When do you guys think the next trailer will come out? Some say it will come out when Haunted Mansion is released and they will play the trailer in theater.

You talking about her hairstyle is just antiblack, and she's not african american,

I think the full trailer is coming this week, maybe even tomorrow, the Marvels trailer came out by surprise without any promo

To me it just looks like a fantasy version of Spain in the same way that Raya was a fantasy version of south east Asia.

Some Spanish vibes, some Moroccan and/or North African vibes. Designed to offend nobody and therefore bound to offend everyone for some reason.

The culture war is exhausting but it must rage on, I guess.

The kingdom of Rosas is not like Kumandra from Raya, that was a mix of many many SEA countries with totally different cultures (that felt lazy)

Rosas is based in Spain, more exactly in the Al Andalus period, that culture is real, its not fake for the movie, of course it has moroccan vibes, they colonized Spain for 800 years.

It's like saying that Encanto has Spaniard vibes, of course it has, colombian culture is deeply based in spanish culture from the colonization😭💀

Yeah except Colombia is real? I don’t get that comparison.

I still think it boils down to the same thing. Sure Wish appears to be more specific in terms of the cultures/ time period it is referencing than Raya or example, but it’s still a big mix. The Iberian peninsula has been home to many kingdoms, cultures and peoples. It’s so abstract you can see in it whatever you want.

For me that’s fine. But apparently nothing can exist out of the realm of this woke debate. That’s all I’m saying. I just see a cute, albeit lazily designed, princess. Others refer to her as African American because black = woke.

Whatever man.

In 4 months the movie will be released and they haven't released their first trailer yet. I'm sure it will be released when Haunted Mansion is, but if it doesn't then I'm gonna to be really worried here. They did little to no marketing for Strange World and did bad marketing for Elemental. I know they are releasing merchandise for the movie, but it seems that a lot of people aren't aware that this movie even exist and some says that the teaser didn't make them interested in the movie saying that the animation looks like a ps2 game.

Since it's their 100th anniversary movie, I'm sure that they want to do a lot of marketing, but with the actor strike, I'm not sure if they can do that anymore. I really hope this movie doesn't bomb in box office because this is the only recent Disney movie that catches my interest. I really like the vibes of the movie and I hope that they can make more of it, but if the movie fails in box office, they will have to make more sequels to make up for the lost money.

The kingdom of rosas is an island next to the iberian peninsula (basically a fake Mallorca or whatever) Kumandra wasn't set in our planet or reality.

Instead of doing the movie in the iberian peninsula they did it in a fake island nation because this way they don't have to deal with the politics of the al andalus (a very difficult time period)

In Spain black people are not as common as people from south América and people from Moroc. You said that Asha's hair is common in Spain and that's a lie. You can find people with this hairstyle? Yes but it's not usual. Asha doesn't represent spanish culture because she doesn't have anything that is inspired in spanish's traditions.
It's ok if you love the character but please don't say that she looks spaniard when she doesn't.
She looks more like a Barbie fashionista than an ficitional historical character.

Asha's hairstyle reminds me of these:

Albeit it's longer, and I know her braids on her left side aren't cut but are taken to the back, it seems to me that this is sort of the effect they were aiming for.

I agree with that. Asha's hair is very actual while her mother's hair is historical accurate and looks more like an European style

I guess the trend has to do with the particular hairstyle becoming associated with feminist, empowered female characters or messaging. I agree that it's being overused in animation. Giving braids to Black female characters is also overused, in my opinion. It's like these characters are not allowed to have any other type of hairstyle anymore because that would not be considered "authentic" or "Black" enough.

Girl... I knew Asha would be iberian since the D23 announcement in September of 2022, her clothes are very local, she even wears a mantillo in a 2D drawing showed in the last page of this forum.

I never said braids are typical from spain, they're typical from black people around the world, that includes spain, a country with black history you like it or not (literally Guinea Ecuatorial and the Western Sahara were part of Spain until 1970)

And even if braids are not "typical" of Spain they made her caracolillos that are common in flamenco culture, yes in African American culture they are called "baby hairs" but it is documented that they were created many many years before in Spain, so her baby hairs are spanish culture.

Saying she looks like a Barbie Fashionista is ANTIBLACK, braids and other protective afro hair styles are not NEW things, they exist since the beggining of afro-texture hair, they exist to protect their hair apart from cultural legacy.

First of all I'm not a girl so don't calle me like that.
Saying that this character looks like a Barbie fashionista is not antiblack so I'm not going to let you say this about me. She looks like a Barbie because she doesn't look like a historical character. She looks like a modern character with a random clothes, like a Barbie doll from the dreamtopia line.
The second part is that Asha is not wearing a mantón de Manila or a Mantillo as you said. What she's wearing is a simple shawl. A Mantillo has a different shape and has long fringes.
She also doesn't have babyhair. The hair that you see on her os the one that is growing new. It doesn't have anything to do with the typical hair that people wear when they dress Up with Gitana's or flamenco's gown. You can search in Google photos about this hairsyle by yourself and see that It doesn't have anything in common with Asha.
About the clothes she doesn't wear anything typical from here.
I'm not going to discuss more with you about It because It seems that you don't know anything about spanish culture even when you say that you are spanish.
Asha is a new black character and they get inspired in spain when they created her country but this princess doesn't represent anything from the spanish culture or their people so please, don't deffend what can not be deffended

You're 29 but you behave like a 12 yo.

Girl the same way as "bro" is used as a gender neutral thing in social media, I'm non binary myself so I wasn't missgendering you.

Asha has baby hairs, you can see that in the 2D drawings of her, she wears them very flamenco style in the book cover.

Her mantillo looks spanish to me and her clothes look culturally correct for that time period, you just want to hate the fact that Disney made the spanish princess half black.

The Iberian peninsula in all time periods has had black people, it is well documented, its not a fairy tale that black people existed before the 90s like you and many people tend to believe.

---------

Anyways where do you guys think that trailer will come out? It has to be this week, what other movie is coming out they can do it? Blue Beetle I doubt since it's totally different target audiences

Edit:

In this artwork her baby hairs look very "caracolillo" from flamenco style

If you start watching a "Princess" movie once a week starting this week, then you should finish a week before Wish premieres. I might try to do this but I don't think I can sit through Brave, Frozen, Frozen II, Raya and The Last Dragon and Encanto again.

I wouldn't call anybody any -ism if they don't express that type of opression, the user above is openly angry that the spaniard princess is half black.

Spain is having a big number of people voting the fascist party Vox, so far right movements are very high and "popular" in the country right now sadly, back in April a lot of spaniards talked about Asha being a "immigrant" because she wasn't white and didn't looked spanish
