I don't blame you for not watching in the early stages. My family and I just see it as time-passer really. It won't be until the top 12 is decided that it'll [possibly] get good.
And I agree with you about Tatiana, JS.
To be completely honest though, I don't like any of the three that got to the top 12 so far. Danny (is that his name?) has an extremely boring voice, but somehow I knew he'd end up making it all the same because of his sob story. Alexis definitely has potential, but you couldn't tell it from the song she chose and she really has a bad stage prescence (that can only get worse on a bigger stage). And Michael...well, I'll just be ignoring him. The only genre I could see him making it in at all is Country, so I don't have any interest in him (not that I hate Country in general, but the men are usually generic).
It's kind of annoying though that they have so many people I like, and then only 3 of them are going to be seen again (I hate the format). Out of next week's group, I hope the red-headed girl who did a rock-ish rendition of "Because of You" and Adam Lambert (did a Cher song) do well.

DD you hit the nail on the head about Danny. His voice is nothing exceptional, yet he will continue to do well because of his story. If they want AI to be a non biased show they need to keep their personal lives off TV. A lot of people will throw votes his way cause his wife is dead... as terrible as that may sound it's true.
Though I will admit Tuesday was the first time I didn't hate his voice.
I hate this group format as well, it's gonna screw over many great singers.
Ideally I would have loved this as a top 12 (both from talent and entertainment factor... Kara hit the nail on the head when she said perfect isn't always entertaining... that's why I hate Melinda Doolittle)
Anoop Desai
Danny Gokey
Matt Breitzke
Nick (Norman) Mitchell
Scott MacIntyre
Nathaniel Marshall
Tatiana Del Toro
Lil Rounds
Jackie Tohn
Taylor Vaifanua
Jasmine Murray
Alexis Grace
Throw Adam Lambert in if it's a Top 13.
Sadly, it won't happen, but it would have made one thoroughly entertaining season.

You know, I think the next American Idol is probably going to be a good-looking girl, I think the judges know that Kelly Clarkson is undeniably the most successful American Idol, so far, and they want the next Kelly Clarkson now.
It's just a pity that Stevie Wright (the one with the uncanny resemblance to Jessica Biel) and Casy Carlson sound like average Karaoke singers, otherwise things would be predictable for me.

Sadly, tonight was really boring. They all kind of blended together into an uninteresting mess. The only standouts were Allison Iraheta (red-headed girl who did "Alone") and Adam Lambert ("Can't Get No Satisfaction"; last of the night). As for who could be the third person I'd want to see, it honestly doesn't matter but I'd choose Matt Giraud (the guy who didn't use a piano and Simon said would get the girl vote).
Norman Gentle was hilarious, but it would probably irritate me to see him get someone-who's-using-AI-as-a-singing-boost's spot.

I was almost tempted to say the same thing last night, Widdi.
But the early parts are always a little boring (though this year's been worse).
Anyway, YES! The three I liked best all made it through (Allison, Chris and Adam). Honestly, this week, I don't care that 8 of the others won't be seen again. Unlike last week, I really didn't like any of the rest.
Also, Brooke White! I thought the song was really good for her and I might be tempted to buy her CD.
Yeah, I don't think this season will even be comparable to the last. Carly Smithson and the two David's I'll be following for a while, and I even have somewhat interest in the lessers, Jason Castro, Brooke and Michael Johns.

Ugh...
Kris Allen got in cause he's hot and Adam got in cause the 14 year old girls have no clue he's just not that into their gender (for the record, I hate his voice, even if he is slightly entertaining on mute I would have rather he not got in). He shall henceforth be known as Clay Aiken 2.0.
Happy about Allison at this point I hope she wins.
Season Eight sure is turning out to be one hell of a sausage-fest. I guess it should be cause the girls are really bad this year... I just hope the judges don't feel the need to give all the wildcard slots to women just to even out the genders. I need me some more Anoop!
I'm gonna miss Norman. He gave the show that entertainment factor that it severely lacks. Technically good singers are technically boring!
Group three should be another week like the first in the sense that it'll be who has the biggest sob stories competition instead of a singing one.
Man has the show ever crashed. Hopefully it'll go the way of Canadian Idol next year and just eliminate itself.

