Can't contain anger!

DVDTimes wrote:We're getting reports that the reissued UK and Australian release of Back to the Future III suffers from a new mastering issue. The new disc appears to suffer from poor picture quality during the playback from layer one of the disc. The screengrabs below illustrate this problem. We have included shots from the Region 1 release for comparison purposes.
I noticed this when I got my copy (didn't know layer 2 was unaffected though) and posted a question on the Home Theater Forum Regional DVD forum (but got no answer, unsurprising when you consider what a ghetto that board is :()

I consider myself to be one of the main fighters in order to get the replacements offered to R2 purchases (10+ phone calls, 15+ emails - no answers to any - and lots letters and mails to DVD media companies and publications in the UK later) and what do we end up with - another botch job from Universal UK.

Sod them!

Yes -- that does suck... worse than the whole thing that happened over here in the U.S. Dang... go sue them... ;) or just import the R1, if you can... But 10+ calls... WOW!

Don't forget we only got our replacements at the start of this week, despite the fact it was released in the UK first (and months earlier even still in Australia).

What angered me the most is Universal knew the discs were bad before the R1 copies were pressed. I personally informed Universal myself after the Australian release. If they choose to ignore legitimate concerns then they deserved everything they got. And Universal started the R1 returns procedure before the R1 copies were officially on sale!

Meanwhile UK customers had to beg and plead for equal treatment and only mean stoney silence, and when that failed had to get popular publications to embarass Universal into treating us the same as America.

And as you can see, their heart wasn't in it. And they haven't corrected the sound faults in part II

And don't get me started on the UK E.T. debarcle...

It's annoying, for sure. But I've just grinned and beared it. II and III both look fine to me (well III looks like crap, but that's the movie ;)), outside of the couple of frames that were widely-posted to show the framing problems. I'm glad I didn't wait half a year for replacements only to be plagued by a different set of problems.

Sorry, that sucks. :(

Universal really needs to get their act together. They went from one of the first and best DVD studios to total crap.

urgg! I was really mad when "to be continued..." was cut out of the first one. I think that is one of thge best parts of the film! And it left the ending kinda cut short, yet it was at the end of the secong one. :?

Apparently, it was added for home video release. In any event, I do prefer it in the film as that's the way I've always seen it. But what bothers me more is the preview for Part III crap that comes at the end of II. What I do is as soon as it says "To Be Concluded..." I do a chapter skip and voila, it's gone. I don't pretend that Part III doesn't exist...I would just much rather not taint the "heavy" ending of Part II with that crappy Western mishmash.

Too be honest Luke, Part III is my favorite film of the trilogy. Still, we're all different eh?

We'll I don't mind Part III, Part II is my favorite, but I agree with Luke, that the preview is unneccessary, especially since PartIII is right next to PartII in the box. I think they should have kept "To be continued at the end of part I, and cut the preview for Part III, from part II. Anyway, what they did to part I, is an example of the evil revisionist filmaking, because they hurt the film in MO, and I just got rid off my BTTF vhs trilogy, so can't see it there. I gues it is no big deal, but still bothers me whenever I watch the DVD  .

:o I don't know how that's possible. There's hardly any...time-travel. Or comedy really. It's almost straight-forward Western and Michael J. Fox playing a bunch of Irish settlers. ZZ Top? Plus the Doc/Clara romance...ugh!

But you're right we're all different...and I'll stop trashing it cause you like it.

Well, it doesn't really need any Time Travel as the fact that they are there for the founding of Hill Valley is good enough. And it's contains lots of in-jokes and pay-offs for Part II. In some respects Part II only exists to set the stage for Part III. The Doc/Clara love thing does go on a bit, but I like the character of Clara enormously. Plus it has the cool credits music where the Back to the Future theme is played in a "Western" style. But ultimately its all about Marty and Doc's friendship, which is the heart of the series.

I really think it is a perfect ending to the trilogy - perhaps the best ending to a filmic trilogy ever.

That's why I'm so pissed Universal UK has mucked it up. Will we get a second repressing for the PAL release?

Yay!
DVDReviewer wrote:Following the realisation that the region 2 replacement discs for the re-framing errors of Back to the Future Part III featured contrast problems, the good news is that Universal Pictures Video have started issuing replacements for this last disc, now in version 3. Fingers crossed that whoever signed off on this latest attempt to rectify problems actually has a pair of eyes to check it with. Thanks again to Richard Walledge for letting us know.
Looks Like I may be getting a second replacement!

It's a good thing it's only taken them a year to fix the Region 2 releases...after waiting five years to release them to DVD.

Well, today my Second BTTF III replacement arrived (making it Universal's third attempt at authoring the DVD). Let's hope this one is OK. After all, it's only taken a year for them to [hopefully] put out the product correctly.
