Rumpelstiltskin wrote: It's not really what others may think of you, but how others experience a thread. If you are all delighted and excited, and come to talk about a movie you look forward too, but all (or at least the majority) you meet is negative reactions, it could perhaps kill the spark. Or at least weaken its glow.
I remeber seeing the trailer for a Christmas movie (don't remember its name) as a kid, and was really excited about it. Then I read a critic's opinions about it in a newspaper, and it was such a blow that I never went to see the movie after reading that it was more or less crap. Maybe I would have hated it, or maybe I would have loved it.

On the other hand, there should of course be room for honest oponions, even if not everybody agrees. The problem is if a certain view (positive or negtive) dominates way more than others. As I said, it's a dilemma.

(Also, there are perhaps people who have worked on the movie, which are proud of what they have done, that read the comments on this board.)
I understand what you mean. It's dispiriting to see so much negativity aimed at something you like/love; I have that feeling all the time when I post here, actually, and some other places. What others think doesn't affect my enjoyment or dislike of things even though everyone likes to be agreed with. Sometimes I've found that when you feel hesitant about voicing an opinion that seems unpopular but say it anyway, others who feel the same and were similarly hesitant will be more emboldened to say it, too.

Rumplestiltskin, well said. By the way, the mermaids in pools were meant for most hilarious gag than practical design.

As long as everybody address each other in a polite tone, it should be room for most opinions.

Yes, the mermaid could be a gag. But it would still be interesting to see them give it a little more attention. Perhaps she is the fantasy version of Beverly Hillbillies, moving into a neighborhood where she doesn't really belongs despite all the drawbacks it means. Yet she insist of living there, believing it gives her a higher social status.

I wonder if the merfolk are all gonna be using wheelchairs to get around on land? Would they be considered disabled by land folk in this world? Then again if all merfolk use wheelchairs does that really make it a disability? :P

If car obsessed John Lasster had still been around at Pixar, he would have begged them to give him a little test ride.

The synopsis of the 8-minute clip shown sounds both strange and emotionally devastating.

This unfortunately may be a hard pass for me. My dad died from cancer two years ago (A few months before Coco, so the movie really got me at first), but it feels too soon for me to watch something like Onward. I will definitely see it at some point, but I don't know about seeing it in theaters. I'm already tearing up, thinking about it.

What a great poster. I really love the dominant colors they're using.... The whole vibe of this film is drawing me, even though it is PIXAR. I hope I'm not disappointed.

I'm really looking forward to this film! I like the poster! It's a clever way to show what the story is about and with patches, a character quirk.

I find the poster to be quite unusual. I thought it was just a piece of merchandising at first.

The information released at the Expo intrigued me. I like that it heavily involves magic and spells. I'm definitely more interested in this now than before.

I wonder if there are these kinds of posters for Disney’s older, animated films out there? They’re very nice.
