The commentary's pretty good. Informative, entertaining, and not a praise-fest. They even touched upon the race controversy with the crows.

OK, my friend went to Mexico last week and was able to find this for me. In fact, he brought me 4 extra copies that I have started to put up on eBay.

Unbelieveable. Looks just amazing!

And I was surprised to see how substantial the bonus features are. There is an all new half hour HD documentary (in addition to the older 15 min DS one) and an entirely new Cine-explore track... lots of great info. Also, there are a couple Silly Symphonies that appear to be restored and presented in full HD.

And the DVD is fully playable on US players too... so there's not much of a drawback to this edition.

The thing that's so exciting to me about this release is the potential it holds for future non-Diamond Blu-ray releases.

I really hope that many of the smaller films like Robin Hood, Ichabod and Mr. Toad, The Rescuers, etc will finally receive top notch restorations and bonus features. I'm a big fan of commentaries (and by extension Cine-View), and would love for these smaller films to get the same treatment Dumbo has.

As much as I am angry that Disney has delayed the release of Dumbo in the US, I am excited that maybe they are making a commitment to only releasing top quality editions of their titles on Blu-ray. My hope is that cash-ins like the new Great Mouse Detective release are only coming to DVD because Disney is hoping to release them on Blu-ray when they have the time and budget to treat them well.

If that means only getting 3 animated classics a year on Blu-ray, I find the tradeoff well worth it.

Did you get the slipcover or (like me) were yours without one? I'm not worried as I figure I'll just wait for the US release & then buy the American version with a slipcover & then take it back (conveniently leaving the slipcover at home). I can't wait to get my copy from the guy I bought it from over at dvdtalk.

That's true... though I guess it remains to be seen how good it is. I highly doubt it will look as well restored as Dumbo or Snow White though. And I really doubt there will be a commentary or any kind of substantial new documentary.

No slipcovers. Though I've never understood why they're desirable. I take them off and throw them in a box when I do get them. It's just a piece of cardboard that duplicates the package art that's already there and adds an additional step to opening the cover. Why are they so sought after?

I would hope it wouldn't need the type of restoration Dumbo and Snow White got since it's a much newer film. Restoring it shouldn't take as long or cost as much.

I think slipcovers make the overall package look more impressive and complete.

Oh dear....it seems your comments have put Escapay into a fit....quick someone inject him with with Prozac that should bring him about after hearing comments that praise slipcovers.....

Anyway I bought one off a guy at High def digest forums...because the guy at DVDtalk ran out...and after hearing it had cine-explore I figured why not? Idk if it will have a slipcover and if it dosnet oh well..im not paying $30 for a piece of paper..im paying it for the movies

The slipcover, albeit useless, is nice. It's actually glossier than most. Meanwhile, this is a bit more promising than some of disney's past "Special Editions" and it doesn't suck the juice out of Diamonds either. Most features are new and substantial, but there isn't an overwhelming amount compared to other Animated Classics. Either way, Disney finally earns my encouragement and praise!

Yeah....althought their release department of when to release it in the USA.....not so much getting praise from me espcially when it's basicly a done product more than one place.....grr......Did Canada get this? Or are the USA and Canada getting left out until 2011?
