When I was little, I was afraid of "Star Wars," therefore I was afraid of Stat Tours. But when I was around 9 and started to like the films, you couldn't keep me off this ride. I remember riding it three times in a row once on an uncrowded day. The best part to me isn't the ride itself, but the flight preparation video played before it. It is too funny. With all the space creatures that are frightened by flash photography and such. What a hoot! lol. I love jerky rides, so the secret is to sit in the back row. You get thrown around alot more and with a lot more force. It's nice.

Not to fond of simulators, as they typically become old shoes after a while. That's the case with ST. I loved it at first, and I still enjoy it, but if I had to pick a ride at Disneyland I would skip, it would probably be this one. In addition, it feels incredibly dated - something that it shouldn't be, especially in Tomorrowland (that's right, the ride is way more retro-80s than the OT)

When the ride was originally built, it was made so it could equip new movies to be shown on the simulators. Apparently, GL was interested in having new movies made for the attraction, incorperating new planets from the new SW films, but Eisner seems to want to keep their liscensing deal as-is. However, some have spotted a message on the big screen in the queue about "Soon, we won't only be flying to Endor", or something of the sort. So you never know, they may be working on something new for the ride.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan as other UD members, but I love Star Tours. I remember last summer when I went to Disneyland Paris and I went on this ride three times (I did that with many rides as hardly anyone was there in the parks for some reason). It was in French, but this actually helped me a bit as I'm currently studying French. If you go to a Disney park, try and find this ride and go on it!

Jack - I remember reading about that three or so years ago. George Lucas was incessed about the ride conditions and upkeep and how it wasnt moving forward. He threatened to pull all of his licences from Disney if it didnt get better. One of the major relationships Pressler and Harris managed to destroy along with Dole and many others. Although, I havent read anything I would imagine Ouimet and Rasulo have repaired the relationship as they did with Dole and allowed George to invent some new stuff. I hope so, like you I thought it was great in 1980 but its old hat now.

I am a huge Star Wars geek, so of course I like this ride. Not only is the ride exciting, but the queue and gift shop at the start and finish of the ride are two of the best in the park. I bought my Qui-Gon Jinn lightsaber at Disneyland, so the ride has some personal significance as well.

This is one that I will ride at least once whenever I go to a Disney park.

Being a huge Star Wars fan, I of course love Star Tours. Sure an update would be great since this is actually one of the first simulator rides of its kind. But, I still love it the way it is as well.

It also holds a personal connection for me since I always go on it during the Star Wars Disney Weekends at the MGM Studios. They are always a lot of fun. The line queue is great and really feels like its in the Star Wars universe. They should add Watto to the gift shop trying to sell you stuff, that would be cool!

Hmm. Star Tours is an okay thrill ride, a lot of shaking and cool video and stuff. But it's not a priority ride for me.

And for anyone who goes to Disneyland regularly, what was the predecessor to Star Tours like? You know, Adventures Thru Inner Space? I've read a lot about it and I wish I was able to go on that ride! It sounds rather boring to the average kid, though, but I'm always interested in the vintage Disney rides (such as the WDW Mr. Toad, Epcot's World of Motion and Horizons, etc.)

All these Disneyland ride threads are making me feel very nostalgic and slightly melancholy. :/

I always thought of Star Tours as a more boring Back to the Future ride. Not that I don't enjoy it or anything, because I ride it every single time I'm at Disneyland and I do like it immensely--but I don't remember ever having screamed for bloody murder on it when I was younger (as I did while riding BttF... and boy, did I scream bloody murder--I think I was bawling too). But it's a Disneyland ride so I guess it's to be expected.

I should ressurect the Space Mountain thread. I'd love to talk about my experience on that ride.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

when you exit star tours they used to have some cool posters like planet hoth and endor, and it seemed like they would add those simulations, but they never did. weak!

there are 3 star tours rooms, so why not have each one be a different simulation, or even better have it randonly select from a bunch. all it has to do is select the video and the pre-programmed motions that go with it.

Honestly, I've never been that big of a Star Tours fan. It's okay, but it is a bit jerky. I guess the best thing it has going for it is the Star Wars association, of course, but as a ride I could take it or leave it. I do think Back to the Future is a lot cooler, but maybe that's because I'm a bigger fan of those movies.

