It'd be a great surprise to get news of Hunchback next, since it too is celebrating an anniversary this year. These first few months of 2011 have been packed with releases and re-releases, but the summer and fall are a bit empty. There's still plenty of room for a few more titles; let's hope for the best!Disneykid wrote:I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Hunchback sooner than later.
The Fox and the Hound - 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray - August 9
Yeah but instead we're going to have to suffer an ugly ass cover that has both logos and promo images on the same cover like the two movies actually complete a whole. This would be understandable for, like, both Rescuers movie, or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh + the upcoming Winnie the Pooh movie, or even The Little Mermaid with Ariel's Beginning. But mygod, WHY The Fox and the Hound 2?Disneykid wrote:The inclusion of the sequel/midquel doesn't bother me. I didnt know it was this year !! Reeeeey !!MJW wrote:It'd be a great surprise to get news of Hunchback next, since it too is celebrating an anniversary this year. Well, for me, all this release means is that there is hope for all the poor, neglected classics gathering dust in the vaut somewhere to have their chance to shine ! Heres hoping for Herc/Hunch/Poca !!!!

I don't think so. The Fox and the Hound is penciled in for September, whereas rumors are pointing to May or June for Dumbo. Let's see what happens. I'd love for them to squeeze in Hunchback and Pooh somewhere this year, too (unless they leave the latter for the 35th anniversary).monorail91 wrote:But does this push Dumbo Blu-ray even further into the future? Good luck waiting. This is probably your best chance until the next release, which may take five more years. I'll take my chances with the sequel.Linden wrote:Well, I'm disappointed. Packaging TFatH AND its sequel? What are they thinking??? Even though it's one of my all time favourites (I seem to be in the minority here), and I don't have it on DVD, much less Blu-ray, I'll pass. I'll just wait until there's an actually decent release of this movie.

It's a catch-22. If we buy this release, it will reinforce Disney's view on this release strategy (classic+sequel(s)= good), and if we don't, then Disney thinks that there isn't a market for lesser Disney titles on Blu-ray. I'd rather have crappy sequels than no DAC's at all. I would love it if the two titles came in separate Blu-ray cases and came housed in a slipcover...that would please everyone I think!!!

I've heard rumors about that, but I can't really see it happening...why would Disney announce a release for September, then surprise everyone with a more upcoming release, in May/June? There's not enough time to build up hype around it, which they are doing a year in advance with Diamond Edition Lady and the Tramp.Disneykid wrote:I don't think so. I wouldn't even mind if it was two separate blu-rays in the same package like Fantasia, cause then I could toss the awful sequel in the trash where it belongs and make a new slip cover and be done with it, but putting both films on the same disc means everytime the menu comes on and asks you to select which feature, I am going to have to be reminded of the abomination's existence EVERYTIME I put the damn thing in the player, regardless of whether or not I watch it. I just don't think I want to put myself through that annoyance. I'd rather settle for standard def with the 25th anniversary dvd.
I'm just treating the sequel as a bonus feature xD Personally I don't care because I couldn't care less about this film (despite really enjoying the climax). Yes it's a concern for other films, but my favourite films are already "guarded" by their diamond status, or incredibly low-popularity which never warranted a sequel
.

Yeah, I agree, and it's a shame. However, I think us "true" fans are in the minority here; I could see parents picking up this title for their kids because of the cute, cuddly critters on the cover, and the fact that they are getting 2 movies to keep their kids occupied sweetens the deal for them. I think a lot of us forget that most non-animation fans don't even know the difference between animation studios and their films in general (Disney's Anastasia, anyone?), let alone theatrical and direct-to-video releases and the difference in quality and integrity between the two.MutantEnemy wrote:It's a catch-22. I think it's too early to tell how this is going to be handled, but I am hoping that the original film is given more prominence in this set and that #2 is second tier. It'd be nice if we get the original/bonus on Blu-ray, a DVD copy of the original, and #2 thrown in on DVD only (maybe just a copy of the last release with new disc art).
The US hasn't even seen a sequel re-release to conincide with Blu-ray releases yet, and to all of a sudden throw a sequel on Blu-ray would be kind of strange...
Unless I missed something, I think everyone is seriously overreacting. The news comes from blu-ray.com, which is technically a "fansite"... If you look on the posting, the original scoop came from someone in Denmark, hence the ".de" at the end of the web address. Now, from what we know about foreign releases, such as beauty and the beast and such, we all know that they have been released in packs with their sequels. My guess? UK exclusive.
If you look at the first post of this thread you will see an insert from the Bambi Blu-ray that confirms this.......nomad2010 wrote:Unless I missed something, I think everyone is seriously overreacting. Actually, the info comes from an advert included in the US (!)-release of Bambi, which was imported by a swedish member of blu-ray.com. I informed the guys from bluray-disc.de (which is btw a German site, Danish domains end with '.dk'), who contacted afterward blu-ray.com.nomad2010 wrote:Unless I missed something, I think everyone is seriously overreacting. Again, the primary source is the picture, taken from the US-advert.

Although, I'm a little shocked and dismayed about these films being packaged together... I don't think any of us should be.
The sequels were made, and as long as Disney has them they are going to be released in some capacity. If I remember correctly, TFatH 2 didn't sell that well when it was first released. Maybe that's why Disney decided to include it with the original. Aside from that, this means they can bump the asking price because we'll all be paying for 2 films instead of just one. In contrast, Bambi 2 and the BatB sequels have sold well on their own. Perhaps Disney thinks that they will sell in the US on blu-ray independently. Maybe a summer release of Bambi 2 and a holiday release of the BatB sequels.
All in all, I'm hoping that FatH 2 is presented as a kind of special feature and that the original film remains the focus as well. It'd be a safe bet that the blu-ray disc will house both films while each of the 2 DVD's will house the films separately though.
Being that Pocahontas is also OOP now, my only wish for this year is that Pocahontas II will not be packaged with it. Then I'll get pissed! At least with FatH 2 the animation is decent!
