I say at this point they start a new line. Next year marks 10 years since the line began and for almost as long, the first wave has been out of print. It's time to bring the Silly Symphonies, Davy Crockett episodes, and Mickey Mouse shorts out of the vault. The Platinum Line which began the same year is dead and the Diamond Line has taken over. It's time for a new line.

And risk not getting other stuff never before released? See, that is part of the issue here, the same stuff gets released over and over again and before we actually finish something, they scrap it and start all over again, again!

I say, unless that new Blu Ray (as I'd expect that is what it would be) fits EVERYTHING into it, then it is a waste! I'm still waiting for the second "Swamp ox and Elfego Baca."

From what I have heard, something is coming next year anyway for Walt's 110th Birthday. But, it is not known yet what it is.

Thanks again, Milo, for all that you are doing to help keep Walt Disney's film and TV library alive! Just like Walt, don't listen to the naysayers and their common wisdom, keep the dream going...

I hope the rights holders are responsive to your efforts.

Release new stuff too but it's necessary to get Classic Disney shorts back in print. When the Treasures came out they were hardly in print. The Treasures line was not a way to release these classic shorts.

Think about it though, look at the wish lists we all have. Would such a line ever be finished? I hope you're right for something coming out this year. Seeing the Diamond Editions have as many releases as they do and have the shorts only be tagged along as bonus material isn't a way I like to see these shorts treated. I wouldn't even re-release every Disney Treasure. Some of it IMO don't need to be released in such a format (i.e First week of Mickey Mouse club?)

They could release things such as "Swamp ox and Elfego Baca" in non-Treasure like formats. That specific Treasure left me wanting more. I wouldn't want them to "copy and paste" that treasure. I would prefer to see the entire series' come out in some way.

I agree, some of it needs to stay in print, defiantly the shorts. The "limited issue" crap with the Treasures was really dumb, I'd agree with that as well. But as for the idea of getting the full Disney Vault released, before the Warner Archives, I would have said it was only a dream. But since the Warner Archives, Disney has no reason not to except to be dopes. Then again, keeping in mind who we are talking about here... But really, I don't see any reason any more for Disney not to release EVERYTHING, even the first full week of the Mickey Mouse Club, heck, every week of the Mickey Mouse Club!

Every tv show and film had lots of hard working people put their all into what they worked on, and the idea that it just sits there, collecting dust and that people somewhere that may wish to enjoy it can't, is ridicules, and a little insulting to the original cast and crews that worked on the various projects.

Personally, I'd rather Disney releases their full vault more then I want them to re-release films in original wide-screen that have been cropped. Somewhere, at least someone (or someones more realistically) would love to enjoy any number of productions currently collecting dust in the "Disney Vault." I think DVD-on-Demand is the answer for a lot of it. Shout Factory! and things like that may be the answer for other titles.

As for re-releases in Blu Ray, I'd have a hard time seeing everything from the Treasures re-masted in HD, which is why my thinking is that what Blu Ray could do for this issue is create the ability to put far more information on one disc. We could have the entire "El Fago Baca and Swamp Fox" run on fewer discs! Whole cartoon shows on just a few discs. I'm excited by the possibilities.

For the record, I actually enjoyed the first full week of the Mickey Mouse Club. It made me wish I could watch the second. In fact I have to say that what the Disney Treasures did for me was get me interested in the older live actions films and shows from Walt's day, it was some good stuff.

Milo, what about the censored subjects (movies and TV) ? Disney,a company too stuck up to admit that they haven't always been politicly correct, prefer censoring their classics instead of finding a better way to release them uncut, since it's not lucrative enough. Anyway... is there any positive news for what we all sought here ?

thanks to answer

One fight at a time. It will be a miracle if we get "Song of the South." I didn't expect it, but we will be fighting for it along with the other un-released titles.

No news yet, however, I'm three weeks from getting out of my job for the summer (I work at a school right now), and I hope to get even more serious about this and start taking steps off line to get things going. We are still in the "need more people" mode, so that is what I'll be going after.

Spread the word, we aim to open the Disney Vault! How is that for a treasure worthy to search for "Pirates of the Caribbean" fans? :D

***BIG NEWS!!***

Our first victory came today. I've sent a few messages out to various folks in high places and who have worked on the various shows and films we want released, but with no luck. Until today.

I got an e-mail from one Ginny McSwain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginny_McSwain), and she said that she will forward my e-mail to her Disney contact. Now, this may end up being nothing and going no where, but this is the best news we have had on this yet.

Please, if you have not done so already, get your friends and family on here and get those e-mails and phone calls out there! It's starting to get exciting with more excitement to come!

What private message would that be? I haven't seen anything.

To be frank, this is a bigger accomplishment the we've seen so far. Is it the biggest we could yet see? Of course not, but you take what you get and say "Thank you" for it.

Gaining support from people who actually worked on these shows IS a big deal. Gaining the support of thousands of Disney fans who are out there is an even bigger deal. Getting Disney to finally cave and release these titles is the biggest. One step at a time and we'll be at the top if the stairs in no time.

Ok, our fan campaign has a brand new spanking Facebook Fan Page, a Twitter account and, even bigger then those, a new web site! Now people that don't have Facebook can help out! We are still setting a few parts of the site up, so there will be new things on it soon, but for right now, we have tons of new phone numbers, address and fax numbers to use, and links to all kinds of useful things.

November Update

Post by milojthatch »

Hey everyone. For those not already part of Open Vault Disney, I just wanted to share a few bits of news.

One is that we just re-launched our site, so we hope the new site is easier to manage and looks nicer. We still have some more work to do on it, so make sure you come back to it often go see what news and exciting things we'll be adding. That again is just over at openvaultdisney.com.

The next thing and this is a big one, we need all of you and I do mean ALL of you. We have one more letter writing bash this year, and of all the perfect dates to have it on, it will be in a few weeks on December 5. For toughs of you that don't know what is so special about that date, its Walt Disney's birthday. Specifically this year it will be the anniversary of his 110th.

We can't think of a better way to celebrate that then making the case to the Disney Company to release more of the awesome entertainment Walt himself worked on that is currently collecting dust in the Disney vault. So please, if you don't normally write letters, write them this time. Do it for Walt! More info about this can be found on our web site here: http://openvaultdisney.wordpress.com/20 ... ting-bash/

So we are really asking you all to help represent your desire to own more of the great Disney titles of the past and join Open Vault Disney’s campaign. The more of us there are united under the OVD banner, the more Disney will listen to us and the more likely it is that they’ll release the titles we all want to own. As always, thanks guys.

We really hope folks enjoyed the news about the new "Generations Collection" titles being released, and hope each of you might help us with our letter writing event tomorrow.

The hope is there, we just need to run with this. Thanks everyone!
