Disneycember Month by Doug Walker of TGWTG

I think the reason why these reviews feel disorganized is because Doug himself hasn't done a lot of research. In his Mulan video he admitted that he didn't watch many of the animated classics for Disneycember, instead only reviewing them by remembering the last time he saw the film.

That's bad news, imo. If you're gonna do something like this you better watch the films and know a bit of info about them previous to reviewing them in such a way that he does (matter-of-fact).

My guess is that for years his fans have asked him to review a Disney film as the Nostalgia Critic, but he hasn't found it in himself to do so (he's actually either super fond of Disney or he wasn't want to end up like the Nostalgia Chick), so he created Disneycember so he'd hit two birds with one stone (pleasing his fans and not criticizing the only part of his childhood that he likes).

Last year he didn't review Mars Needs Moms either. I'm hoping that will be saved for a Nostalgia Critic Entry. Yeah skipping over Old Yeller isn't a great idea in my opinion. He also should have done all the Shaggy Dog Movies ala Tron, Parent Trap, etc.

I am also surprised that he skipped over Swiss Family Robinsons and Old Yeller, movies that are very popular and well recognized in film and Disney culture. Those would have made more sense than, say, Popeye.

He's a massive Popeye fanboy, so that makes sense.

Here are some of the noteworthy films Doug skipped over:
- Treasure Island (Officially the first live action Disney film not counting the hybrid films)
- Old Yeller
- The Shaggy Dog
- Pollyanna
- The Absent Minded Professor
- That Darn Cat!
- The Happiest Millionaire
- Return to Witch Mountain

It also confirms that for this Disneycember, he went through the films he was more familiar with along with the films that everyone knows about. I get that he was not gonna talk about movies like Gus, Family Band, The Ugly Dachshund, The Monkey's Uncle, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and such since they are not only hard to find, they are not as beloved or well known. But for the movies I mentioned, it is inexcusable since those movies are easy to find and well recognized.

To an extend, yes. People felt Disney was running out of ideas for movies, and them trying to make movies based off of Disney rides felt like a ridiculous idea. And considering that the first one out of the gate was The Country Bears, people had little hope for it. But it wasn't until it premiered and got great reviews that people began to accept it and love it.

I liked a lot the first film when it came out and got into the books afterwards. I even liked a lot some the additions of the first film to the story. Hated the second one though. The third film I can't even remember what was it about, and I watched it!

I'm not sure if he will. Doug tries to stay away with DTV and TV movies, especially for stuff like this.

Although to be fair, the third WAS a theatrical release, and he may not even know that the first two wasn't, given his lack of doing homework in every case. But I don't see him tackling these movies.

Well, to give my thoughts; I'm glad Doug liked the "Freaky Friday" remake. It's always been a favorite of mine. Most because of nostalgic reasons.

As for "Narnia"; The first one is the best one. "Prince Caspian" wasn't bad, but had more problems; a muddled pacing, a more inconsistent tone and the awkward notion of having a song at the very end.

I'm with Doug here. As silly as the first one seemed, I really enjoyed it anyway, and while the second is WAY too redundant for its own good, I had some fun with it as well. I actually do prefer these movies to the Pirates films.

However near the end he said he'll be doing one or two by popular demand n January that people are complaining he missed and a picture of Old Yeller pops ups , and says oops. At least he's listening to his critics to some extent I guess.

Yep, he skipped Pollyanna and That Darn Cat! for flipping HSM. Not to mention that he called Tommy Kirk Jeff York. How'd he get that messed up so much?

To be fair, these were reviewer requests as reviews that his audience wanted most. I've only watched his HSM and Newsies reviews. And while I like both of those films, I actually like Newsies more. I just discovered the movie a couple years ago and had a blast watching it but I do agree with Doug that it fits better onstage. Speaking as someone that has been both the film and the play, I love both but in the long run, the play is superior.

Is it strange that I've never seen Song of the South? I hear so much commentary towards it, but aside from the slavery there's not really much else. Everything else seems very boring.

FYI Song of the South takes place in the late 1860s/early 1870s, so where pray tell is the slavery?

Slavery was ended here in the US in 1865 with the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution.
