2D animation at its best

Post by nickatina »

Here we can discuss scenes that sort of seem out of place but work incredibly well for the movie because it will never look believable and good in 3D animation. Im talking about scenes like pink elephants that show all the things that make 2D one of a kind, it was also done well in "friend like me"

So basically just discuss scenes that seem to go into their own reality and show all the wackiness of 2D animation

I've always enjoyed the Disney transformation scenes (Cinderella, Beast, Kenai), and I'm personally glad that those were traditionally drawn...I think that hand-drawn animation is so magical anyway, and those extra-magical scenes are just perfect.

I liked the scene in bambi when hes twitterpatted and prancing thru the clouds with Faline and then fights Ronno, the silhouttes of the deer duking it out along with the music made the scene stand out a lot and captured the intesnisty of fighting

Do you ever read something and wish that you had thought of it? This is one of those occasions:

Those are both so stylized that I'm glad they were in 2D. Good thinking, Patrick! :)

Absolutely. Although I'm always disappointed that we don't get to see a little bit more of the firebird in his awesome big bird form.

And then of course the scene that single-handedly made me decide that I wanted to be a Disney animator... the Beast's transformation. Glen Keane did such an amazing job. And when the pencil test version of it was released on the Platinum Edition I just about peed my pants in excitement. I don't think it can get any better than that.

Hard question because I dont believe CGI trumps 2D animation is any way. It's just a different medium.

Strangers Like Me in Tarzan, when Tarzan teaches Jane how to swing on the vines. That movie is so gorgeously rendered.

Pretty much everything made during Walt is life time.
Der Fuehrer's Face is the greatest Donald Duck cartoon ever made.

I'd say any scene involving Pride Rock. Oh, and The Nutcracker Suite from Fantasia. Pinocchio's nose growing comes to mind, too.

Many of these scenes could work in 3D animation, I think. Pride Rock, Some of what was made during Walt's lifetime, etc, would possibly work. I think the topic was created to single-out the scenes that downright wouldn't work in any other medium.

Bingo :D

"A girl worth fighting for" does it well too, with the images of how their dream girls would look like

I always loved the part in Hercules where the Titans were released (the Cyclops in particular was animated amazingly well).

And the final scene with Cruella. Her car...just...awesome.
