Where'd u find this pic?

Also, it looks like with his eyes and the fact that he has a frowny mouth on the book cover that this may be the one character that translates well to Disney live-action with emotions and not emotionless expressions like in The Lion King.

No one ever said Sebastian was cute, not even in the original animated movie.

The original character had tremendous appeal. This one does not.

Ehhh, did he really though? I mean Flounder probably did. But not Sebastian.

I can’t blame Chef Louis for wanting to boil this one. And Maryland Crab Soup is a favorite of mine.

The puzzle where the new look at Sebastian comes from also offers us a better look at Scuttle in drawing form:

This is the puzzle:

Well, it's true he has some expression on that cover. He looks a little bit better than I thought he would after seeing the previous images of him.

Yeah, it's a big downgrade, though I think it was to be expected.

I agree, what she said about respecting people if they don't like her version of the character didn't sound egotistical to me, but quite the opposite. She seemed humble in the other interviews with her I've seen or read too.

It was really cool for them to make Ariel a version of me with my locs. I feel like that’s what mermaid hair would be anyway.
I thought the actor was supposed to be a version of the character. And the last part lol?

It's a pity there won't be even Ariel's hair in the live action. I don't buy the bright red not looking good in live action excuse, if some fans with no budget on youtube could make it look alright, Disney could have made the bright red look good with their budget too.

Personally, I think the sidekicks look cute. But I also thought Pumbaa in TLK looked better than the original film, so... Real-life warthogs are cuter than the Disney design though, I guess. I was more zoned in on the design of Eric's castle because I'm not crazy about it; I'm waiting to see how they screw up Atlantica now, too. At least Ursula's nautilus shell looks like it might be okay despite the rest of Ursula's design getting murdered, keeping the simplistic design from the original film and not making it look overdone and gaudy like they did Ariel's tail or Triton's armor.

Red hair wouldn't have been a problem in a live-action film at all. See Aquaman, where Heard's character looked really nice. Even if that had been an issue, you know making things look good isn't really their concern considering how bad the design for Ariel's tail, most of the costumes, and the CGI looks so far.

I, too, think the sidekicks look fine. I didn't find Flounder cute, but Sebastian and Scuttle kinda are.

Ursula's nautilus shell looks almost exactly like the original, how is it just "okay"?

And Ariel has realistic red hair. I know not realistic in that Black people don't have red hair, but realistic in that most people who have red hair have more orangeish looking hair. In fact, isn't that color how all real, natural red hair looks?!

The costumes actually are not all bad. I find them mostly good from the leaked photos, merchandise, and last teaser. I just find parts of them bad. Like Ariel's orange headband is bad, but her blue dress looks good. Ursula's costume may turn out to be one I think is bad, but I have yet to get a good look at it thanks to no freaking trailer yet! Only Triton's armor looks like it might be really bad to me, but once again, no good look at it. Sotiris and Divinity, I implore you not to say all the costumes are bad, just some of them or some parts of them. But of course, if your opinion truly is that they are all bad, that is your right. Oh, and I must continue to say, I love Ariel's tail. I find it so beautiful, like many others do, too!

I said 'okay,' because it's just a puzzle and not the finished movie. I wouldn't be surprised if they read praise for the design and then digitally altered it to something uglier like they did with the logo. And the costumes are all bad.

If it's any consolation, I thought Eric's outfit in the Kiss the Girl scene was fine. There isn't an outfit of Ariel's I like yet, but there will probably be more in the film that weren't revealed from set photos, so who knows? Maybe I'll end up liking a couple.

The argument of "natural red hair" sounds silly to me. It would made sense if they cast a woman who was naturally a ginger. But here the actress is not a natural ginger, not to mention the racebend.

They dyed it either way, could have kept at least one thing and the most iconic part of her original design.

I think Sebastian looks the way I expected him to look, so I'm not surprised. I don't really think he. or Scuttle for that matter, look bad, but I'm not surprised they look more realistic. They sort if match the over all style of the film we've seen so far!

Oh, ok Divinity. As for the costumes, well I say some of them look good! Thanks for saying Eric's looks good, Sotiris!

Lele, I get what you mean, but the orangeish brown hair Halle has for this film looks way better on her than the fantasy red the animated Ariel had would look if they put that shade on Halle.

Odd comment: I actually know a black guy who IS a natural redhead. His hair comes in pretty orange, like most redheads, and he much more dark skinned than Halle Bailey. So her hair color is not impossible... but yes, rare.

About this film... just my opinion: the designs for Flounder and Sebastian look awful, but this is what I expected... and they will look even worse when they talk, sing and emote. What I think they should have done (which I'm sure they wouldn't have)... is turn Sebastian into a merman, and flounder into a kid-merman. The dynamics would be the same: Flounder would still be her friend, Sebastian would still be the court composer.
True, Sebastian wouldn't be able to go with her to the palace, but they could have worked around that.

But this would have required them to depart from the original film... which would have been risky (God forbid) and would have likely angered the fans (God forbidder!)

I agree. I mean, fake red hair on her was going to look dumb regardless. It should've been the actual color Ariel's hair is supposed to be since her hair had to be dyed anyway.
