I'll be honest, I actually kind of feel like the hate toward Zegler has spiraled out of control by this point. Like, the dialogue has just become so ugly and mean that it's not even satisfying to me to see the movie eviscerated the way that it is.
Her comments are Grade A annoying, absolutely, but she is NOT the only person who feels this way about fairy-tales. She is not the only person at Disney who feels this way about fairy-tales. She is not the only person involved in the remakes who feels this way about fairy-tales. Emma Watson was in a better position because she wasn't shading the specific princess she was portraying, but it's obvious she feels the same way about the Disney Princess brand, and she was never in danger of getting roasted the way that Zegler is. It's just weird to me that Zegler is being made to answer for decades of anti-princess rhetoric that started before she was even born.
Anyways, you just know that when the backlash gets addressed during the promotion of the movie, both Disney and the larger press are just going to discuss the entire thing like Disney fans were just angry at the remake because they can't stand feminism. Like ... no one is going to win in this game.
