Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
Raya, Luca, Spider-Man, Eternals, and Encanto (in that order). I'm more interested in the third Spider-Man with the news they're including previous film iterations of the character via AUs. Similarly, I'm much more excited about Eternals after the announcement of its star-studded cast--Madden, Jolie, Harington, Hayek, Nanjiani. I'll see Raya in theaters, probably Luca pending what the reactions are to the film at first release (it would be the first PIXAR film I would have seen in theaters since the first Toy Story back in the '90s), but wait for the others to come to rental services. Eh, I'll probably break down and see Encanto in theaters, too, because it's a musical.

Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"

Raya is pretty much all that's on my radar.
Maybe spider-man 3, only because of Tobey maguire and co coming back. If its just a quick cameo though, I'm out. I have not bothered with the other two.

I am very excited for the animation slate coming from Disney and Pixar in 2021. I’m also excited to see Spielberg’s West Side Story.

The big screen take on Bob’s Burgers on April 9 is now unset. That obviously raises questions about the TV animated piece of IP heading to Disney+ or even sister Hulu, though no word from Disney.
Also the Locksmith Animation movie Ron’s Gone Wrong, about an 11-year-old boy who finds that his robot buddy doesn’t quite work, goes from April 23 to Oct. 22.

Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
I started making my ranking at the beginning of the year, but finally didn't post it. However, since most of the films haven't been released yet, I thought that perhaps it wasn't too late to do it. Here's my top 10:
1. Raya and the Last Dragon: Like I recently said in the thread for this film, I think I haven't been more exited for a movie (not just a Disney one) since Moana. It has some of the ingredients I like most in a Disney film: a fantasy world, a period setting, an interesting culture as inspiration, or a character with the potential to become a great Disney sidekick (Awkwafina's Sisu). And I've liked everything I've seen from it so far, from the character designs and the fantasy world to the story details.
2. Luca: At first, I wasn't as excited for Luca as I'm usually are for a new Pixar film. The initial premise sounded too conventional for the studio to me. Also, La Luna, which is by the same director, is not one of my favorite Pixar shorts. However, when I learned both main characters would be sea monsters, which is something I don't think has been done before, and we saw some concept arts, my interest in it increased considerably. The teaser trailer also looked great to me. And now I think a less ambitious and probably more lighthearted movie could be a nice change of pace for Pixar. Especially, after a film like Soul, which is really good, but very ambitious and serious in tone.
3. Encanto: I think I'll end up being more excited for this film than for Luca, but right now, since we don't know much about it, I'm slightly more excited for the latter. I like the setting, that it's a musical and the fact that there's magic in it. Also, Byron Howard is one of my favorite directors currently working at WDAS (if not my favorite), so that makes me hopeful I'll like it.
4. Spider-Man: No Way Home: I've really liked the two previous entries in this franchise, so I'm looking forward to this one too. The fact that it continues the story that has started in WandaVision is exciting to me too, as I'm really enjoying that show and I will want to know what happens next. Unlike most people, though, I'm not so happy about the cameos from actors from previous Spider-Man movies. First, because I don't know if it'll work, and second, as I fear the current characters may not have enough screen time as a result.
5. Eternals: I don't know much about this film or the next one in my ranking, but both will introduce us to new Marvel worlds that hadn't been adapted before and that's exciting to me. This one also has a great cast and a good director. I just hope the tone is a bit more hopeful than Nomadland's (the director's previous film), which I liked, but was a bit depressing.
6. Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Apart from what I said before, I'm also excited for Awkwafina's involvement.
7. Cruella: I previously had Jungle Cruise in this spot, but after watching the trailer, I think I now anticipate this film slightly more. Though, it's likely I'll end up preferring Dwayne Johnson's movie. I really liked I, Tonya, so if the director can bring something similar with this movie, it could be great. It looks good to me so far, but most recent Disney remakes/prequels/sequels have not been very good, in my opinion, so I'm not too optimistic.
8. Jungle Cruise: I think the fact this has been postponed so many times makes me see it as an old movie already, but I'm still excited for it. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are both very charismatic, and judging by the trailers, it seems they have good chemistry together. I also think the mix of romance and adventure could work really well.
9. Black Widow: Black Widow has never been one of my favorite characters in the MCU films. I've always found her a bit too serious and I thought her character wasn't developed much. However, I rewatched all the MCU films between the releases of the two last Avengers films to get a better sense of the big story about the gems that connects all of them (previously, I had seen most of the films just once and didn't remember all the details well), and then I liked her much more. I noticed how her character evolved from film to film and that she actually had a good arc. So, I look forward to see her own solo film now. It's just that, for some reason, the trailers released so far haven't made me too excited for it.
10. Deep Water/The Last Duel: In this spot I previously had Nomadland, but I've already seen it, so I think my next most anticipated movie would be one of these two.

According to a Fandango survey, these are this year's most anticipated summer flicks. Jungle Cruise and Free Guy didn't make the cut.

I'm a little surprised people are more excited for Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard or Hotel Transylvania: Transformania than for those two movies.Sotiris wrote:According to a Fandango survey, these are this year's most anticipated summer flicks. Jungle Cruise and Free Guy didn't make the cut.
Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard surprises me a little, especially since it was released four years ago and you'd think interest would have waned. Although it was a decent hit and it probably picked up more viewers on streaming and television airings.
Hotel Transylvania doesn't surprise me. The first three are very popular with audiences, with the third movie making over $500 million worldwide.

Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
I'm going to rank the unreleased films again (well, my top 5) because there have been some changes in my list. I'm now more excited for Shang Chi than for Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home. I really liked the last two Spider-Man movies, but I'm really not a fan of them mixing this version of the superhero with the previous ones.
1. Encanto
2. Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
3. Spider-Man: No Way Home
4. Eternals
5. The Last Duel

Curiously, Jungle Cruise and Free Guy are doing quite well at the box office right now, better than several of the movies that did appear on that list, which proves that these surveys are not 100% reliable.Sotiris wrote:According to a Fandango survey, these are this year's most anticipated summer flicks. Why aren't Spider-Man: No Way Home or West Side Story on the list? Are they not considered fall movies?

It's strange those two weren't included. Usually, winter movies are lumped together with fall movies in the industry, but maybe Fandango wanted to be more specific and technical. Who knows?
Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
Even if they wanted to be technical, winter doesn't begin until December 21 and these two movies are released before that. Anyway, I'm glad Encanto made the top 10.

According to a Fandango survey, these are this year's most anticipated winter films. It turns out, they do separate fall from winter movies.

Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2021
Interesting that they do separate lists for fall and winter. Come to think of it, I guess it makes sense to include movies released since the beginning of December and not from when winter actually begins since many Christmas related films are released during that time. It's also interesting that there are more Oscar contenders than blockbusters on that list, but I guess there aren't many blockbusters left to release this year.
