Miley has no business next to MJ and Elvis!

All topics relating to Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruises.

Is Miley's inclusion insulting to the other people portrayed in the hall?

Yes, absolutely!

No big deal. It's just a wall in Disneyland.

I loved that [Tony Baxter] didn't even bat an eye when asked about the Miley Cyrus poster. He simply said, "That was my decision and I stand by it." And he meant it
He explained to us that he was at lunch one day and asked the waiter's opinion. The waiter gave him a few options, but I don't remember the other ones. I love that he just asked a random person who was close by when he was thinking about it, that's real, you know?

Something tells me it's the agents, not the people themselves. I have a feeling that if an agent gets a call from Disney for treatment like that, they'll probably see it as a great opportunity to make extra $$, while Disney is simply looking to honor them. Basic split in priorities leads to issues with permissions.
You make a very good point. There are permissions to be given and money to be paid for what can be interpreted as implied endorsements of Disney. Disney may just be looking to recognize important people, but business is still business. It's one more reason why Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana) and Michael Jackson (as Captain EO) are hanging on the wall. Disney already owns the rights to those images. Honoring Bill Gates isn't much of stretch either, with Microsoft's current sponsorship of Innoventions. With a bemused expression, Tony Baxter said they've been trying to get permission to put Steve Jobs in the gallery, but it hasn't happened yet. Given Jobs iconoclastic, private nature (despite serving on the Disney board of directors), this isn't a surprise. It sounds like there's a very good story behind it, though, that Tony wasn't telling.

I'm incredibly lucky to have had Mr Baxter explain this decision to me directly.

He seemed very clear that this might not have been the choice he would have made but in asking a random person ( a waiter) of that generation) - it's the name he was given.

The point being, it's every generations right to pick who they view as a symbol of the time. It's not the right of older generations to dictate to them who is important and who is not. And as time moves on, anyone on the wall could change.

My guess is that some "Children of the 80's" might take to task that Michael Jackson was chosen of the symbol of that generation. Same with Elvis. Or any of the other celebrities who grace the wall as you exit.

I'm not sure I see what the big deal is. Mr Lincoln and the entire experience is classy and not with a capital K.

There is no advertisement pushing Miley or the Disney entertainers. She just happens to be a picture as you pass quickly from the theater.

As for me, I felt much respect for Mr Baxter as he acknowledged the chatter surrounding the decision and explained and stood by his decision without any apology. If it's good enough for him, I'm sold.

Ridiculous. Singer of this generation, my a*s! That is definately not the case. If Miley was not "owned" by Disney, her poster woudn't even make it to the trash can of the theme park.

I wish Disney would stop trying to shove down our throat their teen idols. If you like them fine but this over and cross-promoting gets idiotic sometimes.

As if putting Miley's poster on the same wall with music legends would make Miley gain higher status and respect in our minds.

Time to put this thread out of its misery (brandishes a gun and shoots the thread).

Miley Cyrus in Lincoln Hall

Oh my gosh this is hilarious.

Tony Baxter didn't pick her.

He asked a random person, and just used what they said. And he thinks she probably wouldn't have been his own choice, but just went with the first choice from someone else.

And that is somehow supposed to be good enough reason Miley is on that wall.

HIL-AR-IOUS.

JustOneBite, you really should change your avatar. Children, or just people who don't want to see curse words, will not be able to avoid your avatar.

Well, children should definitely not be roaming around message boards as it is. But if it bothers you that much I'll look for something more wholesome.

You are right, but I have heard that children (and even adults just offended by vulgarity) do come to these boards because they are about Disney. At a Disney forum it's just wise to pick which threads to post risky words (and I would bleep or star them like f*** for instance), but in your avatar it's always in every thread you post!