I had to sit down for a little while after I got off of this ride because it made me feel a little sick. My stomach does not do so good on rides like this.

Eh...I don't like or dislike the ride. I'm just not into Star Wars (the only film of the entire Star Wars series I've see was "A New Hope," and that was seven years ago.)

I'm not too fond of Star Tours anymore. I remember when it first opened and the line took hours! The first time a rode it I thought it was pretty good, but I must have been about 12 or 13 years old. When I was at DL last time "2001" I rode it again, 12 years later. It seemed pretty dated! Like riding inside a moving lunchbox with a movie screen. The effects didn't seem to work on me. I can't believe they haven't changed it yet?

Oh, I do remember Traveling Thru Inner Space. It was authentic Disney material. It gave you that Tomorrowland feeling that now somewhat lacks in the park today. You rode up a tube and shrunk down to a mirco. As you stood in line you could actually see people shrinking has they rode up the tube. I remember snow flakes and other elements circling around you has you rode through different rooms. That's all I can remember. I also miss Mission to Mars and the People Mover. Disneyland was the best during the 80's...

I love Star Wars, so naturally, Star Tours is a treat for me every time I visit MGM. I love Lucas' cameo at the end that no one ever seems to spot. I'm assuming the DL version is the same ride.

I think the que area for this ride might be my favorite. It starts on the outside with the laborate Star Wars display, including a giant AT-AT Walker that fires water. Inside, you can see the 'bots at work and here the sounds of Star Wars that really put you in the mood. I almost didn't mind waiting in line here when I was little. I never seen long lines on it anymore, though, so it's not an issue.

Maybe they should update it. It would still be the same ride, in essence. I also like the idea of randomizing it, either would give it a needed lift (and the classic would still be there). Come on Lucas- make Eisner do it! (Oy, the chances of a fan's dream when it depends on Lucas and Eisner, of all people  ).

At WDW, ST is often compared to Epcot's Body Wars. In my opinion, there's no comparison. ST is far superior in every way. It's really a well-done ride. It delivers thrills big enough to be fun but not so big that they make you sick (though TurdBizzler is always queasy when he gets off). 'Tis very well-done!

I think a Stat Tours would scare me even today, let alone when I was little! Statistics? Maybe at Epcot... :P

I first went on Star Tours at MGM Studios when I was in first grade (coincidentally the same year the park opened). I was very scared of the robots in the queue area, but my mom convinced me to stay in line and go on the ride by telling me that once we got inside, the robots would be gone. Too bad she didn't know that there was actually a robot on the ride. Needless to say, I hated every moment. Now, however, it pretty much rocks. :thumb:

Lucas has been wanting to have it updated, but your Eisner won't do it.

Well, now our Eisner is gone and Lucas can run wild and do what he does best (worst?): updating :P

Given that both my girlfriend and I share a love of Star Wars, going on Star Tours in the Disneyland Resort, CA was a no-brainer. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we went on it twice.

I have to admit that the in-flight droid (can't even remember its name) annoyed the proverbial out of me, but it was otherwise a fun ride. Although the wait can occasionally be a long one (that said, we pretty much walked straight in both times), the atmosphere created in the waiting area is pretty neat: R2 and C-3P0 greeting you; droids working on things; introductory videos that are a little tongue-in-cheek (I didn't notice any Wookies sitting next to me...).

The ride DOES jerk you around a fair bit, which is probably something that won't appeal to everyone. I actually think that the Star Trek: Klingon Encounter in the Las Vegas Hilton does this ride a little better, as it immerses you completely in the Star Trek universe - you are "beamed" aboard the Enterprise, taken to the bridge, down a turbolift before you even get to the simulator, which conveniently crashes back in Las Vegas and an actor dressed as a janitor escorts you out.

That said, it is very hard to top the sensation of the Death Star trench run :D

Naturally, I went and bought a Jedi Mickey afterwards, which is pretty much as cool as it gets :)

I searched for "Star Tours", so I guess there's no thread for Star Tours 2.0. Here's some info (there may be minor spoilers, including a picture on the SlashFilm website, so beware!):

Right now it seems like Disney is trying to partner with Oriental Land Company to help pay with the Star Tours 2.0 project, so it can be installed at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland at the same time. WDW opted out for the time being.
