I collected all of the 2D Disney films and all sequels (except Tarzan 2) sadly I don't own any Pixar but I'm more into animation for the nostalgia. I've somewhat lost interest in collecting probably because I don't know anyone who collects where I live. I'm still trying to decide whether I should purchase all the classics released on Blu-ray or just upgrade my favorites?

With me it's fairly simple: I only buy those films that interest me. Eventually, I want to own all films in the Classics Canon, minus Dinosaur and everything between Atlantis and Princess and the Frog (with the exception of Lilo & Stitch --yes, it gets complicated here!).

In short: no, I'm not a completist. The only live-action Disney movie I've ever bought is Mary Poppins and I don't plan to ever buy another one. I will only buy missing Classics that I like. I will not 'upgrade' to BluRay. I will not buy any Disney Afternoon DVDs that come out in Holland as long as they're not season sets (they're just loose dvd's).

I am a completionist when it comes to "the 50" I have the vast majority of them but have been waiting in vain for a few of the edited ones to be re-released. Other than that I collect what I like. Having a kid makes it a lot easier as I get to buy them for "him".

I mainly buy my favorites, the ones I like and am most interested in. A lot of those are ones with fantasy, magic, and adventure in them, but it covers other types of films I just happen to like for whatever reason, too.

But then I also buy the ones which seem the biggest, and most prestigious, the ones which so many people consider the best, or at least quite good, and are classics.

I may have bought every Platinum and Diamond if I had the money.

And some films I just have respect for, like Bambi. I love that one more and more I think of it, but honestly, that films is kind of hard for me to watch in parts. But I bought it because it is such a masterpiece of Disney's and just such an important film, period.

So, films like that!

I´m a completist!
I already have all Disney films, animated as well as live-action.
(For me that includes both Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures as well).

If there is a film not available on DVD I keep on to my old VHS, but my dream and hope is that we will see ALL films released either on DVD or BluRay.
I know it will take a long time, but hunting around the world (some films are only released on DVD outside of Europe or US) is great fun.

The fact that I really like a lot of the animated features and other Disney films has made me want to buy a lot of them. However, that's not to say that I am a completist. I've realised that having a large collection can be hindering as it means that a lot of stuff lies dormant and unwatched, ultimately a waste of space and resources. Here's how I would describe my buying habits:

1. I've put off buying things that I'm not the hugest fan of, or things that I know I wouldn't watch very often. I've generally kept myself to strict categories as well: Disney animated features, Pixar films, animated shorts and a few live-action films. I don't have any direct-to-video sequels, and the only TV-on-DVD stuff I have from Disney are the first volumes of Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers and DuckTales. I've also cleared out stuff that I don't watch any more (Disney or otherwise).

2. I've put off buying things knowing/hoping that a new, better edition would come, or feeling that the current edition is completely and utterly redundant. The Platinums are examples of this; I was really tempted to fork out money for a Limited Issue copy of The Little Mermaid, but decided to just stick with the VHS until the new DVD arrived. I also tried for a long time to stop myself from buying The Hunchback of Notre Dame in the hope that a better edition would come, but in early 2009, I basically just threw in the towel and got it, confident that it wasn't going to be re-released for some time (and so far, it appears I'm right). Oh, and I've not bought Saludos Amigos or Make Mine Music due to the awful edits.

3. I'm wary of simply "upgrading" things for the sake of it, especially with many of the needless re-releases. As an example, I bought the original Region 2 editions of Robin Hood, The Aristocats and The Sword in the Stone, which are quite similar to the US Gold Collection editions, and opted not to buy the re-releases from a few years ago as they didn't really offer anything worth upgrading, despite my love for the film. Equally, I didn't buy the 45th Anniversary Edition of Mary Poppins and the Un-Anniversary Edition of Alice in Wonderland.

