This was one of the movies I was hoping would get a special edition treatment. I'm happy about this and if the transfer/bonus features are any better than the last release then I think everyone else should be happy too. This will hopefully get the DVD release it deserves. Perhaps since Disney seems looking in this direction we'll see a special edition of one of the movies listed above by Barbossa next year. Looks like we'll get a special edition of a movie that's very frequently overlooked. This is reason enough for a celebration!

I had a huge hunch it would be getting one; it's been more than the 7 year cycle for this film. I'm picking it up no matter what. Not only is it on my Top 5 Disney flicks, but there was something wrong the last DVD.
Did anybody notice that around the 11th chapter of the last DVD, only the right channel of music was heard? The left (usually where all of the violin chords are) was just replaced by the right track.
In English: The music mix was bad after Chapter 11, so I'm hoping they change it for the better this time.

Since I don't own this film already on dvd, I will definitly pick it up. I'm sure there will be nothing 'special' about this special edition, but even if it has just one deleted scene (like The Aristocats and Robin Hood dvd's), it will be better than the one that's out now. Of course I'd rather see an audio commentary or Behind-the-Scenes with Clements and Musker, but we can safely assume that's not going to happen, since Disney doesn't pay much attention to any film made between 1967 and 1989, no matter how good it is.

Didn't get the first release of this. Might get it on DVD, will definitely get it if it's remastered for Blu-ray (although the chances of that are very slim).

I pretty much agree. If it has something worthwhile (an in-depth making-of documentary or deleted scene(s0, then I'll pick this up). If it's like Oliver & Company's, The Sword in the Stone's, or Bedknobs and Broomsticks' newest releases, though, with nothing significantly added to it, then I won't be picking it up. I'll be picking up The Black Cauldron regardless of what's on it (mostly because my copy is scratched, even though it only pauses for a split second in one spot), but I really have to weigh the pros and cons of new DAC releases, since I own them all and money is tight. I do hope we learn more about what'll be on here soon, so if I need to sell my old copy, I can, before "outsiders" know that a new release is coming.JiminyCrick91 wrote: I'm personally of two minds about this. Let me guess, it'll be a pre-mature 25th Anniversary Edition. Or will it be called the "Super Sleuth Edition"?
I'll only re-buy it if it's a blu-ray release or a substantial new edition (commentary and the works). Since neither are likely to happen, I won't be giving the mouse much money when this release happens.

I guess we gotta just wait and see what will be included on the DVD. I am sure this will not be on blu-ray. This will be like Sword In The Stone DVD re-release. Nothing Special AT ALL!
Who is in charge of the releases now? ALso who is in charged of putting on the bonus features beacuse THEY STINK AT THEIR JOB! lol

I think it's more of a matter of whether or not the people at Disney DVD and BD believe the release will make enough money to justify putting together new and/or better special features. If the films didn't sell that well when it was first released on DVD, what would the addition of a bunch of newer special features really do to boost the sales of the new edition. The best fall back that would probably make this a better new sale would be to offer or say there is a better restoration of the film. That is something anyone can understand and care about.
I also think that this is the time for Disney to start releasing more on BD. BD sales have been picking up lately and Disney needs to put more product out there so that people continue to buy Disney BD with the limited budget that many have to spend on entertainment. The Great Mouse Detective on the other hand might not be the best pick to start their non-platinum or diamond BD releases. I would guess that the film is more popular that many other DAC's but a much better choice would be Hercules or Hunchback.
My overall feeling about this release is that I'm more excited about other releases in 2010, but I'm happy to see it coming. Hopefully it will offer some new interesting features but I would probably pick it up anyway. I've said it before, but I'm a sucker for new cover art!
