I think I remember your comment, and I knew the release date of each movie, but for some reason I hadn't realized they were so close to one another before. Anyway, Aladdin, Toy Story 4 and The Lion King were also released a month apart from each other and all did very well, so it's possible Mulan and Onward could do the same.

They might be successful. I definitely don't expect them to fail, though they don't have the same attraction as Aladdin, Yoy Story and The Lion King. (I also don't think Disney expected Aladdin to be as successful as it was).

You're right, I don't expect them to be as successful as those films either.

I'm way more confident in Onward than Soul. And I don't see anything wrong with it releasing close to Mulan, since by the time Mulan opens, Onward will have made most of its money already

The Call of the Wild is DOA. It's currently projected to open at $15 million. It's not going to affect Onward. You're right though that Disney movies will end up cannibalizing each other. This year alone, Disney is releasing 27 movies in theaters.

I'm the other way around. I think Soul is going to be much more successful than Onward both critically and commercially. People were more intrigued by Soul's concept and they generally seem to enjoy Docter's brand of storytelling.

Disney announced yesterday that "Onward" will have public screenings on the Saturday before release. They obviously want to get the audience word-of-mouth out early, suggesting a decent amount of confidence in the movie.

The rules about magic and spells are interesting and thought out which makes me wish even more the movie had a hard fantasy setting. This suburban/fantasy mix doesn't do it for me.

I'm pretty confident that Soul will probably be the one to win in most of the awards.

I mean, it's possible both Mulan and Onward will be successful. I remember many thought Toy Story 4's release would eat into Aladdin's numbers, but I was always confident Aladdin would hit a billion from the start. I still feel Mulan will do extraordinarily well--not that it deserves it based on the finished product--simply banking off nostalgia from the beloved original.

It's definitely possible I'll be wrong, but I'm much more interested in Onward than Soul right now. Phylicia Rashad being in Soul is the only thing that's interesting about that film for me so far. (Was Rashad going to be in that? I just had a thought I might've confused reality with something DisneyFan97 had conjectured.) Either way, you all are probably right that Soul will be the one to get awards attention regardless of its quality.

I'm not sure I'll like either of them, but I'll reserve my judgement after I see them.

New clip and extended version of the first one.

I didn't know it was projected to open that low, but I'm actually not surprised. Yes, Pixar won't have to worry for that film then.

Wow, that's promising too. It seems some theaters are also hosting a Pixar Marathon that includes Onward.

I also found them interesting. Well, they can always make a film with a full fantasy setting in the future.

Yes, you remember it correctly, Phylicia Rashad voices the mother of the protagonist in Soul.

I might have posted this in the wrong theard but i was NOT saying Phylicia Rashad is in this movie. I might have said she was the main reason am excited about Soul. Which would have been mad since obviously the main reason to be excited about that movie would TINA FREAKING FEY one of the funnest living woman today !!!

Fey is even writing her own jokes in the screenplay ala Robin Williams in Aladdin !!!   :) :) :D :D Could it get ANY BETTER !!
