Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Thank God. I would have zero interest in this otherwise especially after the overall blah casting choices. I mean, I'm sure they'll be okay, but weird to think we could've had a version with Sabrina Carpenter as Rapunzel, and Cher or a more youthful/pretty take with the unknown actress as Gothel instead. Sort of the reverse situation here of TLM, where we at least got the best of the poor options on the table (Bailey/McCarthy); I still have nightmares about the Zendaya-Gaga version that almost was.
Both the actors for Flynn and Gothel here seemed more like they were simply slotted in because they worked with Disney before.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
That's a useful reference, and if he's talking about a "film version," then it's very likely that he means the live-action remake and not just like a Disney+ LEGO special.veu wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 1:12 pm Menken is working on it. He said that in a recent interview (February 7, 2026) in Ireland.
Here the video interview (minute 9:14):

Here what Menken said:
"Right now, we're working on both two version of Tangled. One is a stage version, one is a film version, which is wonderful. And you know, it's crazy making because... what new am I going to add? How do I not undermine what was there before? And how do I give the new people I'm working with? And I bless them for being involved. It's an encouragement to bring something new to it at the same time".
Even so, until we get an official press statement, a part of me will worry that he won't carry over to the film and that he's just working as like a consultant or something. A thin chance, perhaps, but not out of the question.
And Menken is a hard line for me. If he's involved, there's a solid chance I'll see it in the theaters. If he isn't, then it's a hard no.

Here another interview to Menken in which he confirmed to work on this movie:

Alan Menken said:
“we’re now working on the Tangled movie and the director is a man named Michael Gracey and he directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man. Did any of you see either of those? Okay. He has such muscle in the way. So, I know we’re going, I’m going to adapt to what Michael how he’d like to stage the numbers and part of i twill be, you know, the arrangers I bring in to work on it. So, I’m totally open to that and enthusiastic about that”.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Again, very reassuring.
I think the next question is ... who is Menken collaborating with? Is the remake carrying over Glenn Slater as well? Or does Gracey want to work with Pasek & Paul again, especially since Menken has collaborated with them in the past?
I'll be honest, P&P are slightly higher in my personal ranking, but at the same time, it'd be a little tactless to just drop Slater when he's been involved in the Tangled property for ... basically everything.
Do we have any word on who his partner will be?

I'm very excited about this one. The casting so far is perfect.

If it's not baroque, don't fix it.

Source: https://x.com/TangledUpdates/status/2037406054770962683The live action Tangled may have found its cinematographer. Director Michael Gracey and producer Lucy Kitada have followed cinematographer Alice Brooks on instagram. Alice has followed Michael too. Alice Brooks was the cinematographer on Wicked and In the Heights.
Source: https://x.com/TangledUpdates/status/2044415450206130387Erik Wilson has joined the crew of the live action 'Tangled' as the cinematographer. He previously worked on the 'Paddington' films as well as 'Better Man'. Alice Brooks ('Wicked') was previously rumored to take the role but that was untrue.
Source: https://x.com/TangledUpdates/status/2040239316052365391Have we found our choreographer? Some members of the cast and crew of the live action Tangled film have followed choreographer Ashley Wallen. Movies he has previously worked on include Moulin Rouge and Better Man, a movie directed by our director Micheal Gracey.
Source: https://x.com/TangledUpdates/status/2037349679743320380Tangled's director Michael Gracey and producer Lucy Kitada have both followed costume designer Sandy Powell on Instagram. There's a possibility she is costume designer for the live action Tangled. She was previously the costume designer on Cinderella and Snow White.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Source: https://www.todoalicante.es/alicante-pr ... t_amp.htmlDisney will land in Alicante and the Ciudad de la Luz studios to shoot, over the next eight months, its newest live-action film, Tangled.
It was this Friday when President Juanfran Pérez Llorca announced that the Generalitat and Disney have reached an agreement to bring this international blockbuster to the province of Alicante. "It is going to be filmed in several locations", both in the province and in the Community, the head of the Consell has explained. The president of the Generalitat celebrated that "the American multinational company has chosen our territory as the coordination center for this production". Pérez Llorca has assured that the project "will give a strategic boost to the Valencian audiovisual sector and will generate a significant economic and social impact for our territory".
"I'm excited to shoot in Spain, which provides the perfect creative setting to bring the story of Tangled to life," said director Michael Gracey.
Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Disappointing. The cinematography for both Wicked and In the Heights was terrible.
I hope the costumes are like Cinderella's and not Snow White's.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
If I may ask, do you think the cinematography is one of the many reasons why wicked sucks? Because one of the many reasons why it does for me is because it made the CGI especially for 2024 look so atrocious! I’m hoping it’s just a universal thing, because that’s the exact same thing happened with their 2003 Peter Pan, and we’ve seen cinematographers have different lighting for different movies, and hopefully with them being more colourful with snow white, and with a new CEO, let’s pray that this hopefully means that it will at least look good. I believe she’s also doing some live action work for beyond the spider verse, so maybe she might be inspired to do some very interesting cinematography work here

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I thought Wicked was mostly pretty and I loved the majority of the costumes from SW (really just the Bandits that were terrible) and a few from Cinderella (really just the Prince, Fairy Godmother, and the stepmother's emerald dress from the climax). No real fear she messes up here since there's nothing in the original film that's stunning like 1950 Cinderella's ballgown that she'll have to re-create in sone fashion. In fact, there's nowhere to go but up with this one.
I still hope they give Rapunzel an outfit like the one in Into the Woods (the film)--similar colors to the animated film so it won't be a change tgat's offputting to tge audience, but looks gorgeous instead of hideous. And they could look at designs from the animated series for Rapunzel and Eugene that were worlds above the film for inspiration, too. Not sure what they could do about Gothel though.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Sandy Powell’s doing the costumes?!! Yay! Now, yes, I was extremely disappointed with Snow White’s costumes, but I think I know the problem there. She said herself Snow White was so iconic she couldn’t deviate from the original design too much. That’s why her hair was short after all. Now, I don’t know if Disney made her be that faithful to the original, but she said they let her alone for Cinderella. I think Disney letting her alone, coupled with the fact Cinderella has been seen in thousands of variations all over the world for years, allowed her to be familiar but different for Cinderella, and I think Cinderella is one of the best costumed films I have seen. I think because Tangled is not as iconic as either Snow White or Cinderella, she’ll have more freedom. But she has a task ahead of her- what time period to base the costumes on?! And just one time period or mixes of others? Because the Tangled directors said the film is set in the 18th century, but Rapunzel, Flynn, and the King and Queen’s costumes are from the 16th century, and Gothel’s are from the 14th or maybe even 13th century, I believe! Plus there is some 19th century stuff like the royal guards’ costumes!
