Thank God. I would have zero interest in this otherwise especially after the overall blah casting choices. I mean, I'm sure they'll be okay, but weird to think we could've had a version with Sabrina Carpenter as Rapunzel, and Cher or a more youthful/pretty take with the unknown actress as Gothel instead. Sort of the reverse situation here of TLM, where we at least got the best of the poor options on the table (Bailey/McCarthy); I still have nightmares about the Zendaya-Gaga version that almost was.

Both the actors for Flynn and Gothel here seemed more like they were simply slotted in because they worked with Disney before.

Here the video interview (minute 9:14):

Here what Menken said:

"Right now, we're working on both two version of Tangled. One is a stage version, one is a film version, which is wonderful. And you know, it's crazy making because... what new am I going to add? How do I not undermine what was there before? And how do I give the new people I'm working with? And I bless them for being involved. It's an encouragement to bring something new to it at the same time".
That's a useful reference, and if he's talking about a "film version," then it's very likely that he means the live-action remake and not just like a Disney+ LEGO special.

Even so, until we get an official press statement, a part of me will worry that he won't carry over to the film and that he's just working as like a consultant or something. A thin chance, perhaps, but not out of the question.

And Menken is a hard line for me. If he's involved, there's a solid chance I'll see it in the theaters. If he isn't, then it's a hard no.

Here another interview to Menken in which he confirmed to work on this movie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJi9GOaAZCI

Minute 43:12:
Alan Menken said:
we’re now working on the Tangled movie and the director is a man named Michael Gracey and he directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man. Did any of you see either of those? Okay. He has such muscle in the way. So, I know we’re going, I’m going to adapt to what Michael how he’d like to stage the numbers and part of i twill be, you know, the arrangers I bring in to work on it. So, I’m totally open to that and enthusiastic about that”.

Again, very reassuring.

I think the next question is ... who is Menken collaborating with? Is the remake carrying over Glenn Slater as well? Or does Gracey want to work with Pasek & Paul again, especially since Menken has collaborated with them in the past?

I'll be honest, P&P are slightly higher in my personal ranking, but at the same time, it'd be a little tactless to just drop Slater when he's been involved in the Tangled property for ... basically everything.

Do we have any word on who his partner will be?

I'm very excited about this one. The casting so far is perfect.
