Er... Obviously, he was joking when he said Britney Spears was an example. He wasn't serious. I thought that was very clear. So I don't understand why you take that so seriously.Lazario wrote:I was with him [Maher] up until his Childish rant- especially on the "My Super Sweet 16" (he totally missed the boat on the new 16 & Pregnant show! - I wish I was joking)...
But in the end, he's lauding Britney Spears' accomplishments and criticizing Neil Armstrong's. All she did was use her mountains of cash to pay the right people to re-make her up again. How did she overcome anything? She still doesn't get half the jokes about her.
Also, when did he ever criticize Neil Armstrong's accomplishments? What he was saying, is that he can't think of any major goal the United States has achieved since the moonwalk. That was his point. That was what the "childish rant" was all about.
I know, I know... The truth hurts. And some people just can't take a joke. One of the reasons I like Bill Maher, is that he isn't politically correct. That makes it all a lot funnier.DisneyFreak5282 wrote:I turned that off after about a minute. I found that guy to be really obnoxious. What I saw was in bad taste and I thought it was rude and disrespectful.
However, I think Maher made a very good point about him not wanting to be somebody who tells a person that their destructive behaviour is good and give that person whatever he wants. I think that's the key to Michael Jackson's death. If only he didn't have so many people around him who approved of -or even encouraged- his outrageous behavior, Michael Jackson would probably still have been alive. I think it's sad that you are overlooking that fact, just because you found some joke "tasteless". Because I think Maher hit the nail right on the head with that comment. If only Michael Jackson didn't always got what he wanted, he would probably still be alive and in much better shape than he had been in the last 10 years of his life.
