Favorite Broadway-Musical-Turned-Film
Sorry if I forgot your favorite, but there's a bazillion to choose from. Also, I would have included "The Phantom of the Opera" (1986/2004), but it's not out yet, so no one knows if it's good or not!

I voted for Chicago, which really isn't fair as I've never seen it on stage. That being said, however, it is my favorite of all the movie musicals listed, with Evita coming close in second. Unfortunately, as far as the older movies go, I've only seen a handful of the stage versions, and only mediocre community theatre performances at that.
A few that are worth adding:
The Music Man
Annie
Carousel ...
and a whole bunch more I'm forgetting!

Grease out of that lot.
I love everything about it except the ending (c'mon, a flying car?).
I think you all know my feelings on The Sound of Music, and I think Chicago was a poor adaptation because it didn't really do anything on screen that you couldn't do on stage (as opposed to Moulin Rouge, which doesn't qualify here).

LSOH all the way baby! It's sixties-tastic (actually it may have more of a late-fifties vibe, but that spoils my synergy with my Film>Musical reply).
It also has playful lyrics!

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
YAY!!! You have GREAT taste. In the absence of Meredith Willson's The Music Man, I voted The Sound of Music.pinkrenata wrote:I voted for Chicago, which really isn't fair as I've never seen it on stage. Very tough choices. I haven't seen any of them on stage, but I vote for The Sound Of Music.

My favorites from the list are "Hair", "The Sound of Music", and "West Side Story". One of my other favorite Broadway to film titles is the movie of "Hello, Dolly!". It's an amazing looking film and a lot of fun.
"She sailed out of the Disney-blue heavens, umbrella in hand, and promptly elicited every gorgeous adjective in the book from reviewers coast to coast."
