 I was thinking of icicles, but I suppose that wouldn’t be child-friendly. Maybe an adult audience?

It's not over, of course. Disney Animation's latest epic fairy tale will not carry it's original name, “The Snow Queen.” Instead the animated feature will be known as, “Frozen.”

Naturally, this is what happens when marketing drives the creative process. Clever, one word titles is what sells, right? Even though the book might be known world wide, let's come up with a title no one has ever heard of. Something hip, edgy and cool. That'll bring the audience in, right? [...]

Currently, Disney Animation is hard at work on their latest animated feature, “The Snow Queen.” Oops! I mean, “Frozen.” I try to keep an open mind and look forward to the day when this silly marketing notion will be put on the shelf forever. I can only imagine what the Old Maestro would think if he was around today. “The Disney Princesses are what built this studio,” he would say. “Are you guys nuts?” I'm sorry, Walt. I'm afraid they are.

If Floyd were in any way associated with this production he'd know Frozen is now so far removed from The Snow Queen that it's probably for the best. They might as well call it Great Expectations.

It's not that different. It's still about a girl who goes on a perilous journey to save the person she loves. And there's still a Snow Queen in it. :P

I think all similarities end right there.

I'm very curious to see if they have more from the book in there. I loved how they worked Rapunzel's healing tears in Tangled. I'd be happily surprised if they'll keep some little things from the book.

Well, when "Tangled" grossed $590mil worldwide, it was only natural that Disney was going to do a follow-up using the same marketing tactics. And as for the Frozen dolls not making an appearance at that toy fair, not even surprised, I knew after those leaked posters came out, you were not gonna get any Frozen related info "officialy" from Disney for quite some time. I guess Devianart fan-art will have to do for the next couple months.

Nope! :P

Here's another question they should of asked Stitch Kingdom: Will future animated films The Good Dinosaur & Big Hero 6 go threw anything like this?

Heck no! Are you crazy? That's Pixar & Marvel related! No need to hide them!

Even if that was the case, surely they could still have come up with a better title?

Same goes for Tangled, I don't think Rapunzel works well as a title but they could still have thought of something else.

Slimming a title down to one word is so silly. Don't make the title of a film a mouthful if you're concerned about people remembering it. I think the last animated film with a title that's a mouthful to say is "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole". In Legend's case, the director should have picked one side of the colon or the other as the film's title instead of using both sides!

Gasp! Floyd Norman AGAINST the tactics of modern day Disney?? WELL COLOR ME SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF! :o

... :P

But all kidding aside, I definitely see what he means with these one word titles that are somewhat close to the original story, but I think people got over Tangled once the movie was released and was really good. Heck, Tangled was a huge financial success, and I think that was because the movie sold itself well enough, and the quality made people come back to it.

I could care less for the name as long as the movie is good in the end.

LOVE that. I'm sick of the all the sexist, racist, whatever-ist nonsense. Like many people have said, the only way to move past all that is to stop talking about it.

I don't think I posted it here, but I've thought it since that picture of Anna & Kristoff came out...at least in that picture, he reminds me of a Muppet. Mostly Bert...anyone else see that?! :p

There were loads of complaints about it over on Tumblr.
Many were saying that since Disney took so many liberties with the source material, they could have placed it in a region with POC's. Also saying that even Scandinavia has some minority POC's. Or that their choice of source material was not diverse enough.

It's all quite ridiculous, really. You hardly see these complaints pop up when other animation studios and Hollywood in general use mostly whites in lead roles. It is an issue to be addressed but singling out WDAS is rather unfair to them, especially since they do have more diversity than other Western animation studios.

That said....

We can't just ignore these issues and pretend they don't exist either. It's an industry wide problem where minorities and females don't get the representation and respectful portrayals they deserve. Not talking about it and thinking that sexism and racism don't exist anymore will only continue to perpetuate this.

I apologize if I come across as haughty here.

No, you're fine. You're definitely right that completely ignoring it isn't the way to go - I don't think that's quite exactly what people mean when they say we need to stop talking about it. It's definitely true that sexism and racism still exist (just stop by any youtube video's comments for a full-on barrage). But just as ridiculous as those horrible comments is the opposite side of the fight - those people on tumblr who will attack anything that isn't completely 100% all about strong women and minorities.

When there's a white main character, many people take it as some sort of ridiculous attack on minorities. It's just silly.

Isn't it also racist to hate a character's design just because she's white? :brick:
