i'll help you, heartless with creating forum sections. I have some ideas already.
---------------
DOWNTOWN DISNEY:
have sections of intros, news, fc etc.
-Introduce yourself and rules section- This section where new members can make threads to introduce themselves to much more older and experience members. As well as rules of the forum.
-Cafe- This would be where you post recent news events and discuss them and have subsections. We had few threads here on them but never went full force.
subsection of Cafe would be
debate corner- debate over questions like religion etc(perfect for goliath)
Games and poll- where you make fun polls and games like the UD one
-fanclubs section- make your own fc thread like The Aurora FC or Gaston FC.
------------------------
DISNEY STUDIO: where everything Disney related and main focus of the forum
The Disney section- much like the one we have now.
with live action Disney movies and news as subsection.
Disney theme parks section
Miyazaki section
Marvel Section- all Marvel related stuff goes here
--------------------
Backstage: other animation and comic medium outside of Disney
Other comics- comics outside of Marvel such as DC, Dark Horse, etc
Other western Animations- like Don buth etc
anime/manga- anything outside of Miyazaki
---------------------
Buena vista mall:
all other misc
Language classes
gaming department- talk about gaming. something I know Ajmorrow would like.
Music
Movies and TV- talk about anything from fav tv show to recent movies etc
Sports
literature
<strike>bath house</strike>
That's all I can come up with atm, heartless. use it if you like.

^ Good ideas for subsections, Super Aurora.

I agree with both you and Duster when it comes to this. I would like to be a moderator in theory, but sometimes I'd be too lazy and I'd probably abuse my power at one time or another.Disney's Divinity wrote:That's exactly what I was thinking, tbh. I like people who are more neutral (Definitely enigmawing! Or someone like Jay, Scarred4Life, Wonderlicious, etc.), who aren't going to abuse their power and ban/suspend people because they don't like them or their opinions. Otherwise, it'd just be a community for a certain niche of UD.

I could have Rey whip up a forum for us as he's familiar with phpBB (could even have him make it look like this one if we so chose) but the timing isn't so good right now. He just started a new job, we both have our hands full with various things, and on top of that we'll only be home for two weeks out of every month at least until the end of the year. It's something that's actually been brought up before due to the whole sitepocalypse issue but I'd really like to discuss it with him further before making any offers here.
And personally, my main issue would be moderation. Anyone who has ever been a moderator knows how tough and under-appreciated of a job it can be, especially if it's at a forum you'd like to remain social at. I know this from experience. In any case, I don't believe voting for mods would be a good idea as it would only turn it into a popularity contest and would involve a lot of hurt feelings; it's something that should really be the choice of those taking the time to build, host, and maintain the site. It's also important to choose people that can interpret the given rules properly, make impartial decisions so that order may be kept, and of course, those asked must have the time and interest to do so.
I must add that I've been a member of this community for which seems like forever, and I would feel odd "taking it over," so to speak. Right now my priorities rest on building material for a site of my own that is not necessarily community-based; if Rey and I were to host a community that would basically extend the life of this one, it would have to be done on our own terms. Nothing unreasonable of course.

Heartless, great idea! Thank you for offering setting up a new forum. It's much appreciated. I'm fully on board with it. Things like choice of moderators is low on my list of priorities right now. Most important is getting a new forum.
I suggest working on the creation of a new forum now that UD is still functioning, instead of waiting for approval of enough members. I also suggest making a new thread in the Disney Discussion section, or bumping the old Sitepocalypse thread, as more people seem to visit DD than Offtopic. As many people as possible should know about your wonderful initiative and I'm sure many would want to join.
I'm also sure Disney's Divinity and Disney Duster will want to join the new forum. I'm sure they understand that issues of moderation can be discussed after a new forum has been set up.
I think it would be a good idea to keep the basic rules of UD intact --e.g. not change the atmosphere of the forum.

Heartless, that's a great idea, and I just wanted to say thank you for doing this.
I think you should just go ahead and create the forum asap, and post the link in a thread in Disney Discussion, like Goliath said.
Super A, that seems like alot of sections. I think I would prefer something a bit simpler. But this is all totally up to you, Heartless.
And as for moderators, I think the first order of business would be to gather a list of volunteers, and then go from there. I see no other way to determine them then voting though. But we should do this after the new forum is created, so we can see who went over.

Heartless~ Sorry, meant to address what you were saying earlier but I was caught up in what I wanted to add. I think it would be great if you got something going, and that I'll help in any way I can. I'd suggest piecing the place together and getting it going before worrying too much about moderators, as that's something that can be figured out as the forum grows.

I only made a bunch like that so we have more topic to talk about and more stuff to do in a forum. Also it makes things bit more organized and such.Scarred4life wrote: Super A, that seems like alot of sections. I think I would prefer something a bit simpler. It is up to heartless though but just spilling out suggestions for her(him?).

