Dude, I know where your coming from. My mom did that once, I mean they were my dvds but she insisted on keeping them in the family room. and let anybody touch them. I didn't talk to my mom for a whole month, then at night I put them in my room. She complained, But I am the one who buys my dvds, so she has no control over them. I believe in Yours, Mine and Ours, on many things. But when it comes to my movies, the answer is ixne.

I don't usually have a problem with my family touching my DVDs, since they don't do it. I am lucky because neither of my parents know how to work the DVD player, so when they want to watch a movie, I put it in and operate the remote for them. So not only am I the only one who touches my DVDs, I am the only one who touches a DVD in my house. But even though nobody messes with them, the shere thought of a plain DVD with no cover just lying around the house seriously makes me feel dirty, and I'm not joking.

Ditto to Paka for myself. My DVDs are pretty much borrow-able by just about anybody. There are a few exceptions (Wave 1 Treasures, for example) that I might only lend out to a select few, but for the most part as long as I know the person and I know they won't ruin them (and there have been times when I didn't even know them), I'll let them borrow them. For me, exposing other people to the movies I love is half the fun of movies to begin with, so I'm always up for that opportunity. Besides, a little sharing never hurt anyone.

I can understand where you're coming from, though. It is nice to be asked first (but for family I don't really care). And it really upsets me if they aren't cared for as well as I would care for them... that's just common courtesy. That's normally not too big a problem though.

I've already told the story here about my best friend's sister asking and asking me to lend her my brand-new copy of The Lion King 1 1/2, and I eventually caved in because I didn't want to seem rude.

Well, her three-year-old daughter got a hold of when she was told "no" after wanting to watch it again, ripping the clear plastic of the case, ripping the insert in two, and bending the case itself. So the DVD was left out of the case and got scratched all to hell. She never offered to replace it, so it's needless to say that they don't borrow my movies anymore. It's kinda funny that I sent it over without the slipcover; I guess I should have been happy that it had at least been saved.

I'll still lend out DVD's but only to certain people that I know will treat them with respect (and if they'll be kept of the reach of any kids).

I used to bring DVD's to work with me, and I'd let the kids look at the cases as long as they weren't bending them or throwing them around.

As for around here, the only people that really come into my house are my boyfriend and I, and he has a tendency to set my DVD's down on top of the TV without a case or put them in the wrong case altogether because he's either being impatient or lazy when he wants to watch something else. That irritates me to no end, but I guess I should learn to take a disc out of the player right away when I'm done watching it so it won't happen anymore.

Of course, there was the one time my landlord sent one of his helpers over to fix my ceiling fan, and he set his coffee cup right next to a row of my DVD's. . . and wouldn't ya know it, he knocked it over. Well, I rushed right over with paper towels and managed to dry off the inserts so they wouldn't get all nasty and stick to the plastic, but the packaging of my expensive Looney Tunes set sure paid the price, since the cardboard absorbed some of the coffee before I could get it off, permanently warping and staining it.

And people wonder why I don't like food or drinks in the living room.

Figured I'd reply again to this thread since it was resurrected.

Since I live in FL and nobody here has time to watch DVDs what with working our asses off to make sure guests get their precious overpriced bottles of water, my DVDs are pretty safe. They stay in three nice binders (100, 100, and 72), and sit in my locker. The new ones that don't fit in the binders are stacked in the locker as well. Back in NJ, all I have are the cases, and no one ever goes in my room anyway so I don't worry much about that.

BTW, just found out I have about 317 discs alone...so I might just buy that huge-ass binder of 320, then start from scratch for my other 3 binders (100, 100, and 72).

you could use also a normal plastic box to keep them hidden, and only have a list of the DVDs you have so if someone wants to see one he watch it on your home.
Or buy a DVD-burner and make a back-up, since you buyed the original stuff you could make a backup for lend it and if it happens something, your original is safe

One day I came home after hanging out with my friends and I was in a good mood. but hey guess what, I saw something that makes me want to explode! ':evil:'
I saw one of my most treasured and most expensive DVDs, The Beauty and The Beast (which I spend a lot of money on since it went out of print so I had to purchase it from Amazon at a big price), on top of the TV!!!!!!
This may sound insane but I hate when people touch my DVD's. When a person besides me touches them, thery're actually hurting me and really badly. -Th Slipcover was mssing and I then found it on my couch..... I was so angry, then i found out my sister touched it without my permission from my drawer and also my Godfather dvd collection.

Is anyone else obsessed with their Disney DVD's??? The only reason I get angry is because I only have one copy of each and they're very rare, so I take extreme care of them--and did I mention it had a scratch on it??? (':x')

You might be over-reacting a little. I don't ever have to worry about my parent's borrowing my Bambi DVD because it's in my room which, to my parent's is the 5th dimension to hell.

I would never lend my DVDs. They cost a lot of money. Plus, the conditions of the DVDs in the library is always horrible.

If my mum wants to watch a DVD, she asks me to put it on for her.

As far as lending though, I only lend to people who will look after my property (other family member)
