Re: Wish
I agree with others that the villain's name is a little dumb the more I use it / read it since it's an adjective, but they're probably hoping it'll just pass by dumb Americans who don't know much Spanish and sound the same as Valentino's nane as far as ending in an o sound. Disney has always presented culture and/or foreign language / accents in a very McDonald's fashion.

I think the result is nice. There is something to be impressed by. I know how to value ArtWork. For those who don't delve deeper it can be confusing. This is a previously tried effect - Drawing "pencil lines" that is put on the 3D figures. It is not 2D animation that leads the movement of the uniqueness of the animation in the characters (like the classic Disney films) it is an attempt to remind their heritage. The "Treasure Planet" was an example of the best combination of 2 types of animation 2D+3D - almost perfectly! The 3D did not take over and took the focus of the 2D. They worked together - but separately. That's what was unique and special back then! For me the magic of Disney is in traditional animation. This has been their heritage and uniqueness for many years. This experience doesn't really replace the feel of traditional animation. Because there is no substitute for it. It's like comparing water and fire. The hand touch of an artist who paints - you can't fake it. I still want to hope that Disney will return to their traditional animation identity and realize how unique they were in a world without much competition.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they used that style to cover the fact that they didn’t have enough time to make the movie. I mean, they started the movie in January of 2022, it’s been just a little over a year.
Re: Wish
Here's the full video of Ariana DeBose on Good Morning America. She only talks about the movie at the beginning. She stressed her character is a new Disney heroine, perhaps to debunk the rumors that she could be a Disney Princess. This is what she said:
I voice Asha. She's a new Disney heroine. She is her own hero. She's a quick-witted idealist and she takes a stand against the ruler of Rosas in order to save her community. And the ruler of Rosas is King Magnifico, who is voiced by the great Chris Pine.

Oy vey. I guess now we can't even have princesses anymore. At least this film looks good, but that's kind of a bonkers thing for Disney to start lasering in on for their future considering a castle is their main image and princess films are what they're best-known for, hands down.

Thanks for the high-res versions!
That's a good catch by Prince Kido! I don't think I would've noticed that! I bet he's right. The Bashful reference is not totally clear to me, but there are too many parallels in general to be a coincidence, including some of the same color schemes. I don't know how I feel about it, though. If they're going to have the same personalities, it seems more like copying than an homage.
I guess they're indeed Asha's friends and not just background characters, as they appear in action in another scene:

I wonder what they're doing there. Is it a heist to steal the bubbles that contain people's wishes?
I bet Prince Kido is also right the woman on the right is Asha's mom. Especially, given that she's holding Valentino in her arms. Maybe it's true Asha only has a mother since her father doesn't seem to appear in the image. And who's the old man next to her? Could he be Asha's grandfather?

I thought I possibly could enjoy this until I saw DeBose’s “new kind of heroine”/anti princess interview.

Here’s the interview that Ariana DeBose did this morning on Good Morning America on ABC, the one that I think CarolinaKid is referring to: https://youtu.be/S6ogsKjnybE.
Now all of you watch it and you tell me if you agree with CarolinaKid’s feelings or if you think he’s not entirely true since I don’t remember Ariana saying Asha is anti-princess, only that she’s her own character, a new type of heroine, and a firy, spirited, independent character.

Disney fans waste no time in spotting easter egss! While some of these are obviously a stretch and it's way too soon to actually know if any of them are actual references, it's still a fun little video to see:

I keep re-watching because it looks so good! Asha is just gorgeous. There are two shots near the end that are especially nice, I wish I was able to screen grab like other people. One shot is of Asha sort of in the center of the frame with Valentino on her shoulder and a ball of light behind her. The other is almost the last shot of her (from a side profile); the details to the hair are so fine, it looks very, very pretty.

Re: Wish
True. As much as I love the Renaissance, it became a worn-out trope to have a single father with a Princess/heroine (too bad they didn`t broke that staple with Pocahontas, as Michael Eisner actually wanted to give her a mother. As her mother is referenced in more ways than one and it`s stated that Pocahontas actually knew her). Despite how Hunchback and Hercules surprisingly enough broke that staple and didn`t have any parent for their heroines (but Mulan and Tarzan introduced the trope back, despite how Mulan had a mother as well). You`ve right about Tiana, but her father is still more pivotal to her story than her mother. In fact, The Princess and the Frog has a lot in common with Quest for Camelot in that regard: To have a heroine with a mother, but having her relationship to her father being the crucial relationship.D82 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 7:39 pmThat would be interesting. It would be the opposite of what used to happen in the '90s. If I'm not mistaken, it would be the first time a female Disney protagonist only has a mother. Well, Tiana is the closest example of that, but both of her parents are alive at the beginning of the movie.DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 3:19 pm As for Asha having a mother, I`m glad that she`s going to have one (due to the previous scrutiny of Disney Princesses lacking mothers). But I`ll wonder if Asha is going to have a single parent, as opposed to two parents (as both Rapunzel and Moana had both parents alive).
You know what? The same thing struck me as well! That she could`ve been Asha`s mother. But at least it would break the Revival trope of having a young and slim mother.
Sorry to nitpick, but those shots are more references than actual Easter Eggs. But sure, we know how Disney fanboys can be (*cough, Frozen theory, cough*) and make references out of scenes which they consider to be references.
Something that I`ve wondered about watching the teaser again: I wonder who`s the mysterious rider with the horse at the end of the trailer. Her mysterious love interest?

