Are there UD-ers who still have Disney-classics on VHS-tape?

Recently I've replaced my last VHS-tape in the 'classic' Disney collection with a dvd (Peter Pan). It took me years to 'refresh' my collection and now I've done it dvd's are almost old-fashioned and I should actually start rebuilding my collection again on blu-ray (sorry, I don't think I need to). This doesn't mean I've thrown away my VHS-tapes, still got them in a bag (even managed to sell some of them a while ago). But apart from the official classic I've still got VHS of Song of the South, Darby 'O Gill and the little People and a few tapes with a collection of short of Mickey and the gang.

This is just a small introduction to lead up to my question to other UD'ers: does any of you still have Disney animated classics on VHS and if so, which titles? Do you still play them once in a while or do you keep them somewhere in a box or a closet to gather dust? In short, what do you do with them?

I still have all of my classics on VHS from when I was a kid! I just can't bring myself to throw them away, each one has a memory from my childhood attached to it and I would feel like I was throwing away a piece of my past. (I'm not a hoarder, I swear! lol) Sorry, I can't think of all of the ones I have off the top of my head but I would guess I have about 20 of them. Some I still watch(like Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan). There is something about the ads and the gritty picture of those old VHS tapes that is comforting to me.

I gave most of my Disney VHS tapes to my cousin a long time ago. I think I still have Return of Jafar somewhere though.

I sort of wished I had kept some of them though for collecting purposes. The old clam shells were pretty nice.

Yep, I still own just about all of the DACs on VHS that I had back then. Not even just the DACs, either. I still have Mary Poppins, both versions of The Parent Trap, and a bunch of Disney Afternoon tapes somewhere too.

I could probably get rid of some of the TDA tapes now (at least the ones with episodes that I own on DVD), but I could never be able to get rid of the classics. Nostalgia and collector's value kills that for me.

I only had Pocahontas and Lady and the Tramp and Toy Story/Toy story 2 and A Bugs Life on VHS and I think Mulan...still sitting on a shelf on these big bookcases that are built into my basement walls. I wouldn't get rid of them....but I don't have a trustworthy VCR to watch them, plus I have them on DVD now.

I've considered getting rid of mine, as I have quite a lot, but I actually do like having them, even if they are just in a cardboard box in the attic.

There are a few I haven't updated to dvd yet, but that's ok, I'll get around to it.

Overall I'd say I have about 20 or 30 Disney vhs tapes, as well as a handful of other movies.

I have a lot of Disney VHS tapes that I got from my local thrift store. As I get the Blu-ray edition of each film, I've been donating the VHS copy back to the same store!

Hmmm...interesting topic. I still have all my VHSes, but they are in a box in my childhood home. For the time being, I have no intention of getting rid of them.

Actually, I intend to hold on to some... in cases where Disney has tampered with the original (ahem...Beauty and the Beast ahem)... or cases where I had the VHS in spanish (I'm from latin america, but most of my Disney VHS are in english) and Disney has replaced a decades old dub that everyone knows and loves with a really bad new one... (ahem...Sleeping Beauty)...

I still have my classic Disney films on VHS, and I am NOT planning to sell them off. At all!

I gave away nearly all of my VHS's as I upgraded to DVD, starting about ten years ago. I simply didn't have the room and was thankful that DVD took up so much less space.

Funny that this topic was just brought up though, since this past week I picked up a few VHS titles at a garage sale, including Beauty and the Beast (still shrinkwrapped with store stickers!), Aladdin, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, all black diamond releases. I picked up a few other releases too, like Life With Mickey (gold case), the Farewell Season of the Main Street Electrical Parade (which I'd never seen before), and Pete's Dragon.

It's kinda weird how they're not worth much of anything, but it's pretty cool to have the old artwork and such.

Yep, I still have them and even has I upgrade to DVD or Blu-Ray, I still don't plan on ever throwing them away or donating them.

I keep all the copies I have of the Disney films--through VHS, DVDs, special editions, and Blu-Rays. That said, I only watch the VHS versions of some films that I feel are more powerful on the VHS than the DVD. That's why I buy every copy of Mermaid on VHS (the original release, not the 1994 re-release) because I know VHS wears down over time.

Plus, they had some awesome previews and trailers back then. I still love the one they had for the Mermaid 1994 re-release: “Before a lion became a king; before a beauty tamed a beast; before Aladdin unleashed a genie; there was a little mermaid…who dreamed of something more.” It’s very dramatic, and they usually don’t have those kinds of trailers anymore.

I still have The Lion King and Toy Story on VHS, the same tapes I've had since I was little.

Unfortunately, all my other Disney movies I've owned on VHS have been sold to Half-Price Books against my will. This was around the time the economy really turned to sh*t (so, about a couple years ago) and my dad, stressing out because of this, took almost all the VHSs I had, put them in a box, and sold them to Half-Price Books.

I've since begun recollecting these movies on DVD.

But haven't watched the VHSs as I have all 51 DACs on DVD now, along with the titles that have been release to Blu.

I recently "picked" Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and some other, and I still own TLK and Toy Story. I love VHS, it's has that element of nostalgia lacking in BDs.

I had every single animated classic up to "Lilo and Stitch" on VHS. But, my parents now own them. No idea how long that will last as my dad is in "get rid of stuff" mode lately. But, I remember as a child and into teen years what a big deal that collection was to me. I think sometimes the hunt is the part that is the most fun about it all, rather then the actually owning of the films.

i had heaps as a kid, and while i dont claim them as mine anymore, they are all still here. my neice and nephews are up-coming disney fans, and letting them use the videos saves my dvds. [their own dvds are scratched to hell and dont play at all]
that was one of the main reasons i bought my parents a vcr/dvd combo when their old vcr packed up a few years ago.

Even though I stopped using a VCR years ago, I still have some VHS copies my dad recorded, one of which regretfully was taped over certain parts.

At least one of the tapes broke from me watching it too much, and a lot of Disney tapes we used to have were unfortunately given away to Goodwill when I was thirteen.

I still use my VHS (LOL), but off the top of my head, I have on VHS Snow White Platinum Edition and Mary Poppins.

I still have a VHS-player, two in fact: one in a dvd-combo and one built-in in my old TV. Both still work. The problem with VHS-tapes is of course that they wear out quite quickly (on the other hand you cannot scratch them easily or make the tape dirty with greasy fingers) and that they take up so much space.

Several of my DACS on VHS I've given to my nephews and nieces, others to my parents (to show to their visiting grandchildren among other things) .

DVD's are in many ways much better than VHS tapes, but only if you treat them with care.It has happened so many times that I rented a dvd and I couldn't properly play it because it was full of scratches en stains. A real annoyance!
