Classic Disney Trailers
Those trailers were okay to me, but isn't it so funny when the announcer says, "The wonderful friends she meets" when they're all angry and running toward her to do something bad to her? Anyway, I just realized: do you think the smoky hands that takes Ariel's voice in The Little Mermaid were inspired by the crocodile hands the caterpillar smokes up?!
Anyway, I finally found my favorite Sleeping Beauty trailer, probably also my favorite trailer ever!:
Sleeping Beauty 1995 Re-release
So amazing, so hot, so chilling! Obviously the music's a huge part, but great sound effects! Excellent ideas having Sleeping Beauty's castle in the logo turn into Sleeping Beauty's castle in the film, using Maleficent's exit backwards to make her enter, and showing Aurora happy right before she's cursed, I mean, Phillip asks "when will I see you again" and it's like he won't now that she's dead!
I also happen to like the Platinum Edition Blu-ray trailer:
Sleeping Blu-ray
The music helps here, too, my favorite being the music from the beginning as the vault opens. Love the vault opening on the old story, and then the story coming to life, love the purple smoke effect before the restoration comparison, and the blue cloth blowing in the wind is a beautiful idea. Small problems I have are Maleficent appearing in a ray of sparkling blue light, sorry, no, that's supposed to be just for the Good fairies (unless it's supposed to be the magic of Blu-ray, but I don't think it works). Also it's weird that Aurora dances with the animals while the music is creepy. Finally, it seems the music at the end while they say "Pristine Picture Quality" and "7.1 Surround Sound" and all that is off, the words should appear right on the "clanks" in the music. Can't explain it, don't know if it could be fixed, but I don't like it as is.

I love watching the really old trailers and then comparing them to the ones today. Trailers back in the 30's, 40's and 50's were a of a different class. They felt almost more like infomercials while today's try and tell a small story.

I know this is an extremely old thread, but I feel it is still worth talking about and discussing Disney trailers; something that has sunk in quality recently. I thought I would start with a basic comparison of some of the (so far) released Platinum vs their Diamond counterparts....
Snow White (there were many themed trailers released, this is just one)
Platinum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLUQef7PW5I
Diamond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-a7TFRxeIAw

Oh no .... I just typed an essay of a post, and it just posted a blank box ?!
I basically wrote about how the Platinum trailers compare to the Diamond Editions we have now .... does anyone have any prefrences ? I was just thinking anout how their home release covers have gotten worse, and I wondered if that applied to the trailers as well...

How do you think they compare ?
And I thought I was the only one crazy about trailers, lol
Anyway, I love trailers, especially the ones dating back from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and the current ones. The ones from the 30s-70s had too many spoilers. Way too many, and I really didn't like the way they were edited. And some of them were very long.
These modern trailers are okay, because they tell the story of the film in a few minutes (sometimes in a few seconds), and the final result is very satisfying. My personal favorites are:
Sleeping Beauty 1995 Theatrical Re-release
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbNuXUT2UWw
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1994 Home Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNnhwt8_Tyg
The Little Mermaid 1997 Theatrical Re-release
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGZX5-PAwR8
Beauty and the Beast 2012 Disney Digital 3D Theatrical Re-release
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osU_T8HB-9U
I love them all, especially the Sleeping Beauty one, mainly because of the music
it gives the film a more dramatic feeling.

I think those first three trailers are really good Sicoe, with the first two being really, really great to me!
In fact, that Sleeping Beauty trailer is my second favorite Disney trailer, or perhaps any trailer, ever!!!
But my most favorite trailer ever is this one, the best trailer for Cinderella I have ever seen, one of the best for any Disney movie or anything I have ever seen. I even know where the music is from, it's from the "Summer" from "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi, composed in 1723, around the era Cinderella is supposed to take place/evoke. You gotta check this out!:

That's really lame of them! Well, the only thing I could suggest is to look for a Cinderella trailer for Cinderella's Platinum Edition that begins with violin music and her scrubbing the floor and then it says "For the first time on DVD" and all the text is in gold, with sparkles. I can't find it but maybe you could, if you wanted to.
On the other hand I found a trailer I really like for Cinderella that I think is really really good in the beginning and some other parts and I love what they say about the film and how it's a masterpiece. But the music sounds like the one from the beginning of the Snow White 1994 trailer too!:

Yeah, I know that one, it's great

They used to make such lovely trailers back in the 90s. The current ones are okay too, but the 90s ones have that certain...I don't know how to call it...that makes them great!

Does anyone where the music at the beginning of this trailer is from? It sounds so familiar.

@Sotiris: It's from The Pagemaster, specifically the Main Title, written by James Horner.

(The music used in the trailer begins at 0:35 mark.)
I recognized the score instantly. Pagemaster is one of my childhood favorites.
