I'm still not sure if I'll be picking this one up.

Does anyone happen to know if there will be any coupons available for the combo pack?

I was just reading the e-mail from DMR and it mentions something about $10. It doesn't seem to be a $10 off coupon. Is this a rebate or something?

Now...
Who's gonna show us their Futterwacken? :D

AiW grossed another 20 million last week(end) at the box-office for a total of 980,5 million $, and sixth highest grossing film. Beaten out this week are POTC 3 and Harry Potter I. Only 20 million away from The Dark Knight.

The success of Alice is probably also the reason lots of live-action remakes (or re-imaginings) of popular animated films are coming out all of a sudden. Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty (well Maleficent, but still), even Cinderella. The Sorcerer's Apprentice too I guess, but that one was already in the works before Alice was even out. This is a potential goldmine for Disney, which I'm sure they already know. I always wanted a stop-motion Pinocchio film, that would be SO awesome.

High-Def digest gave a review, though they're beginning to lose credibility.

the dvd is out in southeast asia. retaining the 3 said features for the dvd. it felt kinda cheap having a movie out so early on home video. the BD might come in a week or two. i wish disney had released this in 3d as its premiere 3d bd, not xmas carol instead.

It's bizarre to see how much has happened throughout this thread. Over the weekend I read through it, looking back at all my wild speculation at whatever leaked info emerged. I don't think I've ever followed a film this closely before. The Harry Potter and Narnia films come awfully dang close, but with Alice, I collected every photo, saved every video clip, screencapped every film frame, and read the first draft of the screenplay and the concurrently-released books.

Now it all ends with my BD review. It's been a fun journey, and even if the film didn't meet my expectations, I still enjoy it for what it is. I probably won't be this obsessive over a new Disney film again, though if Oz: The Great and Powerful gets made, you'll be seeing me an awful lot in that thread.

So, lest the 3-D release ends up being something noteworthy enough for me to bump this, I think I'm done with this thread. It's good timing, anyway, since the day my review gets posted is also the day Alice crosses the one billion mark worldwide. Congrats and fairfarren!

Is Alice's short window from theatrical release to Blu-ray/DVD a record for a major Hollywood movie? It was at least three months for TPATF.

Disney’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND Becomes the Sixth Film Ever to Surpass $1 Billion Worldwide
With a domestic take of $332 million and an international gross of $667 million, the Disney flick has become only the sixth film ever to amass more than $1 billion worldwide, joining Avatar, Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and The Dark Knight.

Johnny Depp

I think it's gotta be the Johnny Depp factor--at least in large part. Alice in Wonderland and POTC: Dead Man's Chest are Disney's 2 highest-grossing films in history, both starring Depp. Coincidence??

I just got my copy in the mail. Pleasantly surprised since it wasn't supposed to come out 'till the second of june. :) Too bad every version of the Alice in Wonderland blu-ray outside of the US only has the three special features the US dvd has. Though I guess since all of them are also on the internet, I can just access them with BD Live. Was hoping for a little more than just mini-documentaries, but alas. It's surely going to get milked to death with re-releases in the future.

Will watch it this weekend.

So promoting Depp in every trailer, poster and whatever paid off for Disney in the end.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Post by Disney Duster »

Is this where I should talke about the review?

Fantastic review agan Kelvin. I think you nailed a lot of what truly is why this film wasn't what it should have been. And you know, even people who didn't observe the film as closely as you did were disappointed, so there's more objectivity proving it didn't deliver.

Did you really screencap every film frame? Or just a frame from each scene or something? Did you have some automatic screencap every frame program?

What's fairfarren?

Aaaaaaand...I will probably be acting the same as you did towards the live-action Maleficent and, most of all, Cinderella. Would you tell me how I might discover the screenplay drafts (or other hard to find secret images or things) for those...?

Thanks, Mike!

I guess I should've clarified. I didn't screencap every frame, just a frame from every shot. So every trailer, TV spot, featurette, and film clip that came out, I'd take a cap of each shot I found. I did this by saving the videos off of YouTube (using the sites SaveTube and Keep-Tube). Then I opened the videos up on Quicktime, found the exact frames I wanted to cap, then went to "file" and "copy." I'd paste the caps in Paint and save them as jpgs.

I saved them all in a file folder and arranged them in chronological order the best I could to get a good idea of the whole film. I ended up with 341 caps. I was tempted to take the shots and lines from all the videos and edit them together chronologically into a super trailer/mini movie, but I figured it was too much work. I've seen it done to good effect with other films like Prince Caspian and Watchmen.

I also saved every promotional image released (concept art, production stills, portraits, etc.). I ended up with a sizable collection of stills, but almost all of them appear in my nifty Visual Companion book, so I'll probably delete them all. It's sad that I learn more about the film from that book than I do from watching the BD supplements.

Fairfarren is Outlandish for "Good-bye." Outlandish is the language the Hatter speaks besides English, most notably heard when he starts raving at the Cheshire Cat. He whispers it to Alice when they say goodbye, but because he only says it briefly one other time (at the end of the tea party), everyone I watch it with asks what he's whispering to her.

And I just got really, really lucky with the Alice screenplay. I visited imdb's board for the film every day, and one day someone was willing to give out the first 32 pages, asking nothing in return. I sprang at the chance, and later, someone else did the same thing for the entire script. I don't know how it ended up online. Apparently screenplays get leaked all the time, but 9 times out of 10, whoever has it is only willing to give it up if you've got another screenplay to trade. I just got lucky that the people holding Alice were just really generous. IMDb is definitely the place to go to keep an eye out for those, though.

Have you watched the animated Alice, yet?
