I don't even wanna think what the Black Cauldron might have attatched as a stupidly named edition.....when its re-release comes.....and it better be 5 times better than this in the special features deparment......

I'll be happy enough to have it released. Because it's even more underrated and unappreciated than TGMD I'm afraid it won't be treated any better. A good cover with most of the characters and a good transfer would be nice, but a few more bonus features would be good.

Maybe it'll get a weird subtitle like "The Black Cauldron: Legend of Prydain Edition." Really, "The Black Cauldron: 25th Anniversary Edition" would be good enough.

Incidentally, I never got the newest release of Aristocats and I forget, was that an upgrade from fullscreen to widescreen between the two DVD releases? I have the first, but I don't watch it too much. I like it, but it's not one of my top faves of the DACs. Still, I do need to get the newer one if it gives an aspect ratio upgrade.

Then to your delight, the new special edition iis in widescreen instead of full screen which the Gold Collection Edition was. It was also confirmed in the aspect ratio thread that only the Special Edition presents the film in it's Original Aspect Ratio:

I made a now-ignored thread in the Polls & Games section which discussed possible edition titles for Disney's home video releases as I was inspired by Disney's Un-Anniversary Edition of AiW. I never thought that it would have come this far

So I do not think that it is no longer impossible for us to get

What I want to know is: WHY didn't Disney carry over the scrapbook from the previous edition? I mean, "bonus features" are awfully meager as it is, but why not throw it in? I know a *real* art gallery is too much to ask for since this film was not produced between 1937-1967 or 1989-2000, but STILL...! Why not the scrapbook? It's not that I desperatelt *want* it, or need it, or won't buy the dvd without it... It just DOESN'T make sense. There's absolutely NO valid reason to exclude it!...

Okay, I'm done now.

The only things I wanna know is: is picture quality better than the old version? And will it have the same Dutch voices? (The Aristocats new edition unpleasantly surprised me when I discovered, to my shock, that the old voices were replaced with new ones!)

My friend Joey told me about the re-release when he read it of UD. So of course I came straight here to read for it myself lol. I do like "The Great Mouse Detective" a lot and I think deserves a re-release, but I'm still on the bandwagon that's awaiting the re-releases for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Hercules". I might be double dipping on this one when it comes out, I'll just compare it to the edition I already have and see if it's worth it or not.

If "Hercules" does get a lame DVD reissue, I'd bank some decent money on the Zero to Hero Edition. It will include a shiny slipcover and a game that cost more money to make than it would have cost to port over any substantial bonus features. And "The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Topsy Turvy Edition" feels too lame to not be a possibility at some point down the road.

Disney are run by a bunch of fools, it'll be something you won't expect, something like Hercules: Buff and Tuff Edition. I think they should sell their library to some other studio if they aren't going to bother making a decent release.
