From the article-
I wikipedia'd "The Switch"... Sounds like The Back-Up Plan, and the only reason I'm interested in that is because I'm a sucker for a Jennifer Lopez comedy..
I wikipedia'd "The Tempest", too, and apparently Prospero is Prospera and played by Helen Mirren. This could be very good, or horribly bad...
I don't know much about Gnomeo and Juliet, I'll have to research that one.

What the heck is Gnomeo and Juliet? I thought that wasn't even really Disney. Or is it "Disney" the same way The Wild is "Disney?"
Anyway.... No Yellow Submarine? What? I LOVE me some Yellow Submarine re-make. I've been looking forward to it!
No interest in anything live-action.
Looking forward to Tangled, Brave, and the Pixar sequels.
Funny story about Winnie the Pooh. Usually, when I tell my friend about upcoming Disney films, she finds something to complain about. And Pooh is her favorite Disney movie of all time. So I told her about this one, and you should have seen the look of joy and wonderment on her face. She literally went "Squee! More Pooh! Although they ought to name it "The House on Pooh Corner!""
(I'm pretty excited for it myself!)

Is that Gnomeo or K-Fed in some kind of sick joke of CGI animation

disneyboy...
Maybe I enjoyed it more than I should--I just don't like KF. But I thought Gnomeo and Juliet was canceled a very long time ago? Like, a year and a half ago?
Anyway, what a depressing wreck the next 2 years look to be. Everything is either a sequel (WtP, PotC4), based on some other property (Marvel, Henson, Pixar), or crap (Tangled). The only things I feel even the slightest excitement for--and that's subdued--are Brave, Toy Story 3, and Winnie the Pooh. Edit: And the Muppets! Can't believe I forgot that...
No matter how good Monsters, Inc. 2 turns out to be (and it likely will be good), it will never feel right. MI does not need, deserve, or justify a sequel. I'm sure I'll have to obliviate it from my memory the moment I've seen it. And Cars sucked the first go round--why would I want to see another?

Wow, those look really bad, even for CGI (Especially the first picturerobster16 wrote:Not if it looks anything like this early test render for the movie:sotiris2006 wrote:Isn't anyone surprised (or perhaps exited) that Gnomeo and Juliet is finally set for release in 2011?

