So dvdjunkie are you just going to ignore the multiple posts that were in response to your claims that The Fox and the Hound's blu-ray transfer has no faults??

At what point do a lot of people reporting similar claims have a valid point? Like, if a few people say the picture looks wonky, then yeah, we can probably assume it's just their copy or player. But when a majority of people here and elsewhere point out problems, when is there an acknowledgment beyond "You're overanalyzing each frame!" or "You're not taking care of your discs!"?

Also, the "blur" is not something you'd have to notice by doing frame by frame analysis. It's not an unsightly out-of-focus mess, but there's easily a noticeable difference between certain scene in "The Fox and the Hound" and, say, "Sleeping Beauty." I'm not going to argue that it's a fault of the restoration because it seems plausible that it's a problem that plagued the source, but that doesn't mean you can't acknowledge it or that anyone who brings it up is just being obsessive. I think we do make it a point to say when Disney does a good job releasing something (witness "Sleeping Beauty" or "The Incredibles"). Likewise, when something seems off, we reserve the right to discuss it.

I've never read anything about cleaning the lens after 20 hours. Its not in my Sony players manual... I just checked, and on the 3rd page it says not to use a cleaning disc in the player at all. That's not to say it probably wouldn't hurt occasionally, but I would not use one after only 20 hours. Way to short in my opinion. If you dust your player, and don't put dirty discs in it to start with it should be ok. If you start having problems reading discs, then try a disc cleaner.

Anyway the transfer of The Fox and the Hound isn't up to "Disney's standards" like previous releases, but its still a decent disc. I'm sure the majority of consumers will find no problem with it, but I wish they had spent more time on it like other classics that have been released on Blu-ray.

I also don't know why they did the 2 disc case design, but that's an easy fix for a few dollars. However a 3 disc case should have been used to start with since the DVDs are not just copies of the movie, but have features that the Blu-ray doesn't have.

I bought the DVD version of the Fox and the Hound 2 movie collection and it looks pretty good to me

I did notice that little incident where Tod's ears aren't painted in after looking at the photo posted earlier. It happens so quickly though that you can barely notice.

Their restorations for me just look like they adjust the contrast lighter for one release then darker for the next which isn't that big of a deal because they can't tweak these films too much or they'd make it a whole new movie.

P.S.
I can see why everyone was complaining about the movie being packaged with The Fox and the Hound 2, it was pretty hard to swallow! I love the sequels i.e. Lion King II, Jungle Book 2.. etc but this film isn't even a sequel but a midquel! I'm not liking the Disney midquels and prequels. They never stay true to the story. This movie really makes it hard to believe the first one would happen. I mean they break up again!? It's cute in its own way and the music is okay but WHOA I understand your complaints!!

Finally got my Fox/Fox2 combo pack from DMC & happily got it in the good packaging with 3 separate hubs for the 3 discs. I was worried since I ordered it in late July (during the 60% off blu ray sale) & it was out of stock until last week. Figured the next batch might be the crappy packaging showing up in stores. Watching Fox 2 now (the lame but beautifully transferred movie) & will watch F&TH later (the great, but blurry as I hear it movie). Just love the way they brag on every blu ray about how much friggin room there is on blu rays for extras & you have to watch all of the features on the dvds since none are ported over. Whoever runs the Disney home video dept. should be shot.

I just picked it up on my way to work (the 9pm-7:30am shift is super long lol), and I plan on watching the DVD's on my laptop. I'm not sure if anyone has commented on the DVD's master, but is it the same as the bluray's or just ported over from the previous DVDs?

Gotta admit after watching F&TH while it isn't as crystal clear perfect as almost every other blu ray, I have no complaints (other than the lack of hi def special features with ALL that space).

the bitrate for both films takes up a lot of space. average is about 30mbps

I agree, I am completely satisfied with this release, and even the "black line" that a lot of people were mentioning wasn't even an issue to me while viewing (I saw it a few times but it didn't distract me).

There have been a few films that have received mediocre/bad Blu-ray reviews that, although I was worried before I bought them, am completely happy with. You'd think I'd learn by now to wait to form my own opinions before taking everyone else's to heart!

my PS3 is fat and the disc drive is a slot. And no, I'm not just "getting used to the picture". I'm always impressed with the sharpness.

Either way, the cleaning disc I have is old.

Do I understand correctly that there is a difference between the version released DMC in June then the one released this month? Like, how it's packaged?

Yes... The DMC version comes in a 3 disc case, and the recent release is a 2 disc case with the DVDs stacked on top of each other.

That's....oddly interesting.....I got mine through DMC months ago....So...now DMC's new gimmick is hey we have better quality packaging than in the stores of the same product....

I wonder if someone ordered one now through the DMC, would it be stacked or a 3 disc case?

I ordered mine from the DMC well after it was first offered & it was out of stock until the day after its nationwide release. I still got the 3 disc good packaging. Plus the code in my Disney Rewards identifies it as a Disney Movie Club-Fox & The Hound 1 & 2 code so they actually have a way of identifying the DMC purchase as opposed to one purchased at any other store. I don't buy from DMC that often & this was just part of a big blu ray order during the 60% off sale so I hope that they don't pull this sh*t on future releases which I almost always get at Best Buy, Wal Mart, Target or Amazon.

the worst bit about them stacking the discs is the movies are, actually, kids films, and most kids dont have a clue about properly handling discs to avoid scratches.

Unfortunately, I, too, received one of the "stacked" cases, but I'm going to switch it out with a replacement 3-disc case. I've ordered a few replacement cases in the past, just in case I receive a damaged case from an online purchase or something.

The Fox and the Hound is packaged in a Viva Elite case, whether it's the stacked version or the 3-disc with tray. You can swap out your stacked case for a 3-disc and the artwork will fit exactly the same, as the "thickness" of each of these cases is identical.

Maybe Disney read all the complaints that most people would throw FatH2 out and just use it as a coaster and thought, "eh, just leave a slot for the first movie"
