To me, the Tangled perfect formula is :
- all the charming vintage look and classic aesthetics of the good old 50's movies (landscapes, settings, colors, costumes, atmosphere and vibes in general), plus...
- ...all the emotionnal and energic art of the storytelling of 90's movies, plus...
- ...all the modernity of recent Pixar technology and humor

Somehow I have a feeling it wont be as good. glen keane was what really sold the animation, and without him I fear the characters will be missing that organic hand animated feel.rodis wrote:^I agree. Disney has done incredibly well adapting classic fairy tales into films and I have a feeling that with PatF, Tangled and WIR, they're really outdoing themselves with every release.
I liked Tangled a lot but something tells me Frozen is gonna be better.
Disney+fairy tale=pure magic.
True, but Glen's been working with and mentoring the artists still there for years. It was inevitable that at some point it would be up to them to take up the task on their own, and I think they've gotten to the point where they can. I know Wreck it Ralph was entirely different beast with the 8 but animation and whatnot, but the animation in that film is fantastic. I think the animation dept can handle it - it'll be up to the story dept to determine if its better or worse than Tangled.

TP&TF as well. To be fair, at least Menken had 7+ successes, whereas Newman was a complete WTH choice. It remains to be seen whether the new composers will do well, though I think they will. I just wonder if they'll be out of their comfort zone, considering Book of Mormon and Avenue Q were both focused on humor.SWillie! wrote:(Something I think Tangled was lacking in overall).

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Fortunately, Bobby will have his wife's sensitivity to balance it all. I was wondering if Funny Bobby could write emotionnal stuff... Obviously, "Let it Go" is very good and sincere. Maybe we will have a "I've Got a Dream" kinda scene with dancing silly snow men or something like that, but as long as the drama theme between Elsa and Anna remains at the core of the songs and movie, i don't mind.
My worry is more about the score. Can Robert Lopez write a whole narrative soundtrack, with action music and all ?

Speaking of that, has it ever been officially confirmed that the Lopez's will be doing the score? I would assume so, given that they were announced long ago with nobody else mentioned, but perhaps there is still a chance they will only be handling the songs as in Winnie the Pooh.Edthehyena wrote:Fortunately, Bobby will have his wife's sensitivity to balance it all. I get the feeling Henry Jackman will write the score, like he's done for the past couple of Disney Animation titles.
And I think Lopez could do well with dramatic songs. Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon both have their more emotional and heartfelt moments. This song from The Book of Mormon is even heavily inspired by Alan Menken's "I Want" songs:

Man,Alan Menken's influence is really big in the musical world.Yeah, its kinda of seems to be a standard to measure up to Mr.Menken.Then again he was the composer for a lot of the songs in the 90's.Sotiris wrote:Funny you should say that; Robert Lopez said something similar a while ago.estefan wrote:This song from The Book of Mormon is even heavily inspired by Alan Menken's "I Want" songs.
Also one thing to note Robert Lopez is 37 years old he was born in 1975.Which means he probably was fourteen when the Little Meremaid came out.Yeah,I defiantly have a feeling that Menken left a mark on this guy's life.

RodryCroft, you might be interested to know that your fanart of Anna is being passed around on tumblr as new concept art.
I can't get a link with the text for some reason.
Here's the text and the link. http://welcometomyanimatedlife.tumblr.c ... some-early
EDIT: I just realised the other picture is from WizArt's production. This person did not do her homework.

There's a picture I've never seen along with it, but considering this person's research, I'm guessing it's not legitimate. Pretty, though.Happy Sunday Funday!
I came across some early concept work for Disney’s newest film, Frozen, taking the classic children’s story The Snow Queen and adding their Disney magic!
I can’t wait until more concept work is released!
Happy animating!