4. I often just buy things reduced. Many DVDs in the UK get reduced in the summer and winter sales, and there are countless offers like Buy-One-Get-One-Free and 2 for £20. It may mean that I have to wait a bit to buy things, but it's arguably worth it. Equally, I started really buying a lot of the mid-range animated classics when they got regularly reduced at various outlets, having originally all been priced at around £15-20. I don't think I'd have bought things like Fun and Fancy Free and The Rescuers Down Under had I found them for more than £8.

I am definitely selective when it comes to buying dvds just because it's Disney doesn't mean I am going to buy it, I only buy things if I know I will end up watching them more then once and they are movies I really like if not what's the point in shelling out the money to buy it just add it to my Netflix que.

As a kid/teen I would ask for specific vhs movies. Only my favorites were included. But I really wanted to have every Disney movie that I liked. We just didn't buy a lot of movies.

Now as an adult I don't collect any of them. I figure that I can rent or borrow any of the DVDs out there and there is no reason to own them.

On the other hand, if I love a movie I often make a folder and find all the screen caps I can of it and save them. So I may have a collection of stills, but not the movie itself.

Bit of a completist when it comes to the animated classics and Pixar, but, I did get rid of most of my collection on DVD in anticipation of Blu Ray releases. I have digital copies of some of my favourites, and will be repurchasing them on Blu Ray and deleting the digital copies as they become available.

As far as live action, generally buy what I enjoy, although there have been a couple I've got free through Disney Movie Rewards, such as the Hannah Montana Movie (which I actually thought was better than expected), and Underdog (which I thought was pretty dire).

I am definitely a completist. I have all 49 DACs. When it comes to double dipping, I make the decision based on the ultimatedisney review. So I have 2 copies of The Black Cauldron, Dumbo, Aristocats, Robin Hood, and others.

When it comes to live-action, I started by buying all the live-action features made by Walt. I own all the available titles (Almost Angels and Sword and the Rose are on the way). I used to only buy the post-Walt - pre-1980s titles I really liked...now I have begun to collect those as well. I buy newer Disney titles that I really like. I hope to never become so obsessive that I buy all the newer titles. Not sure what I would do with a Hannah Montana movie, ugh.

I have a few Disney Treasures, usually only something I was really interested in. There are a few I missed and now regret. I have Zorro in color and b & w. I prefer the b & w's. Treasures like Elfago Baca were only worth checking out at the library...if they released a full set I would be more interested.

Oh yeah, I also buy the movies Walt made that were released in Europe, like Hans Brinker and The Horse Without a Head. And I buy the Pixar films, although I rarely actually watch them...I prefer Disney.

The reason I can afford this is that I rarely buy any non-Disney film.

Half and half.

I plan to own all of the DAC eventually, 95% of them I enjoy and will watch multiple times, and I figure I might as well round out the collection with the few I don't care for that much.

I am a completist on the Treasures, I have all of them (and True Life) except the Zorros. :( Part of this is the line itself, part is being a completist on the cartoon shorts, or the serials/anthology show episodes.

I am an anti-completist on the sequels, I refuse to buy or watch any of them. :P

Pixar and Ghibli are auto-completes for me, I love every film from both studios.

I haven't yet watched a pre-80s live action that I disliked (especially comedies), and the same goes for many of the modern big-budget theatrical releases - PotC, National Treasure, etc. Stuff like some of the Disney Channel Movies, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, etc. aren't my cup of tea.

With regards to the DACs and Pixars, I'm a completist. I still need Make Mine Music, and of course Tangled when it is released.

And as for live action, I'm selective.

Interesting topic idea.

To me, when it comes to collecting Disney, its just about the classics (including Mary Poppins). And not even all the classics. Just the ones that I;ve liked, which means some of them, like the anthology features, and most films made between 1970 and 1988 I don't own, nor am i interested in owning.

As far as the ones I do want...some of them I don't have yet, mainly because I don't think they have received a good release (hercules...hunchback) yet. I admit I have double dipped, but that is only when there was a huge leap in quality or a big difference in bonus features (sleeping B., 101D).

