So far, I think Doug is doing okay for his Disneycember reviews. He is no James Rolfe, However, when it comes to his Monster Madness reviews, but at least he does his reviews in his own unique style. Here is what I think about the reviews so far:

SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT

Snow White - I agree the main character does not have the best singing voice (though that can be greatly up for debate) and the prince appearing out of nowhere at the end was questionable. I wonder why Doug did not comment on the irony of how the queen turning into the witch forever ruined her chances of being the fairest in the land.

Pinocchio - I can understand if he hates/dislikes Jiminy Cricket for being kind of annoying (though I can take or leave him since I grew up with him on sing a long videos), but I agree this was one of the darker Disney films for kids.

Fantasia - I NEVER appreciated this as a kid (Except maybe for the sorcerer's apprentice segment) since I could never get through it entirely.

Dumbo - Good how he commented on the semi-racism issue on the crows
and how it did not seem to bother him much at all.

Bambi - I agree with Doug on this one. I think the animation is the best part of the film.

Saludos Amigos - I have never seen this so I cannot comment on it.

I've just watched all of them, and I don't wholly agree or disagree with his views. I personally like Snow White as a character and find her mroe likable than some of the other princesses (e.g. Aurora) and I think her singing voice is okay, but I do agree with his points about the Dwarfs being the memorable characters and how great the animation for the otherwise flat Wicked Queen is. Unlike Doug, I like Jiminy Cricket, but I think he has a point with his belief that Geppetto being the focus would have made more sense.

I too adore Fantasia, but I strongly disagree with his views on Dumbo; yes, it wasn't technologically groundbreaking, yet it's much, much more than simply a fun film, being one of Disney's funniest, most touching and most well-animated. I don't think Bambi is one of Disney's finest (it's a bit style-over-substance), but I whole-heartedly concur with his points about Saludos Amigos; he's quite right about how wonderfully animated and designed the 'Aquarelas De Brasil' sequence is. I'm looking forward to his opinions on the other DACs.

What no mention of the controversy regarding the Martins and the Coys?

This project has officially lost its' value, gratitifcation for me. His take on Dumbo was a big enough failure on its' own but now he's completely lost with the package features. And stuck in a "Kinda" Limbo. Everything he doesn't say he loves is "kinda." No more details are necessary. I'll grant him one bit of leighway though in that, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes- having to produce this many videos every single day or two. Edit this much footage from movies together. He's got to be feeling a little rushed. But, he is REALLY short changing these movies. Not because 3 minutes isn't enough. It's because he just isn't saying anything funny when he points out something bad or dark and a lot of his compliments are generic. In the end, I almost end up questioning whether Disney is even for him at all. Oh, that's right, it's "Kinda" for him.

Anyway, so far, I would say his videos on Fantastia and Bambi have been the only good ones.

I love those! while I'm not always with Doug's taste on things I'm a long NC fan, I'm a registered member on his site and I love his style of humor, in this reviews, he always tells something that i didn't know, but since Saludos Amigos I'm pretty much lost, because I've only seen segments of those movies, but they are interesting to watch anyway.

thanks for the welcome on the Brave thread, Dr Frankenollie!

Really Doug? Don't know anything about Edgar Bergen or bother researching some of this stuff?

Why didn't he just review them as NC it would have been lot funnier, its just funny how some peoples on here are so worked up on one guys opinion. I think he will fair better with this style of reviews when the package films are done.
Der Fuehrer's Face is the greatest Donald Duck cartoon ever made.

I was kinda surprised about the lack of knowledge he has in regards to these films, yet once in a while he slips in something he picked up somewhere. Not that I expect most people or even most critics to be Disney experts, but they usually have as much knowledge as I do and then some, despite that I'm a Disney fanatic. And, you just expect someone to know characters like Charlie McCarthy and so on if they are film critics...

Regardless, I'm enjoying this. It's just nice to hear someone talk about these, frankly, especially the less acknowledged or lesser known ones like the package films. I do hope he doesn't skip Melody Time or Ichabod and Mr. Toad. I've also bee watching a little Cinemassacre lately, as I haven't watched any of James' stuff in a LONG time, but I always love his movie reviews, probably because I usually agree with them. They aren't full of a lot of excessive complaints. Really loved his assessment of the fourth Indiana Jones film!

He definitely makes a good point about Ichabod being one of the few Disney leads to be a jerk. (Although compared to characters like Kenai and Kuzco, he has some sort of likability.) And I do find it funny that he mentioned it probably influenced Sam Raimi seeing as how it influenced another director who has a flair for combining the dark and the humorous. And I'll give you a hint: This guy also did a version of the Sleepy Hollow story which had references to the cartoon.

I agree and my pleasure.

Here are the next three

Yeah. The Nostalgia Critic is kind of like the Queen of Hearts.

I was kind of surprised to see that he mentions what he thinks of Captain Hook given how he put Ratigan as the funniest Disney villain while saying: "I know a lot of people love Hades or Captain Hook." which kind of implied he wasn't really a Captain Hook fan. But oh well.
