7th Annual UltimateDisney/DVDizzy Forum Awards

Post by Escapay »

Hi, and welcome to the 7th Annual UltimateDisney.com / DVDizzy.com Forum, Website & Member Awards!

Over the last six years, these awards have become something of a tradition here. We've had a lot of fun with them and this year sees a couple minor changes. The nomination process was moved from the summer to the fall, thus turning "of the year" into "of the year and a few months." It does give forum members a bit more content to consider when making nominations, but hopefully is for the better! And if you haven't noticed, this will be the first UD Forum Awards to be hosted not by Aaron "AwallaceUNC" Wallace, but by Albert "Escapay" Gutierrez! This year, he has passed hosting duties on to me, and I sincerely hope I can be as great a host as he has been since the Forum Awards began in 2004. The Annual UD Forum Awards are a chance for all the posters here to recognize each other's contributions to the always-fun, always-informative community that is the Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy Forum.

The rules are simple and are the same as last year's. You may submit up to FIVE nominations in each of the categories that appear below. Nominations must be emailed to udforumawards@gmail.com to be valid - no PMs accepted. Please make "7th Annual UD Forum Nominations" your subject line. You may not nominate yourself for anything, nor can you nominate a thread/review/idea that you authored. Of course, past winners may be nominated and win again. For those of you concerned, I won't be scrutinizing your nominations and your submissions will be kept completely secret.

Remember, the intention here is not to pit anyone against anyone else or hurt anyone's feelings. There are a LOT of people participating and only a few can be nominated and even fewer can win. You never know how many votes may have come in for you! Play nice and remember that it's all in good fun. So please, no hurt feelings. :)

Important: "Of The Year" is defined as 6/1/09 - 9/30/10. Only reviews/threads/topics/etc. posted in that time frame are eligible. I'm aware that such high-profile threads/reviews came before and after the eligibility period, but I cannot make any exceptions, I'm sorry.

Everyone is encouraged to put a lot of thought into this and consider more than just the last month or two.

Please do not post anything about who/what you are nominating in this thread. We want to keep things mysterious.

After they have been sent and tabulated, the official nominations will be posted in Off-Topic for you to vote on. The number of final nominees selected for each category will vary, depending on the numbers received, though the goal is always 3-5 for each (not always possible).

This year, the ceremony will take place all within one night or week, rather than spread out over several weeks as has been done in the past. That should again help to alleviate some of the silliness that has marred the ceremony in the past.

And now with all that out of the way, let's get started...

• Mike Judge, writer/director of Extract, Office Space; "King of the Hill" and "Beavis and Butt-Head" creator (December 2009)

• "A Salute to Disney's Halloween Television Specials" by Aaron Willcott (October 2009)
• "The Great Best Picture Oscars Project" by Luke Bonanno (April 2010)

**There may also be at least one honorary award given to a member in a special category. You may submit any ideas, suggestions, or nominations for this as well. (This category may be different than last year's, though the same person is still eligible)**

This might be a tad confusing, so let me know if you have any questions. :)

It's October 1, so I updated the first post from "Watch This Space!" to the intended topic. :)

It's kind of sad to step away as host, having been so involved with these awards for so many years now, but I just don't have the time for them anymore. I'd hate to see them die so I'm very happy that Escapay has stepped up to the plate to take over the reigns. I can't think of anyone better. Thanks, Scaps!

I'll be sending in my noms soon!

You're welcome, Aaron! I'm glad to do it. Your shoes are a bit big on me, though. Oh well, that's what newspaper is for! :P

And Sunny Wing, I love that picture!

I have a question:

What's the difference between an 'Ultimate Disney'-review and a 'DVDizzy-review'? I thought it was supposed to be one site?

Oh, also: do you have to sent in nominations for all categories? (For example, I generally don't read 'TV on DVD'-reviews.)

i think "Ultimate Disney Review" is for the Disney DVDs, while "DVDizzy Review" is for all the others.

I have this problem as well. I too assumed it was for Disney reviews but I should have asked rather than ignore it.

As ajmrowland and pap64 already said, an UltimateDisney.com review is for Disney DVDs (and by extension, Pixar, Touchstone, & Miramax), and DVDizzy.com review is for non-Disney DVDs (e.g. from studios like 20th Century Fox, Criterion, Lionsgate, etc.). "Blu-Ray Review of the Year" encompasses both Disney and Non-Disney.

In the past, it was simply "Site DVD Review of the Year" and Disney DVDs primarily were the majority of the nominees, even in years when DVDizzy existed (2007, 2008 ). It was split into UltimateDisney & DVDizzy last year. For a bit of Forum Awards trivia, the first non-Disney DVD Review to be nominated was Dreamgirls: Showstopper Edition in 2007.

No, just the categories you want to make nominations for.

Could we also nominate less than 5 in each category?

While we're on the same subject, or at least a similar one, what is going to happen to the movie awards for this, Aaron?

Yes. So long as there aren't more than five nominees per category.

Aaron said he'd still be doing the movie awards, though I don't know when he'll start them.

Escapay, how come we need to provide a description of the avatar we're nominating and not for the signature too?

Also, regarding the Fantasia DVD & Blu-ray thread, which was created on the 31st of May 2009 and continues to be active, will it be considered eligible for a nomination? I know that you've said the 'Of the Year' means from 6/1/09 - 9/30/10 but it seems unfair for it to be excluded by a few hours when it was one of the most prominent threads of the year...

One more thing, is the review for BatB: Diamond Edition which was posted on the 1st of October 2010, eligible or not?
