Goliath wrote:Just some great scenes:
The entire wedding sequence at the beginning of The Godfather, with the beautiful contrast between the bright, joyful celebration going on outside and the dark, dirty business in the Don's office.
Frodo going fishing at the end of The Godfather- Part II, intercut with Michael in his office.
I forgot to add scenes from these movies to my list.

These are great ones, but I could pick just about anything from either one of these movies on my list, particuarly the ending of Part I.
The delivery of the final line, "Don Corleone", on top of the brilliant orchestration and perfectly timed door slamming? Magnificent.

Another classic. I already added one scene from
American Beauty on my list, but if I was to add another besides this to my list, it would be Carolyn's real estate pitch sequence, ending with her breaking into tears and taunting herself after an unsuccessful day. It's funny what a repeat can make scenes such as this that meant little on a first viewing stand out as essential bits of character while viewing it again.

"Who is Keyser Soze? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone."
What an unforgettable twist. Still gold.
After watching
Casablanca again today, I also want to add the entirety of the movie to my list, possibly at #4. Forget Rick's last delivery of "Here's looking at you, kid". There isn't one weak scene or line in this classic.