Enigmawing, your post has summed up everything I had hoped to try to say when it comes to this subject. This is exactly what I had feared when it had come to "voting for Moderators," and why I only wanted input from all of you, atleast for the time being. In my opinion, the moderators themselves are not whats important.. whether they are able to accomplish and maintain their responsibilities with a thorough interpretation of the community rules with good judgement is what is important.enigmawing wrote:I could have Rey whip up a forum for us as he's familiar with phpBB (could even have him make it look like this one if we so chose) but the timing isn't so good right now. I guess I never made it known, but I also served for years as a moderator on a forum of 2000+ plus members. And I agree with you, it can be a daunting task, but I personally really enjoyed it. I think that we have pretty much come to a conclusion that at this moment, the Moderators are not a priority. I'm glad we can get past that right now. And by the way, I really appreciate your input!
Super Aurora wrote:i'll help you, heartless with creating forum sections. I have some ideas already.
Those are really creative! I was hoping to incorporate some more 'creative' section names, and your ideas are really cool. I'd love to incorporate some of these.

No problem! I will begin working on the actual forum tonight and hope to have it up and function in a few days. I know I may not have much time, but my goal is to get it up and publicized on this forum before the sitepocalypse. Once I get the forum up, I will create an announcement thread in the DD board.
I would hope that choice of moderators would not prevent anyone from joining the new forum. My intention is to create a stable and very similar community to what we have here (including similar guidelines, etc). A sort of 'continuation' of Ultimate Disney, so to speak.
Thank you for saying so. I agree with you on the amount of sections that Super A suggested. My original vision was of something more simpler, although more organized than what we have here. For example, multiple Disney boards instead of ONE main one.. it just gets too cluttered. However, his main ideas of separation and topics is what I had originally planned too, plus his names are creative. I appreciate his help and intend to incorporate his ideas into the creation of the forum.scarred4life wrote:Heartless, that's a great idea, and I just wanted to say thank you for doing this. I agree with you.. I will definitely try to make things more organized and your ideas would definitely help with that. I also hope a better separation of boards and better organization would help promote people to venture to off-topic sections and not stick to the Disney sections.Super Aurora wrote:I only made a bunch like that so we have more topic to talk about and more stuff to do in a forum. Alright, now that I have addressed all of you that have replied, I'll let you all know what the plan is right now. I'll begin work on the forum tonight and work as much as I can to get it up asap (hopefully by Wednesday). Once it has been completed, I will make a formal announcement. Please remember, however, that it may not live up to your expectations.. I do hope you guys remember that this is (atleast right now) more of a 'transition' forum so that we are not all lost after this site closes. Plus, I am not too worried about perfecting this at this point. I will get the main structure completed (will not take long) and make all of you aware. Details can always be worked out afterward.
Thank you all for your support with this!

Heartless~ I must say I personally enjoyed being a moderator as well, but some of the inconsistencies and lack of support from the site owner that I worked for frustrated the hell out of me. For example, he allowed sock puppets which totally messed up the community; it got so bad that members didn't know who was who anymore and many of my friends simply left due to all the drama it caused. He'd also play favorites and overturn moderating actions because he'd change his mind over enforcing the rules on a whim.
Oy . . . but that's a different story altogether, lol. I'm just glad my input has helped.
I hope things come together well and can run smoothly!

Eep! That really sounds awful! I agree, that's not the kind of person you'd want running the community!enigmawing wrote:Heartless~ I must say I personally enjoyed being a moderator as well, but some of the inconsistencies and lack of support from the site owner that I worked for frustrated the hell out of me. In other news, the forum has been completed! I thought it would require more time but I've been working on it.. I would like to present Disney Mania:

EVERYTHING is subject to change. However, we now have a definitive place where we can go.

This is a bad sign. This is a sign that I won't be welcome at the new forum because you are already using the word appalling in reference to me just because I was being honest with you about how I feel. If you had said "no matter what happens, I will be fair to you Disney Duster and treat you the same as anyone else" then I would have been okay. But your use of words does not make me feel safe about joining the new site.Heartless wrote:To say you wouldn't want me as a moderator when I am offering to create and manage the site is quite appalling to me.
If this causes trouble, so be it, but I am sharing my honest feelings and not trying to appall you, I am trying to come to an understanding. I mean I said I liked you more over time, and you said nothing of that. None of this is making me feel good about a new forum.

I think we are all in agreement in that. I never said I would vote for someone "just because I liked them." What I was suggesting is the type of members I thought would be good at the job, not people "I liked." That's all.Heartless wrote:Enigmawing, your post has summed up everything I had hoped to try to say when it comes to this subject. Btw, I have also served as forum moderator for a large website before (well...I still am one, but the forum kind of died the past year or so...
But I agree that it's not a priority, atm. It was just one of the thoughts I had about a new forum that wasn't run by the same people that UD is run by.

Duster, I do hope you join this new forum, because you are fun to debate with and despite being irksome at times, you come across as pleasant.
EDIT: After getting registering and receiving an e-mail, the website claimed to have one new member (me), but when I tried to post it said that I 'cannot' start new topics or post replies.

I think Heartless might've made it unable to post in most sections because UD is still alive at the moment, and wouldn't want the two forums to compete. Maybe she'll only open those up if this site ends up dying.Dr Frankenollie wrote:EDIT: After getting registering and receiving an e-mail, the website claimed to have one new member (me), but when I tried to post it said that I 'cannot' start new topics or post replies. My username is the same one I use for UD, by the way.