Although I am a huge fan of Pixar, I am still not so sure of the idea of Monsters Inc. 2. I thought the original film ended on a good note and I am not really sure what else they can tell in order to make it as good as the first film (The same thing goes for Cars 2).
The Muppet film may be good, if they do it right (No CGI, a good story, appropriate cameos)
Everything else I have no comment on at the moment.
How can you possibly say that Tangled is crap? Sure, there are some stupid things going on with its production and advertising, but everything we've heard from anyone that has seen any part of the movie says it's a great movie with outstanding animation. Sure, we don't like name. But that's no reason to call the movie crap. Certainly not yet.Disney's Divinity wrote:Anyway, what a depressing wreck the next 2 years look to be. Gnomeo and Juliet has been in development hell for pretty much the past decade. It was a coproduction between Disney and Elton John's film company (Rocket Films). The following Jim Hill articles essentially detail what was going on, at least circa 2006 when it moved away from WDAS...Margos wrote:What the heck is Gnomeo and Juliet? I thought that wasn't even really Disney. Or is it "Disney" the same way The Wild is "Disney?
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... /1760.aspxOn March 28th 2006, Jim Hill wrote:Of course, that was before John Lasseter and Ed Catmull began shutting down WDFA projects and/or requesting that films that were within inches of being completed now be radically reworked.
Case in point: "Gnomeo & Juliet." Production of this CG fantasy (Which detailed the comical misadventures of two English lawn gnomes who fall in love) had been shut down once before. However, once Sir Elton John agreed to give Disney access to his entire song catalog (Thereby allowing the film-makers to build key moments of this still-in-development motion picture around such memorable John songs as "Tiny Dancer," "I'm Still Standing" and "Candle in the Wind"), this Rocket Pictures co-production was then put back on the fast track.
In fact, WDFA had tentatively pencilled "Gnomeo & Juliet" in as one of Walt Disney Pictures' big releases for 2008 ... Until John Lasseter & Ed Catmull recently took a look at that film's story reels and said ...
Well, here. Steve Hulett over on the Animation Guild's blog tells this story so much better than I could. Which is why I'll let Steve now finish out this particular animation anecdote:
A well-known Pixar executive asked last week at a meeting: "Why are we making this?"
After a long silence (SFX: crickets), the exec said "Well, we're not."
And -- with that -- "Gnomeo & Juliet" was dead in the water yet again.
Mind you, the news that Lasseter & Catmull had killed "G & J" absolutely infuriated the folks over at Walt Disney Records. Given that this proposed film's score was supposed to have featured the greatest collection of Elton John songs ever assembled ... Well, the soundtrack of "Gnomeo & Juliet" was virtually guaranteed to have been a best seller. Easily going double, triple, maybe even quadruple platinum.
But the brouhaha that erupted over "G & J" 's cancellation eventually paled in comparison to what happened when Ed & John finally got back to the folks at WDFA about what they thought of "Meet the Robinsons."
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... /1993.aspxOn April 20th 2006, Jim Hill wrote:Actually, no. Ever since John Lasseter & Ed Catmull pulled the plug on this whimsical reimagining of Shakespeare's tragic romance back in March, a lot of people at the Walt Disney Company had been working frantically behind-the-scenes in an effort to resurrect "Gnomeo." Trying to find a way to still get this film produced by the Mouse and yet not offend the new heads of WDFA.
You see, that's one of the hard & fast rules in Hollywood, folks. You're never ever allowed to embarass your new boss. Make them look bad in any way, particularly during their first couple of weeks on the job.
And yet here were John & Ed shutting down production of "Gnomeo." Insisting that this musical fantasy was a poor fit for Walt Disney Pictures. That the film's core concept wasn't strong enough to support a 90-minute-long animated feature. More importantly, that its proposed mixture of elements (Cement lawn gnomes belting out classic Elton John songs in an English garden setting) would have little if any appeal to children.
Meanwhile, you had these Disney executives who were visibly despairing when word got out that "Gnomeo & Juliet" had been cancelled. Why for? Because of all the money that the Mouse was going to miss out because production of this motion picture had been shut down.
The folks over at Walt Disney Records particularly had a fit when they learned that Lasseter & Catmull had killed off "Gnomeo." You see, they had visions of releasing a "Gnomeo & Juliet" soundtrack album (Which was to have mixed a few new songs that Elton John & Tim Rice had written in with some classic tunes from the Elton John song catalog) which would have gone quadruple platinum.
So these folks reportedly went to Dick Cook, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios, and then asked Dick if he could go talk to John & Ed. But given that the Pixar acquisition deal hadn't actually been completed yet, Cook didn't want to appear as if he was already second-guessing Lasseter & Catmull's decisions.
But that said, Dick -- like so many other folks at Disney -- saw the real commercial possiblities in "Gnomeo." Okay, sure. This proposed CG animated feature may have had limited appeal to kids. But to these children's parents -- who grew listening to "Crocodile Rock," "Candle in the Wind" and "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting) " -- this project was sure to have plenty of appeal.
So finally a decision was made to resurrect "Gnomeo & Juliet." To push forward with this production. But then came the hard part: How to break this news to Lasseter & Catmull?
In the end, it was decided that the Disney execs should just try & sell these Pixar vets on the idea that -- by producing this CG feature through the studio's Miramax division -- "Gnomeo & Juliet" no longer had to be family-friendly. That the film could now be quirkier, crazier, edgier. Which would (hopefully) then make this project that much more appealing to teens & adults.
To hammer home this particular point to Ed & John, the Disney execs who were now in charge of "Gnomeo" reportedly talked about how excited they were about finally being able to use one of Elton John's biggest hits, "The B*tch is Back," as part of the film's soundtrack. Previously, this 1974 hit had been kept off of the approved list of songs that could be used in the Disney version of this film because ... Well, obviously, you can't use the word "b*tch" in a G-rated Walt Disney Pictures release.
But in a PG-rated Miramax Pictures release ... Hell, you can sing "The B*tch is Back" at the top of your lungs for the entire 90-minute running time of the film, if you want. Though -- to be honest -- I don't actually think that that's the plan here.
Anyway ... "Gnomeo & Juliet" will now be produced in London under the watchful eye of veretan animation producer Baker Bloodworth. Who's probably best known (to Disneyana fans, anyway) for his work on "Beauty and the Beast" and "Dinosaur."
And -- after all of this pre-production drama -- Disney Studio execs are hoping that "Gnomeo & Juliet" will be a hit. But not so big a hit that Lasseter & Catmull will now look like chumps for insisting that the Mouse not make this movie.

