Sorry if I forgot your favorite, but there's a bazillion to choose from. Also, I would have included "The Phantom of the Opera" (1986/2004), but it's not out yet, so no one knows if it's good or not!

I saw a test screening for it and it was amazing. Sometimes having insider friends pays off. But on that list I'm gonna hafta vote for Chicago.

AND ALL THAT JAZZ!

Grease, for sure! Although, if Phantom of the Opera was on the list, I'd probably vote for that. Chicago and Evita are close seconds, though.

Cool thread idea! I SHOULD have voted for Sound of Music, as that's a good one and has a personal connection for me. But I voted for Little Shop of Horrors. I don't know. It seemed like the cool thing to do at the time. :shifty:

This is an evil poll because Chicago, Grease, and Jesus Christ Superstar are among my all time favorite films. I decided to go with JCS because I know Chicago and Grease will get many votes (Chicago's actually my favorite on the poll).

I voted for Chicago, which really isn't fair as I've never seen it on stage. That being said, however, it is my favorite of all the movie musicals listed, with Evita coming close in second. Unfortunately, as far as the older movies go, I've only seen a handful of the stage versions, and only mediocre community theatre performances at that.

A few that are worth adding:

The Music Man
Annie
Carousel ...

and a whole bunch more I'm forgetting! :tink:

The Sound of Music second runner up would be Grease.

Grease out of that lot.

I love everything about it except the ending (c'mon, a flying car?).

I think you all know my feelings on The Sound of Music, and I think Chicago was a poor adaptation because it didn't really do anything on screen that you couldn't do on stage (as opposed to Moulin Rouge, which doesn't qualify here).

I voted for Chicago, although I think someone left Oliver off the list, which beats out Chicago for me.

Also, why is Grease so popular? It's okay, but too many say it has a heart. How anyone can call Rizzo a lovable character gives me sleepless nights....

LSOH all the way baby! It's sixties-tastic (actually it may have more of a late-fifties vibe, but that spoils my synergy with my Film>Musical reply).

It also has playful lyrics!

Did you know that Little Shop of Horrors was penned by none other than Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who went on to Disney fame with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast? I'm sure you guys knew that.

YAY!!! You have GREAT taste. In the absence of Meredith Willson's The Music Man, I voted The Sound of Music.

Very tough choices. I haven't seen any of them on stage, but I vote for The Sound Of Music.

My favorites from the list are "Hair", "The Sound of Music", and "West Side Story". One of my other favorite Broadway to film titles is the movie of "Hello, Dolly!". It's an amazing looking film and a lot of fun.