When it comes to Pixar and live action films...pretty much only the ones I like and have good bonus features (which I do watch!)

I would say I'm ALMOST a completist. I have nearly all the Animated Classics and intend to complete my collection of those without a doubt. Am not too bothered about cartoon shorts but may pick up the odd collection if it's really cheap. As for the live action films, I'm a little more selective, mainly going for the classics [Mary Poppins, Old Yeller etc.] and ones I personally like or find interesting [Darby O Dill, The Black Hole].

selective

movies like emperor's new groove and chicken little will NEVER be added to my shelves.

And I only bought the Aladdin Platinum Edition years ago on Black Friday cause at Shopko it was like $11.99 before 12 PM or something. When it comes to blu, I will NOT buy it. Same with Lion King.

I didn't buy Ratatoiule, but my dad bought a dvd of it at least a year after its initial release, and I took the DMR points (I can also watch it now without being bored, when it airs on Disney Channel). I didn't buy 'UP' and will NEVER buy it. I liked Wall=E when I saw it in the theater, but I don't care for it now, so it probably will never get added. I HATED the ending of At World's End, so that will never touch my shelves either.

On the other hand, if Walt Disney Company went nuts and actually released SONG OF THE SOUTH, which I have NOT seen since I was seven years old, I would buy it in an instant!

I only really buy the movies I love and a few I hadn't seen before (For example, the live action Treasure Island with Bobby Driscroll, I had rented it on DVD. and my dad and I had tried to watch it. Well, the rented one was somewhat damaged (it skipped and stuff). So, on my birthday I bought the DVD. I did the same with Ugly Dauschand. I like a lot of the live action ones and if I have at least been able to rent them and like them, I'll watch it. In fact, I need to figure out where my copy of That Darn Cat with Haley Mills went....I had rented that and loved it so I bought it in the past month or two.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I'm a Selective Completist, I would like to own all 50 of the DAC Cannon...there are only 4 movies that I do not have in my collection (5 if you count Tangled but I don't have that due to obvious not being released on Blu ray combo yet)

The Four I am Missing from all 50 movies are

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

Melody Time

Make Mine Music

The Rescuers....(which is one i've been wanting to get but bills and all...I might get it next month through DMC....)

Though when it comes to the live action movies....i'd say selective...very selective

I collect all DACs, Pixar films, and Studio Ghibli films. I also am collecting the Disney-owned ImageMover Digital's films, as well as some other films (Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). Also, any live-action Disney film containing hand-drawn animation.

I tend to be completist when it comes to DACS. Yet I don't hurry to get the films I'm not particularly fond of (some I may obtain through airmiles, or two DACS for the price of one actions)I don't buy dtv-sequels and I'm absolutely selective when it comes to life-action.

I have bought all Pixar movies (including a collection of shorts) except for Cars

I own most of the DAC on VHS which I've had since I was a kid, from Snow White to The Emperor's New Groove. Although I think some of them have begun to deteriorate over time(I tried to play Hercules for my niece and nephew, and every time I pressed play the picture would start getting fuzzy). I even have the 1993 20th Century Fox VHS of My Neighbor Totoro.
Now as an adult, I'm very selective about which movies to get for myself and/or to play for my niece and nephews whenever they visit. I do have most of the same movies on DVD though, along with Lilo and Stitch, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, A Goofy Movie, and almost all of the Pixar and Studio Ghibli films. I only have a few live-action Disney films, such as Mary Poppins, the PotC films and Enchanted.

I'm really debating whether to get rid of my VHS collection or not...

The only DAC I think I don't have in my collection, VHS or DVD, are:

Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Fantasia 2000
Dinosaur
Treasure Planet
Home on the Range
Chicken Little
Meet the Robinsons
Bolt

I'm not a completist, but if I really loved a certain movie, I'd get it. Most of the movies on this list I've either never seen or just didn't care for that I can catch on TV. Although I am considering to get Fantasia 2000.
