me hope that Iger’ll allow the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios Disney+ #ThePrincessAndTheFrog sequel series #Tiana to be hand-drawn animated, along with maybe allowing the two directors of #OnceUponAStudio, hand-drawn Disney animator Eric Goldberg, and Disney music legend Richard Sherman to work on #TheSearchForMickeyMouse with that film potentially going back into and/or restarting production so it can come out in Holiday 2028 for the 100th birthday of one #MickeyMouse.

Walt Disney taught us the one lesson which is that we have to move on from the past and just keep moving forward, a lesson that Lewis, the main character of #MeetTheRobinsons, had to learn by letting go of looking for his mom and finding his own family to save the future that he would eventually help create.

And that’s what I’m going to do.

“Keep Moving Forward.”

Rather than despair at the now likely failure of #Wish, I’m gonna enjoy it, savor it, then move on to ensure I put all my energy into making sure #OnceUponAStudio wins Best Animated Short at the Oscars so hand-drawn animation continues its slow but eventual comeback to Disney, starting w/ #Tiana next year & leading into #TheSearchForMickeyMouse in Q4 2028.

Hunger game got a 60 percent by critics and 91 percent by the audience. Marvles got a 62 percent by critics and 84 percents by audence. Fnaf got a 30 percent by critics and 87 percent by audience. I'm assuming that Wish will recieve a similar audience score when it comes out.

Most reviews are praising the visuals - if anything, there seems to be a growing campaign to bring back 2D.

Disney hasn't ever been the same since for me since they abandoned traditional animation. Given the advent of AI, when most studios will be looking to cut costs (and jobs), Disney could afford to take a creative risk and bring back the art form only possible with human hands.

I'll admit the reviews for "Wish" are a bit of a bummer — despite the lackluster teaser and bland songs, I was still holding out hope it would surprise me. I see the movie tomorrow and will keep an open mind, but even the positive reviews aren't exactly glowing.

If you look at Metacritic, the highest rating is 75/100. That's pretty bland.

So apparently Wish has an RT score of 58% right now when it started the day with 64%. Honestly, I’m still seeing it tomorrow, but that kind of score doesn’t come off as encouraging, especially for Disney standards.

Agreed. The review score is not promising. Then again, critical reaction doesn't seem to indicate financial success. Case in point: The Super Mario Bros Movie, which got mixed reviews, just like Wish did. It turned out to be a major smash hit. Elemental, same situation. It started off weak, then got better as it went along.

I can't say for sure how Wish is going to go, but all the talk of it flopping on BoxOffice Reddit is pretty mind-numbing. I also wasn't thrilled with the review score, so that lowers my expectations, too. Still, maybe I'll end up liking it just fine. It does look at least considerably different from Disney's usual style of CG animation, and close in tone to 2D animation, so that does have some appeal for me, but I won't be thrilled if this turns out to be another Ralph Wrecks The Internet. That film was the most embarrassing I had ever seen from Disney since Home on the Range, and I refused to see any more of their CG films on account of that. This one at least has more style to it, and luckily it doesn't seem to be a commercial for Disney disguised as a feature like Ralph was. So I can at least give credit for it.

This is going to be a massive flop sorry guys

Mario was a big IP and people didn't cared about the movie being awful, and Elemental got bad reviews at first by european critics not USA critics

The Wish reviews are the definitive ones, it's joever

The only thing we can hope is that audience enjoy the movie but it's unlikely because cmon the critics reviews are so bad, even worse than Strange World

I still think it will do well (at least $500 million). This is the kind of film Disney fans love, especially if they reference a different Disney movie every two minutes, fans love fan service. I expect it to receive A or A- CinemaScore and 85+ audience score on RT.

I expected the hunger games prequel to get a A- because post track number were really good but still got a B+

Wish isn't safe, but I hope it is, I'm so annoying for repeating the same all time but she's based in my country and I'm actually half north african too so I feel connected a little bit to her (but from what I've seen in trailers the movie is not very faithful to the Al Andalus, at least the clothes)

If it flops it can always become a hit in disney plus, Encanto was a massive flop theatrically

I mentioned The Lego Movie in an earlier post and I’m gonna mention it again. Seeing the increasingly poor critic reviews of Wish being posted online kind of reminds me of the scene in The Lego Movie when Bad Cop and his robot colleagues attack Cloud Cuckoo Land and it ends up on fire and falls into the sea in a genuinely sad montage. In this case, Bad Cop and his robot colleagues = critics and Cloud Cuckoo Land = Wish.

Elemental was not the same situation. It had stronger-than-expected legs given how weak it opened, but it still only grossed less than $500 million worldwide making it the #17 highest-grossing, theatrically-released Pixar film out of the 24. And that's not even taking inflation into account. I'm tired of Disney and Hollywood trying to gaslight us into believing that Elemental was a box office hit. It was not.

These reviews are horrible. This is the kind of movie WDAS used to churn out and knock out of the park quite easily. I thought Wish looked pretty good but the more I see of it the last two weeks the more it feels like Disney Jr. level quality. Like the movie was written by the marketing department. And the songs are not it.

That’s two duds back to back. I think Jennifer Lee is in over her head. She’s heading into her sixth year leading the studio and it feels like a ship with no captain. There’s no amount of double Frozen that will be able to fix this. They need new leadership.

I don't like the trend of copying Spiderverse, just make your style Disney

Anyways I wanna be positive but those bad reviews confirm my worse predictions

I’m so damn tired of seeing people knocking Wish’s animation style. It’s always “It looks half-finished, this” and “It doesn’t look fully rendered, that.”

Good grief, people are complete hypocrites. They praise Dreamworks and Sony to the high heavens when they do stylized CGI-animated films, but when Disney does it with Wish, they nitpick the hell out of it. And they wonder why Disney is “playing it safe” with sequels and remakes, which I’m kind of getting tired of only seeing from the company.

Genuinely, I hope that, despite what critics have to say about it, Wish ends up being a box office hit. Mainly because I want to see the naysayers eat their own words.

They aren't copying Spider-Verse. It doesn't look anything like it.

Elemental was not the same situation.
