Plus, the fact that it's not Platinum/Diamond and it's being released on Blu-ray means we might get more non-Platinum/Diamond Blus this year.

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the Platinum Editions have not been marketed as such since Snow White, at least in the U.S. I was mighty confused when all the Beauty and the Beast advertising called it the Special Edition. It wasn't until I held the box in my hand that I knew for sure that I was buying a Platinum Edition.
Well, until Disney announces that Dumbo has officially replaced Fantasia, I am going to keep my hopes upBrandonH wrote:Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the Platinum Editions have not been marketed as such since Snow White, at least in the U.S. I was mighty confused when all the Beauty and the Beast advertising called it the Special Edition. I love that! I hope they use something like that for the cover! I'm now excited for this, I love Dumbo and don't own it on DVD. But I sincerely hope that it hasn't replaced Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 for their Diamond/Platinum releases. I really want to see the flying whale scene in HD! Here's to hoping.jrboy wrote:

For those reasons I doubt they'd use it. It's very much lacking in floating off model heads and logos in boxes.Disneykid wrote:Wow, that ad's really classy and striking. I, too, hope that the cover is something along those lines.
If they did use it however then hopefully a wide variety of classy uniform cover art will come for other Disney animated titles.

Ouch, the add says (single-disc?) blu ray and 2-disc dvd.
I hope the second disc is a real bonus disc and not just a digital copy.
Or..... it could refer to "for the first time" meaning first time on blu ray, which could still be 2 discs. And first time on 2 disc dvd, as it's not Dumbo's first on (single disc) dvd.

Either that or since Blu-Ray holds more information there'll be no need for a second Blu disc, seeing as they would be able to hold all the bonuses on one Blu disc because the movie is so short (although I hope that's not the case, the more bonuses, the better).mvd24 wrote:Ouch, the add says (single-disc?) blu ray and 2-disc dvd.

But I really think (like you said) that they did mean "for the first time" referring to the first time on Blu-Ray and first time on 2-Disc DVD (like LATT, TLM, TJB, PP, and 101D were advertised as "First Time on 2 Disc DVD").

I'm glad to see "2-disc DVD" listed, but I'm not going to let myself get too excited until we know that the second disc is a bonus feature disc and not just a digital copy, as others have said.

Sometimes I think they misuse the names purposely. Because if they use "Special Edition" to label and promote a film that's a part of the Platinum (or Diamond?) line, when they re-cycle the titles/line they can then promote it with "Platinum Edition." That way, the consumers respond with:
"I don't have insert-favorite-movie-here."
"Well, I don't have the Limited Edition."
"Well, I don't have the Special Edition."
"Well, I don't have the Masterpiece Edition"
"Well, I don't have the Platinum Edtion."
"Well, I don't have the Diamond Edition. Hmm."
As for my thoughts on Dumbo going Platinum, I'm glad--the more films the better. Dumbo, in particular, deserved a spot. I would say it's more iconic Disney than Aladdin, Fantasia or Sleeping Beauty. (Not that those films don't deserve to be there).
Now if only there were some way to get The Sword in the Stone on that list...

Like everyone else, I'm really impressed with the flyer. It is Blu-Ray insert size, so I wonder if that will be found inside the Snow White case? And like others have speculated, I think that both the Blu-Ray and the DVD will be full 2-disc sets, meaning bonus features on both discs. Disney seems to have stopped selling the Platinum/Diamond titles for digital media devices, so I see no reason to expect a digital copy with this release. Although I'm sure the Blu-Ray will also have disc 1 of the DVD, like has been done with Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, and Snow White, thus making it a 3-disc set (2-disc Blu-Ray, 1-disc DVD).

It's pretty much confirmed that Disney will include a DVD with the Blu-ray from this article: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3252goofystitch wrote:Like everyone else, I'm really impressed with the flyer.