I think you are all being a little tough on AI. This is still all the preliminary rounds, getting down to that 'magical' Top 12, which will happen next Thursday when the Judges bring back some people who they think deserve a second chance, and then make their choices of the three best after they perform one more time.
Remember, next week AI is on Tuesday (2-hours), Wednesday (Results), and then Thursday the Wild Card show. At the end of Thursday show we will know who is in the Top 12, and I really think that we are going to have a knock out Top 12, with everyone's votes counting more than ever before.
Now that they have changed the 'mentoring' for the contestants, it will be interesting to see what themes they have for each show. You know that one of the weeks is going to be Country Week, and after last season's success, a Broadway Week will also be included.
I am really looking forward to this season. I know that it won't be as strong as season's past, but I will give it a fair and honest watch each week and see what happens.

Thoughts:
*Very happy with the top three; they're all really good (though the jury is still out on Adam, who is too old for the look he tries to pull off and is annoying despite his obvious talent)
*Allison's performance was amazing! She also bears a striking resemblance to Bethany Joy Lenz (now known as Bethany Joy Galeotti), aside from the flaming red hair.
*I'm rooting for Kris Allen. He's really talented and also a friend of a friend (making two personal connections I have with the top 36 this year!)
*I'm a fan of Brooke White but that was a weak performance and a terrible choice for a single. Good luck getting that on the radio.
*I would probably have taken Matt Giraud over Adam Lambert, despite a bad week for Matt. I think he'll be back for Wildcard, along with maybe Jasmine Murray from this week.
*I'm still holding out hope that Anoop returns next week!
*As with last season, the brunt of the talent clearly lies with the guys this year (which is kind of an exception to the rule).

Yet again the guys outshine the girls. My personal picks would be the first and last guys: Von Smith and Jorge Nuñez (“Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”). I loved that whole part about how, when he gets emotional, the words just come in spanish.
And I kind of like Nathaniel Marshall--he’s just got the weirdest face structure! His cheeks jut out like he’s always got something in his mouth.
Not that I think he's ugly, just different than anything I've seen.
Oh, and the blind guy. He really did sound good in parts and I have a feeling he will make it through, but I don't think he could win. When he goes higher up, sometimes he gets whiny. And I don't know if he would make it without the handicap.
I didn’t really like any of the girls, to be honest, but I’m guessing the country girl (Kendall?), the girl who did Beyonce or the black woman at the end (my personal favorite from the auditions) will probably end up as the one who makes it through.
And has anyone noticed that they had a "gimmick" person every round? Tatiana del Toro, then Nick Mitchell and finally Nathaniel? It's funny, because the first and last are great singers, and the second gave the most entertainment value to the show so far.

After watching (and listening) to last night's show, twice, I have come to the conclusion that we will have a female American Idol this year.
Did you hear Lil Round?? She took that song and made her own, and those runs were absolutely fantastic. She has a fantastic career ahead of her, and I look forward to each week to hear what she is going to do next.
Jorge was so charming, and after all the hard work with a dialect coach and all, and his almost perfect rendition of an Elton John song, "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", I think he is going to make it through with flying colors.
I don't know what it is, but this year, they all seemed to pick the wrong song, and those who made it through shined above all of this. Let's hope that when the judges pick the three 'Wild Cards", that they get it right!!

I was glad that Jorge made it to the top 12. Lil Rounds I enjoy (though I don’t like her genre of music) and John MacIntyre was expected (*sigh*).
Anyway, from the wild cards, I hope Ricky Braddy makes it tomorrow if noone else. I like Anoop Desai, Von Smith and Jasmine Murray as well, but I know that not all my favorites will make it through. Also, I am glad Tatiana was given another chance, because she can sing.

I was three for three tonight, and that has never happened with me. Scott, Lil and Jorge in the final nine. The 'wild card' nominees are all exciting and the show should be pretty exciting to watch.
Now I would like to say a few things to those people who insist on spoiling the show for the rest of us.
Never mind that this is a discussion board. Any spoilers that pertain to 'rumors' of something that is going to happen should not be allowed when it comes to this show. VoteForTheWorst is just ane example of those kind of sites that are detrimental to the enjoyment of the show. Unless they publish the name of their source for their "hot" story, then we should not be allowed to publish it here in this thread.
I like watching American Idol and being surprised like all those who are competing for the prize. To find that there is a 'leak' somewhere in the show, is something that I don't want to know about unless it is made a public news story that you read in the newspaper or hear on television. I think people who can't watch the show each week without having to look at one of those types of sites is truly NOT a fan of the show.
Just my opinion.
