Who misses the traditional Disney logo in the movies?
After seeing Pixar's rendition; I truly think they should go back and thouch it up. Obviously the picture provided is somewhat enlarged, but I think the castle could use some more detailing. Pixar could put shingles on the roofs, give the castle more texture overall (even match the colours to the new repainting of SB's Castle for Disneyland's 50th Anniversary), some re-lighting and re-rendering.
I really enjoy the personalized logos used on many of the newer films, but I think the original should still be used. The "When you wish upon a star" tune does imply that same sense of excitement I get from the "FOX/Lucasfilm" drumroll before Star Wars. Perhaps they could always have the original before the movie starts, and then just use the personalized ones during the actual starting credits. Then you get both of best worlds. The personalized logos really jsut put you more into the film, like say in Tarzan, then the original would; but I think the original is justifiable enough to be including as well as it gives you the "Disney" rush of memories.

That's what I said. Fox does this. They use their traditional logo with the music and AFTER that they change it so it fits the theme of the movie.I really enjoy the personalized logos used on many of the newer films, but I think the original should still be used. Ya, I know, I read your post. I just meant for theatrical presentaion as well, not just for Home Video. But, considering we will be seeing the logo in Disney's 3D next year, shouldn't we be thinking about the future a bit more; seeing as how 2D will be limited to DTV and TV.Evil Genie Jafar wrote:That's what I said. Something I want to add to the argument/discussion about which princess owns the castle on the logo: Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland was built before the film Sleeping Beauty was even released. Therefore, Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle (which I believe is what is used on the opening logo) is a structure all its own. It is more Walt Disney's castle than a replica of something from a film.

I think Disney will continue using their traditional blue-castle logo even for the 3D films. At least that is the one they used for the "Chicken Little" trailer (which took me by surprise, since I was expecting the CG logo used in Pixar films).yoda_four wrote:Ya, I know, I read your post. They actually called the castle Sleeping Beauty's as Disneyland was built during the making of that film, and Walt thought that a castle for the movie would be a good way of wetting people's appetite for the movie. That castle in the credits is the castle for Sleeping Beauty.pinkrenata wrote:Something I want to add to the argument/discussion about which princess owns the castle on the logo: Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland was built before the film Sleeping Beauty was even released. Logos
I miss the origional logo that was on all of the old White Puffy Clamshell Releases from the 80s. Where they had a groovy Mickey that was turning around and changing colors. Then when he would stop turning and Walt Disney Home Video in the Walt Disney Font would appear then the movie would start, and you would see the Buena Vista Entertainment scene come up then the movie would start. Aye those were the good old days.

I too loved that logo that was used at the beginning of the first Disney Home Videos, Disney Guru. It was also used at the beginning of some of their Super 8 Home movies in the 80's. Great music went along with it as well. That rotating Mickey silhouette in all those colors against the black background was awesome. It looks like it's the Mickey from Fantasyland's "Mickey Mouse Revue".

Old Logo
I have a bout 55 of the Old White Clamshell Releases left I used to have over 150. I am going to keep the few I have left. But I have always loved that opening. And as you said the music in the background was also really cool.

I've got a ton of old videotapes at home that have that opening logo. Fond memories indeed.
Afterwards, Disney did a new one around the mid-90's that had a big Mickey head with "When You Wish Upon A Star" playing, and then "Disney Videos" would appear. Then in the 2000's they did another one with simply a blue background with stars and "Walt Disney Home Entertainment" flashing on the screen. But the old one is still the best.
