So, since I only paid under $15 for the current DVD, and soon $10 for the new one, then I would have paid only $25 for the movie on two DVD editions (which sounds about normal up here for a single DVD). Too bad there's no Blu-ray (sorry, had to bring it up, but a DVD is fine for me).
Yeah, I am picking this one up as well. I want the new transfer to. If it wasn't for that, I would have def skipped this re-release in a heart beat. =)
Yeah the transfer comparrison is what saved itself and is the main reason I will be buying it plus it's one of my favorite DAC from the 80's...

though it's sad to see that some bonus features were cut...ala Sword in the Stone and Bedknobs and Broomsticks....

Just pre-ordered this on Amazon. It's basically a blind buy. I've never seen this film in my memory, so I hope I'm not disappointed. And if I am, it can sit nicely on my DVD shelf with my other Disney films. :-)

For the people who own the previous dvd edition:

1.) How would you characterize the picture quality of the transfer?
2.) How elaborate was the picture gallery?

I'll be picking this up tomorrow, since I don't already own it. It will be my first DAC purchase in over a year. Though the film isn't one of my favorites, I'll be happy to finally have it in my collection.

Can't believe everybody wants $14.99 for it (when the retail is only $19.99). WalMart.com has it for $11.86 but they won't pm their own website. So I ordered it Site to Store & I'll pick it up next week for $11.86 (with free shipping to the same store that won't match the website). Idiots.

Hahahaha that is seriously the stupidest thing.

Does anybody know when they'll announce the winner for the free giveaway contest? Cuz I'm buying it if I don't win :(

Edit: Nevermind. Looks like I'm buying it haha

I'm definitely picking this up today. I found it on futureshop.ca for $9.99, hopefully it will be the same price in-store.

I love this. They wouldn't pm their website but WalMart.com sent it Site to Store (for free) & I just checked the tracking. They sent it FEDEX! It is scheduled to arrive by the 16th (although when I ordered it the website said between the 22nd & the 28th).

The transfer on the old one was good but not great, as the review stated the new edition features a brighter transfer and an adjusted aspect ratio (from 1.66:1 to 1.78:1). As for the photo gallery, it was nice, mostly had posters and promo shots (haven't really looked at it for a while).

Anyhow, I got my copy earlier today, here in Canada, Future Shop has it for $9.99 (even though the flyer said $13.99) - I think I mentioned that before.

Just a few things bug me, seeing as this is my first new Disney DVD in a while (all my recent purchases have been on Blu or older editions of titles): The big is why do they list the Blu-ray is suite and the Disney File ads on the case, especially since this one doesn't offer either. Also, still not a fan of these silly named Special Editions, "Mystery in the Mist" Edition? you didn't see the new edition of Apollo 13 (which I also bought today) dubbed "The 'Huston, We have a Problem' Edition." But that's just my thoughts, haven't watched it yet, will do and post my thoughts on the actual disc based content later.

This release is rather pathetic.

One is at a loss to why Disney refuses to just put all the skimpy features into one to make it the 'definitive' version.

Ridiculous.

I was surprised about the price. Cheaper than retailers in the states, even Amazon. Must be because our dollar went above parity. :D

I was surprised too, but all around it was a pretty cheap release, The Real Canadian Superstore had it for $12.99, and Best Buy had it for around $15.00. It was also very quiet. Future Shop only had two copies, and they weren't even in the Disney section. I had to hunt for it, and finally gave up and asked.

Yep. Although, it might have been because I told a few of my friends about the low price...
