Actually I know people who loved them as Cedric and then went on to say Twilight ruined him...Man, people can be such extremists. I completely understand where you're coming from. But the thing is, it is a fantasy. It's allowed to have an magical definition of "love". Letting love become an obsession is a lot of romance novels and to say it's out of place in a Twilight throws me off. Different books call for different worlds, different scenarios, and different measures. The whole Tiana thing; you also have historical accuracy to think about. It would also have made for an even bigger "cinderella story"; simply put: people complain too much. I don't know, I'm not gonna say that these books are good because they aren't. They're written in a very surprisingly unprofessional way, and they drag on and on. But the concept is good enough, the stories are good time-spenders. I question the integrity of any teacher that assigns any of these books. But i just choose to enjoy them. I think Twilight would have been a better TV show than it is a book and film series.
Anyway, I just saw New Moon. It was OK. The direction has definitely improved. But the emphasis they make on Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson's physique still annoying.

See, the thing is, if you want to read them as trivial books for larfs or thrills or whatever, that's cool. I have a friend who does that. It's the same reason why I like certain movies I acknowledge to be terrible. But the thing is, I will flat-out admit those things are terrible. I wouldn't get many similar responses from the disturbing fanbase, I think.

Here's a article that Springheeljack might agree with on Miley Cyrus's thoughts of the whole Twilight

Spoony's 46.5 minute rant on Twilight: New Moon is quite amazing to watch. No it's not just unexplained bashing it's reasoned in an understandable and entertaining way and he even manages to find redeemable qualities depending upon the view you might take on the film! I found it interesting how he pointed out things here that I coincidentally mentioned already:

Terrible. "Twilight" is like those Barbara Cartland books, pure cotton-candy but little substance. I'll admit on holidays I used to adore romping through a Cartland novel but I'd be the last one to compare her to a Jane Austen or William Shakespeare.PeterPanfan wrote:Frankly, I am disturbed that classic books such as "Rome and Juliet", "Wuthering Heights", and "Pride and Prejudice" are now being reissued with labels that say, "Edward and Bella's Favorite Book."
Have these mindless tweens ever cracked a book that wasn't written by Meyers or Rowling? Where is the basis for comparison?

Are you kidding me!? I enjoyed the books and all, but this whole phenomenon thing has gone entirely too far! Shakespeare, Bronte, and Austen are all turning in their graves right now...

Actually....these have been the few books that my little sister has ever read..and enjoyed and bought.....although she refused to read Harry Potter....and she is complaining about the stuff in the book is not in the movie of the Twilight films.....and if you would have told me she'd complain about a movie because of missing stuff in a book i would have bet $20 that scenario wouldn't happen.....talk about role reversalCordy_Biddle wrote: Have these mindless tweens ever cracked a book that wasn't written by Meyers or Rowling? and she just turned 20 in August.....
Here the funny thing...I watched the movie the first one the other day and the sequel on Friday but my sister says how much they leave out.....and I ask her who are you and where is my real sister who doesn't read books because they are boring or who will only read the girl on the milk carton 5 times over

True. That's exactly how I see it, I just chose to enjoy them. You have to admit there's worst things we've payed for at the movie theater; might as well be something we already know and like. And ultimately, you can pick apart anything because everything is flawed. You can make educated responses to any piece of literature and film's imperfection..not just the obvious ones
I don't see how it became so big, but I see how it became big.

...jeez, I don't know whose side to take, Miley or the Twihards. Frankly, they both have obnoxious followers (you hear that, preteen girls and homosexuals who really should know better who like Hannah Montana?).

SOOOO glad Dark Knight held on to the weekend record. I saw New Moon with my nephew & his girlfriend and my great niece. Thank God I didn't add a penny to its box office since I had 4 passes. Next Twilight I'm going to do something more fun for me. I'm scheduling a root canal.

On the plus side, it's a way of getting Twihards to read other books.PeterPanfan wrote:Frankly, I am disturbed that classic books such as "Rome and Juliet", "Wuthering Heights", and "Pride and Prejudice" are now being reissued with labels that say, "Edward and Bella's Favorite Book."
And, like, Miley Cyrus should, like, I don't know, shut the, like, f**k up. or at least learn some new words.

Hey, at least it's a comfort to know there's one tween who remains level-headed during this fad. I was beginning to think I'd somehow walked through the looking-glass!Escapay wrote:On the plus side, it's a way of getting Twihards to read other books.PeterPanfan wrote:Frankly, I am disturbed that classic books such as "Rome and Juliet", "Wuthering Heights", and "Pride and Prejudice" are now being reissued with labels that say, "Edward and Bella's Favorite Book."

I don't give a damn how she feels about Twilight.Cordy_Biddle wrote:Hey, at least it's a comfort to know there's one tween who remains level-headed during this fad. I was beginning to think I'd somehow walked through the looking-glass!

Al, as a longtime fan of your WIST series, I sincerely wish I said that.Escapay wrote:And, like, Miley Cyrus should, like, I don't know, shut the, like, f**k up. or at least learn some new words.
I got dragged to a screening of New Moon this morning. I insisted that a free pass was used on my ticket and no money contribution was made for my behalf. The screening my mom and sister picked was at 11:00am, so luckily the rabid teeny boppers weren't there in force. They were probably either enjoying sleeping in on the first day of fall break or were too broke to pay to see it for the 7th time.
After the film, I was surprised. It's not going to win it awards, it shouldn't be making as much money as it has already made, and the acting by Pattinson and Stewart is still terrible, but I enjoyed it, much moreso than Twilight. There was more action in this one and the special effects were not godawful, which was refreshing after Twilight. Taylor Lautner was the only actor of the three leads to show any emotion other than sulking or recklessness, and I commend him for being able to look like he was at least enjoying the filmmaking process... or not being pissy boring, or something like that.
While I hope to never read Meyer's novels ever again (EVER.

To be fair to the cast on the criticism on their acting...let's consider the script itself. Its weak.
I finally saw New Moon last night, I thought it was a great movie, better than the first. The CGI wolves were done well. Its what I pictured when I read the books. I was glad they kept with the huge wolves and didn't revert to the classic humanoid werewolf on two legs. The movie started off slow, but once it picked up, it got better. But that's kinda how the book was anyways.
I was not a fan of the music. The songs they kept inserting felt more like a "buy the soundtrack" and less adding to the mood of the scenes. The score was good though. The green screen was sometimes too noticeable...such as the cliff diving. I still want to slap Bella around for a while. She's a human and can't help being vulnerable to the vamps and wolves, but her stupidity can be helped. But that's just how Meyer wrote her. I just am not a big fan of the totally weak female.
Going back to the positive....The scene where Bella crashes the bike, and is bleeding and Jacob comes over to clean her wounds....I wish there was an instant reply of him removing his shirt...I could watch that over and over again.

Oh, there are a lot of people who feel that way. Trouble is the Twilight fans are really, really LOUD!!!Cordy_Biddle wrote:I must be one of the few people on the planet who seriously couldn't give a crap about the whole "Twilight" phenom...
Twilight is crap and I'd even go so far as to say evil. The fact (in theory) I share a religion with it's author both embarrass me and discuss me. She does nothing for that faith and does nothing for writing, entertainment or women's exceptions of what good men are or look like. I find it appalling and disturbing to say the least.