Sorry, but everything I've seen of Tangled thus far (clips, story details, casting, Rapunzel's design, etc.) has not looked remotely interesting. And I hardly take the words of the people making (and attempting to sell) their movie as "good" seriously. I think I will pick up Menken's soundtrack, but I definitely won't be supporting the movie by seeing it in theaters or buying it on DVD/Blu-Ray though.SWillie! wrote:

Some things you don't have to experience to know they won't be good. I didn't have to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua to know it wouldn't be winning any Oscars. I didn't have to read Bridget Jones' Diary to know it wasn't worth the time. And I don't have to buy a Miley Cyrus CD to know the music that Disney's peddled under her name sucks. I don't say that to sound snobbish--I'm willing to give most things the benefit of the doubt--but some things are just instinctual.
Can't wait until Tangled's over and done with, so the world, and Disney, can move on to better things (and I don't have to argue with everyone who thinks it's all sunshine and rainbows--though it is, I suppose, if the merchandise is anything to go by;

I don't understand this point of view coming from someone who is a big enough Disney fan to post as often as you do on a Disney forum.Disney's Divinity wrote:Sorry, but everything I've seen of Tangled thus far (clips, story details, casting, Rapunzel's design, etc.) has not looked remotely interesting. I can understand that you're not excited about it at the moment. With the exception of what you said about Rapunzel's design, I agree that pretty much everything we've heard so far has been bland. (However the one rendered picture that we have, in my opinion, looks stunning.)
But the thing is, how much do we really have so far? Two (three if you count Pascal) character designs, a teaser trailer that really tells us nothing except the animation looks great, some extremely minor plot details, a rough leaked trailer that we've been told does not show the movie in the correct light, and the cast list of the major characters.
That's it.
To have already put aside the movie in your mind based on only those details... that doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see the comparison between this and a movie like Beverly Hills Chihuahua whatsoever. That movie was made for a quick buck. They weren't trying to "win any Oscars." On the other hand, hundreds of artists and other creative people have been hard at work on Rapunzel for a few years now, and has been in various stages of development for a decade. To compare the two based on what we've seen of Tangled so far is not fair.
If we start seeing real trailers, and advertising, and clips, and promotion for it, and by the time November comes around you still aren't all that interested, then by all means, don't go see it. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But to write if off this far ahead of time, saying that you won't even buy the DVD of it... to me, that seems like you're just giving up on Disney Animation completely.

Gnomeo and Juliet looks like utter shit.
I hate the character already, what on earth is it supposed to be?
And LOL at Rich Ross. Let's see, if we take out Marvel, and Pixar, and everything Dick Cook greenlighted, well, what do we have left?
NOTHING.
I hope that piece of crap doesn't take credit for Cook's work. Seriously, Idiot Iger made a stupid movie firing Cook when he's got Alice, Prince of Persia, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Tron, John Carter of Mars etc. all lined up.
Oh wait, is Prom Ross' first project? Sounds like a friggin High School Musical/Camp Rock/Miley Cyrus/Jonas Bros. project but that's expected since that's the douchebag's specialty.

Couldn't they atleast made Gnomeo cuter? He's played by James Mcavoy(Hottie!)for Pete's sake!I was expecting him to have classic gnome look just with a hint of youth, but this is just bad.No one wants to see a Kevin Federline themed gnome.

Before people complain about Gnomeo, I feel somebody should point that there's no telling how long ago that test footage was made. Almost undoubtedly, the film has gone through radical changes, including character design. I can't say it will be radically different from that design, but I'm sure it will be different.

I really didn't want to believe this, but check out what I just found....

The logo is nearly identical, looks like it's coming in early 2011....
--EDIT--
Also found this out...
Gnomeo and Juliet is being made by Starz Animation (the company that made "9") and Rocket Films.
http://www.starzanimation.com/OurWork/I ... uliet.html
here's another article I found explaining why Disney is involved.
My guess now is that Disney is only distributing this, much like "In the Wild" or "Valiant".

here's another article I found explaining why Disney is involved.
http://animationandgame.wordpress.com/on Tuesday February 9th the senior Digital Animation class took a trip to Starz Animation, the production studio of “9″. They toured the production areas and explored Starz current pipeline for Gnomeo & Juliet. Many thanks to Jason, Lance and Rob for taking the time with us. Gnomeo & Juliette is an animated feature from Disney. It features the songs of Elton John (who also also acts as a producer), and features James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as two garden gnomes in a twist on Shakespear’s classic tale. ( I have to stop here as I signed the non-disclosure agreement.)