I think the rider at the end is actually King Magnifico, you can see the design on the shoulders of the cape and it matches with other shots of the king in the trailer! The horse design reminded me a bit of Maximus from that angle...DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 4:26 pm Something that I`ve wondered about watching the teaser again: I wonder who`s the mysterious rider with the horse at the end of the trailer. Re: Wish
Thanks for posting! It was indeed a fun little video. I think some of them are definitely references and that fan got them right like the Belle one with the dandelion or the Pocahontas one with the butterflies. And I believe the first shot may actually be a tribute to the similar one in Pinocchio. Star bringing those flowers to life reminds me more of Fantasia, as does the teaser poster and the logo. And there are other things that make me think of Snow White apart from the well, like some of the columns or the scientific/magical instruments the villain has in his palace, which are similar to the ones the Evil Queen has.Mooky wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:57 pm Disney fans waste no time in spotting easter egss! I wonder if the references to past Disney movies will be mainly like these ones instead of cameos. I don't know if I like this either, though. In my opinion, it suits more a movie like Enchanted than this one. I would've preferred they just focused on making a good movie to celebrate the 100th anniversary instead of details like this. Or that they had made it totally in hand-drawn animation. Anyway, it can be good and also have Easter eggs or cameos. I hope that's the case.
Is the first you mention the one below? As for the second, I think it was posted by Woodrow Pride here.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 4:00 pm I keep re-watching because it looks so good! Well, in the case of Esmeralda and Megara I think it's not strange their parents aren't shown since they aren't the main characters. It doesn't necessarily mean they're orphan. We don't know anything about the parents of male characters who aren't protagonists like John Smith or Phoebus either. But I agree about everything else you said.DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 4:26 pm True. Yes, she looks a bit different than other recent mothers. It's also interesting she's dressed in purple like her daughter.DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 4:26 pm You know what? Yes, it's definitely King Magnifico. I wonder if he's discovering Asha has a magical star in that shot.

^You're welcome.
By the way, I've just noticed a Disney animator called Taylor Gessler retweeted Prince Kido's discovery, which might be a confirmation he was right about the seven dwarfs reference.

True, but remember that Jasmine wasn`t the main character in her movie either. Re: Wish
The movie will have the subtitle "Asha and the Lucky Star" in France.
Yes, it's true they count if we're talking about Disney heroines in general, not just the ones that are lead characters in their movies. I was just saying that I don't find it that surprising these two weren't given parents since the story doesn't center mainly around them. In the case of Jasmine, though, her being the Sultan's daughter is an important element in the movie.DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:22 pm True, but remember that Jasmine wasn`t the main character in her movie either. Re: Wish
You know what?
I just wanna say something quickly.
I really hope Walt Disney Animation Studios succeeds in launching an animated film w/ a new animation style that hits at the box office with #Wish. I already see people whine & bitch about “TV animation,” “filtered #Frozen,” and “AI-animated.”
I find these very insulting to the animators workin’ their life, heart, sweat, blood, tears, and asses off to make #Wish the movie that #Tangled would have been if it had not been for disgraced monster John Lassetter.
It’s not their fault that John Lassetter ruling over Walt Disney Animation Studios before the #MeToo movement forced him out is why it took so long for Disney to make a movie with the Hyperion software, the same software that was used on Disney’s Oscar-winning animated short that inspired #Wish’s animation style in #Paperman.
All these various complaints & crap are why Disney may continue being more hesitant to take creative risks and might fire Jennifer Lee (the one and only person at Walt Disney Animation Studios tryin’ to get hand draw animated future stories back on the big screen and on #DisneyPlus for you guys) from her job as she’s tryin’ to help move Disney Animation away from the Lassetter era. And I can’t have that happening as the future #Tiana series being hand-drawn depends on Lee (and Disney legend Eric Goldberg too).
So, if I may give some stern words of warning, quit complaining and passing judgement so pre-emptively, put your money where your mouth is, and believe in this film to be something unique & special for Disney to do for their centennial 100th Anniversary (#Disney100) celebration (since they’re already proving they’re going back to special stories by way of returning to a traditional, non-third-act-plot-twist Disney villain in Chris Pine as King Magnifico), and get back to work or you’ll realize what happens when your failures keep causing more things you don’t wanna see happen since, as I always tell you, #ActionsHaveConsequences.
Or to quote Benson from Cartoon Network’s Regular Show when he gets angry at Mordecai & Rigby, ”get back to work or YOU’RE FIRED.”
