Really excited for this release, already sold off my 25th aniv. copy in favor of this release.

Yesterday I was browsin at Fred Meyers and found Rio's Blu on sale for 19.99 instead of 26.99 for an 29.99 item, so hopefuly Fox/Hound will get this sale price

I probably will not get this Tuesday as it is kind of overpriced even with the coupon and with me being out of work, it's hard saving money. I also really do not like the idea of packaging the cheapquels with the classics (honestly, who wants them?). Maybe I will wait until it's a little cheaper.

Also I saw the screencaps on the Blu-Ray review on bluray.com, and is it just me or does Todd look drunk on one of the screencaps for FATH II?

Not to open this can of worms but I have to ask, have we ever settled the aspect ratio debate with this film? the blu ray looks to the unmatted version, which I actually prefer, but I know purest will disagree. For me as long as the animation isn't cut off unmatted looks better.

That's the link I used to make my judgement from actually. It doesnt look bad mind you, there was a lot of detail gained, but also some lost due to the darks being too dark.

The Blu-ray is definitely matted. If you look at the comparisons from that link, you can see that the DVD has a bit more picture at the top and bottom, but the Blu-Ray also has a little more on the sides. I've heard that 1.78:1 is the true aspect ratio, so my guess is Disney went with 1.66:1 so it wouldn't look too cramped.

Yeah, really. It's one of there least popular titles and yet they feel they need less help convincing people to purchase it then something like Beauty and the Beast because they included the DTV sequel that nobody wants? Does that make sense to anyone else?

If this is $10 or less on Black Friday I may pick it up.

Why is "Passing the Baton" not on the Blu Ray? How lame! Blu Ray is better then DVD my foot! I don't get why Disney, who keeps pushing Blu so hard, then does things as lame as that! You'd think if that format is so precocious to them, they do a better job of taking care of it. I may just be keeping my DVD. Why waste the money?

Presumably it was filmed in SD so Disney didn't see the point in putting it on the Blu-Ray and sacrificing space.

Fry's will have this on Blu-ray for $19.99 without coupon. However, I think I'll be picking my copy up at Best Buy because it is much closer that the closest Fry's.

A 7-minute SD extra takes up very little space. The Blu-ray could have fit all four of the DVD-exclusive extras with ease. Likewise, each of the DVDs could have fit the new Unlikely Friends featurette in SD. It's an odd design.

Disney doesn't make sense. Anyone got the specs for the disc (i.e bitrate etc.)

Just saw an unboxing of this release on YouTube, and it looks like its a 2 disc Blu-ray case with both DVDs stacked on top of each other on the left side. TERRIBLE!

Was it like this when it was first released as an exclusive? Or has anyone gotten a 3 disc case with this release at a store?

Bitch! Bitch! Bitch!!! That's all I am reading about this 30th Anniversary release. You guys should all go get jobs at Disney because it sounds like you are all qualified to just that.

I just purchased the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack at Best Buy, and, yes, the DVD's are stacked on the left side with the Blu-ray on the right. If you take care of your discs that should be no problem. Besides if you buy it this way, chances are you aren't going to watch the DVD version anyway, so just quit griping about it and enjoy the fact that you are getting this film released, when it looked like it wasn't even on the schedule a year ago.

Unless you are qualified to get a job at Disney and have applied and interviewed for the job, just quit the whining and enjoy the movie. You probably wouldn't know what aspect ratios are anyway, it just something you read in a book or on the internet, so you are jumping on the bandwagon and waving your flag.

...I think you're allowed to make a complaint about something without being capable of doing something on your own. If they built televisions for 1:33.1 films, and then you had to buy a television to watch your 1:76.1 or your 1:85.1 films, then you would have to have another television to watch your 2:35.1 or 2:40.1 on, it seems very ridiculous to have people griping about what they aren't seeing on their HDTV when they watch a movie that was shot in a certain format. Movie theaters don't show the films in 5 different formats, they show either widescreen (2:35.1, etc.) or matted widescreen (1.85:1, or whatever) so you never get to see the real way the film was shot in the beginning. So that's why I say that it is really stupid to complain about what format a film was shot when you can only see it one or two different ways on your television set, depending on what type of television you have.

That's all that I am saying. We need to be thankful that we get these movies released as often as we do, and accept what is given to us without moaning and groaning about the picture format.

As far as having to watch both DVD and Blu-ray to see the special features, that is not always true in most cases. I am not going to list the titles that do that because it would take a couple of days to list them all and then you would complain that I didn't list one that you might have in your collection. As far as I know, Disney is one of the very few that puts something on the DVD version that isn't on the Blu-ray and in the case of "The Fox and the Hound I & II" there are just short "Making Of" of each film, and a music video. So I wouldn't lose any sleep over having to watch three discs to see three different "Making of" featurettes. And even if you do, taking care of your video discs - be they Blu-ray or standard DVD's - is your responsibility not mine. If you get a scratch on it, that's on you, not me, or anyone else. You just have to learn to take care of things.
