Good to know I’m not alone!
I just think Zurg’s design is a little odd looking, it’s hard for me to imagine that design working as a serious villain. The moments with him in Toy Story 2 were so funny. I know they were probably more inspired by Darth Vader, but the design always makes me think of the villain from the Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Oddly, Rivera contradicts this deleted scene from the first "Toy Story" movie that reveals that the Buzz Lightyear toy comes from an animated television show.Sotiris wrote:Source: https://www.laughingplace.com/w/article ... at-annecy/“A film unlike any we’ve ever done before,” Jonas Rivera teased about the next upcoming project, a sci-fi adventure film, Lightyear. “You know his name, now discover his story.” He explained that back when they made the first Toy Story, they imagined that Buzz Lightyear was a toy based on a big blockbuster film, that could’ve been Andy’s new favorite movie. “Lightyear is the definitive story of the original Buzz Lightyear.” Chris Evans will voice the title character in the film, which is due out in Summer 2022. “We can’t wait to take audiences, I’m gonna say it, to infinity and beyond.”

It's not odd. It's to be expected they'd lie and revise history to justify this cash grab's existence.estefan wrote:Oddly, Rivera contradicts this deleted scene from the first "Toy Story" movie that reveals that the Buzz Lightyear toy comes from an animated television show.

I wouldn’t call It a lie per se, As he could’ve been referring to a very early development before they made a scene/an idea to change that scene/backstory information after they made a scene as After all why was a scene not use in the final movie? Not to mention that they did recycle the scene/backstory And also change it for Toy story 2 [ A.k.a. my favourite movie BTWSotiris wrote:It's not odd. A trailer will be shown before Encanto at theaters:

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
^It seems the tweet has been deleted, but if a Pixar animator said it, it's probably true. I'm really curious about Lightyear. It's great we won't have to wait much to know more about the film.
Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
I have a screenshot, but I don't know if I should post it, I don't want to get anyone in trouble.
Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
Don't worry, there's no need to post it. I believe you. Plus, I've seen it's been reported on other sites as well.

Even when a trailer's coming out is treated like some big secret by Disney nowadays.

It’s ridiculous. All Hollywood studios think they’re the most important thing in the world.
My favorite nonsensical thing is when a trailer starts with a brief teaser of the trailer you’re about to watch. I understand that this is because the instagram generation has the attention span of a brick but ugh, it’s all so self indulgent.
Also, who asked for this film?

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
They do that on YouTube for when the trailer appears as an ad before another video and grabs someone's attention, so they don't immediately press the "skip" button. But even though I understand the reasons, I also find it slightly annoying.PatrickvD wrote:My favorite nonsensical thing is when a trailer starts with a brief teaser of the trailer you’re about to watch. Regarding "who asked for this?", I've been curious about Pixar making a Buzz Lightyear movie akin to the television series for years. So I guess I did. Although I don't know why somebody asking for a movie is a requirement for its existence. Nobody was sending letters to Walt Disney asking him to make a feature-length animated film based on "Snow White." Most of Hollywood was even dismissive of the idea when he announced it. But he went ahead and made it anyway and history was made.
Similarly, nobody asked George Lucas to make a science-fiction space adventure as a homage to the old B-movie serials. And nobody, except for maybe Melissa Mathison, was sitting around wondering "I hope Steven Spielberg makes a family movie about a friendly space alien who helps a young boy." Columbia even chose to let E.T. go to Universal, because it had departed so heavily from Spielberg's initial horror movie pitch (Not even joking. E.T. was originally a horror movie).

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
I think PatrickvD probably meant more in the sense of the brand extension / spin off factor.
I'm sure something would get in the way of this happening copyright-wise, but I actually think a film based around Barbie (Jodi Benson) would have been much more fun than one around Woody or Buzz Lightyear.
I mean, a Barbie-centered movie would be completely different in tone than this, too, I imagine. More humorous than serious.

Oh, really? Interesting. That makes sense to me. There are a lot of touches of horror in that film, even though it's ultimately a family film. The beginning with all the creatures in the dark, their chests glowing sort of creeped me out as a child. Then the shots of the family house in the dark and they think something is outside. Or later when E.T. is found dead or the way they portray the quarantine takeover of the house. Makes sense that an alien film would've began its start that way. And explains the actress for the mother, since I primarily associate her with horror films.estefan wrote:Columbia even chose to let E.T. go to Universal, because it had departed so heavily from Spielberg's initial horror movie pitch (Not even joking. That would only leave two possible concept from my point of view; a "real" Woody that lived in the old West, or an actor who played a character named Woody in cowboy films.thedisneyspirit wrote:Why isn't Woody getting his own spinoff movie??
The actor idea would mean a very realistic movie with no impossible elements. And that would probably be true for the real Woody too, and I can't see Pixar making a traditional cowboy movie (or a "weird west" feature). Also, settings in the old West is becoming increasingly politically incorrect these days.

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
Both ideas are interesting, but I prefer the former. If Buzz is getting his own real-life origin story, so should Woody. It's only fair since they're co-leads and Woody is the heart of the franchise.Rumpelstiltskin wrote:That would only leave two possible concept from my point of view; a "real" Woody that lived in the old West, or an actor who played a character named Woody in cowboy films.

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
It would no doubt feel more authentic. But the main difference between Buzz and Woody is that Buzz is at home in a science fiction setting, which open up for a lot of possibilities. How many would watch an animated version of a cowboy in the wild West? Pixar would probably have to offer something extra.Sotiris wrote:Both ideas are interesting, but I prefer the former. Another alternativ that would have been typical Pixar (toys that are alive when nobody are watching, the same with video game characters (actually Disney, but Wreck-it Ralph was made in the Lasseter era when the two studios became more and more alike), fish and insects talk without humans realize it, emotions have a life on their own and so on). So if Woody is a character in a TV-show, the world inside the show may continue to exist on its own every time a new episode has been aired. Or maybe after the show has been cancelled. How that can be combined with the actors playing the characters would of course be a challenge.
Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
A member of the Pixar Post forum has found two new book synopses which reveal that the film will have a co-lead:
Source: https://www.amazon.com/Lightyear-Middle ... ref=sr_1_5This middle grade novel is a sci-fi, space adventure following the events of the film from the unique perspective of the film's co-lead.
Source: https://www.amazon.com/Lightyear-Pictur ... ref=sr_1_4This hardcover jacketed picture book captures the humor and antics of Buzz and his new friend in this story inspired by the film.

Re: Lightyear (Pixar Film)
Of course, he has. Can't have a buddy road trip movie without a buddy. I wonder if this friend will have any similarities to Woody or if their relationship will parallel that of Buzz and Woody in any way. Maybe they start off as rivals and later on evolve into friends like they did.
