American Idol Season Eight

Post by PeterPanfan »

50 minutes into American Idol Season 8, my favorite so far is Ariana, the sixteen year old.

That X-Ray guy freaked.me.out.

I recorded AI tonight, and I'll watch it either tomorrow or Thursday, I guess, but I just wanted to say that I made a 2009 AI thread a while back:

Just FYI! Can't wait to discuss this season!

I haven't watched this since.........Season 2

Honestly I don't care for the show too much once it gets past the Audition stage, after that I don't mind if I miss a show or two or a season :P

I watched the premiere just to see how Kara Dioguardi (is that right?) would be. She's kind of boring and unnecessary, imo. Anyway, I liked the rocker chick (with the pink/orange/red mixed hair) and the Oriental guy (I can't remember his name; though he could be from Hawaii, I guess).

But the auditions are my least favorite part of the show. I like it when the people get more personalized and serious. Anyway, I don't think AI's ever going to top Season Seven for me, but it's still nice to pass time with.

Me, too!!! Most people seem to prefer the auditions, so I'm glad that someone else has the same taste as I do when it comes to this! I'm not even really excited to watch last night's episode or tonight's episode. I like Hollywood Week better than the auditions, but I just want the competition to begin!

I liked Dianna, the one with the jazzy voice.

I was happy to see that the visually-impaired guy got through.

I watched it, but I usually stop after the auditions. That's my favorite part of the show. Perhaps I'll continue to watch the rest of the season. Who knows. I haven't done that since Season 1.

I forgot to say that I loved Kara! And when Bikini Girl insulted her, Kara was like, "Bitch, please." Haha.

I only noticed a few interesting peeps. I'm really only watching this season to see how Adam Lambert (from Wicked) does.

This is the first time I've missed Idol since Season 2. I might catch an episode or two this year, but I'm not planning to watch it.

The past 2 seasons have been pretty meh for me. Although I did enjoy some of David Cook's performances and I'm glad he won.

I watched about half an hour of tuesday's show and that was enough till Hollywood week. I hate the auditions and only tuned in to see how Kara would do. She's not that bad actually. These 4 judges are good together unlike the 4 morons who judge Canadian Idol. Thank God that train wreck was finally canceled...

And the competition is officially on!

My group one predictions: Danny, Alexis and Anoop all go to Top 12.

Tatiana and Michael go to the Wild Card show.

The others just go home.

Tonight's performances were pretty terrible overall.

Exceptions:

*Ricky - not a bad debut but at most he ranks #3 for the night

*Anoop - song choice struck me as a little odd but he still sounded great. I'm rooting for Anoop -- he and I went to college together and were even both at karaoke night sometimes. He was the lead singer of our primary a cappella group. I don't know him well or anything but I am happy to see him already establishing himself quickly. Great voice.

*Danny - I'm also a big fan of Danny and I thought his performance was the best of the night... his take on Mariah would have stood out even in the later stages of the show, let alone the first night.

Other thoughts...

*The girl contestants were dreadful, even if Tatiana surprised me a little bit (she wasn't a complete joke).
*I thought the judges were entirely too easy-going tonight. Looks like another guys' year so far.
*I'm still liking Kara but they've got to tell her to sit back from that microphone
*The technical problems throughout the show were a little out of control
*No one cares what the contestants' parents think about their child's performance. We already have a fourth judge, we don't need a biased fifth and sixth.

Widdi, am I wrong, but I thought that we choose one boy and one girl each night, and then the third one is the "wild card", and those 'wild card' singer will have a show of their own in which we get to pick 2 to make up the Top 12. The way they explained it at the top of the show, that is the way I interpreted it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My favorites were Danny Gokey, and Alexis (the blond with pink streaks in her hair). I Anoop gets through as the wild card and we get a chance to hear him again. The guy is really talented.

Each night the top boy, top girl and the third place finisher in votes (non gender specific) are voted into the top 12. Then once we have the first nine, a wild card competition between singers who weren't voted in will compete for the last three spots. They haven't told us if we will be voting for them or the judges will be selecting them (ala earlier seasons).

EDIT: Disregard the above. Here is how the wildcard works: Besides the three that advance to the top 12 each week, the next highest votegetter automatically advances to the WC show. The other potential picks are selected by the judges/producers.

We're not sure how the WC show will work since it's a one-hour show, which doesn't leave much time for performances (they have to announce all the WC, pick them, then introduce the top 12). It's on a Thursday (March 5), so if there were performances, the WC picks from Group 3 would be at a disadvantage since their results show would've taken place the night before.

In any case, the three WC to advance to the finals will be decided on by the judges. People think this is where the "twist" will come in - four judges, four picks, top 13.

The only people that stood out to me were Anoop Desai and Ricky Braddy, though I didn't think anyone sounded fantastic. And it's hilarious that the most annoying person (Tatiana del Toro) easily sung the best last night. She definitely has a talented voice, but I don't know if that'll combat the personality seen in Hollywood. :o

Anyway, I hope the next two weeks are better. The judges were the only entertaining part about last night (it's hard to watch the show and not like them, because they're such a big part of it). I still haven't changed my mind about Dioguardi though. She could be cut right now and it would make no difference to me.

EDIT: WHAT THE HELL?! I can't believe Michael made it over Anoop! Complete BS. Now I'm going to have to listen to that guy sing again. Ugh.

Not happy that Michael got voted in, but not surprised either. America loves their sap stories.

Anoop will be in the Top 12/13 though. There is no way he won't be Randy's Wild-card pick.

I am total agreement about the Michael and Anoop thing. Anoop is a much better singer, but Michael has "if I don't do this I will just die" story for everyone to buy into. And the voters did.

I totally am on with Danny Gokey and Alexis. They both were on top of their game, and I think we will see them all the way to the final four.

Tatiana is a drama queen, and I am glad she is gone. After rewatching the performance she did of "Saving All My Love For You" I can see why she was not brought back for another week. It was a very weak performance with no personality and no 'heart'.

And while Danny was singing "Hero", did you notice the drama queen trying to get attention and wasn't getting any and she was just fuming. I expected her to make a scene, but maybe she was cautioned not to.

Thanks for the clarification Widdi. I don't understand how this is all going to work, because next week we get the second set of 12 and a results show on Wednesday and Thursday, because of President Obama's speech. Maybe the third week will be two 2-hour shows and a one hour results to reveal the Top 12.

I haven't watched at all this season, but I *might* once the Top 12 competition starts. Is that in 2 weeks?

I just haven't really cared about AI this season. Last season, I didn't watch all of the audition shows, and I'm not sure if I watched all of the Hollywood Week shows...It is a very time consuming habit. It's not even a show to some people, it's a habit, a twice-a-week ritual, and that just can be time-consuming!
