Not necessarily. Some of them were flawless to begin with. Mine was.

How does one know? Not sure what the flaw is on this one, actually.

Wrong aspect ratio. You'll know when you watch it.

Today I recieved my amazon order containing "More Silly Symphonies". Alas, I had to realize that the discs were still the flawed ones .
I'm from Europe (Austria) and I don't want to call that expensive US number, so any experiences from fellow Europeans how to get the discs replaced?

Hi! I received my US Region 1 replacement discs within a week, I think, after contacting Disney via the email link, and I live in the UK. Their service was excellent & I didn't have to return the other discs! It didn't cost me a penny.

Matt :)

I was also very pleased with their service - but I wouldn't really know how it works as of now, since that was over a year ago.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll be posting in this.

I just received my More Silly Symphonies set. I've only given it a quick look, and it seems most of the shorts are very nicely restored (I had misgivings since this came out with Pluto Vol. 2 which is rather unimpressive restoration wise in comparison with earlier Treasures).

However, I have an issue with The Goddess of Spring. It looks (and sounds) terrible! Unless I am mistaken, it seems to be identical to the version that appeared on the 2001 Snow White DVD. Moreover, a couple of seconds from the opening score are missing. I believe that on disc 1 of the set, a short clip of the short is shown in Maltin's introduction. Ironically, it looks much better in that short clip than in its full version.

Could this be an error similar to this year's Donal Vol. 4, where an unrestored version of Working for Peanuts seems to have been included on the set?

Finally, I'm aware that back in 2006 Disney offered to replace people's discs of this set because of (if I recall) incorrect title cards. Can one still have his/her discs replaced if they live in Europe?

If it's too much trouble I won't bother. But if the Goddess restoration was fixed in the updated discs, I'd certainly try giving it a shot.

By the way ... will I be getting any more nasty surprises re audio/video quality on this set? After all I only played a couple of shorts.

Thanks

Yes you can. Go here: http://studio.go.com/cgi-bin/gmail/generic_mail.cgi?template=video/dvd_report_a_problem/report.tpl and explain that you're after the replacement discs.

Yes, they did improve Goddess Of Spring on the reissued discs.

Aside from a couple of the b/w films which presumably have suffered damage on the surviving materials, the rest of the contents are pretty good.

For full chapter and verse on the flaws fixed by the replacements discs, go here.

Thanks for your speedy replies Willy and Sharpy! ( :P )

I sent a report so I hope I'll be fine. By the way, that website makes the MSS set look like a mess. There were more defects than just a few inaccurate title cards!!

Well, now it's December 13th and I still haven't received any response from Disney. :| The website said I should get a reply in two working days. What went wrong?

OK, I'm assuming I will not be receiving a reply from Disney, at this rate.

Do you think I should fill up at that form again and resend it?

You could, but I'd give them a phone call at this point, just so you know you've dealt with a human being and something will be done. I know it's a pain having to call internationally, but on the whole I find it's ultimately easier than an endless back-and-forth of emails.

Ok. I'm attempting to get mine swapped out and contacted them already. They sent me an envelope to place my materials in (including cases) and to send back out before they'll replace mine. I'm not sending my tin, do I really want to send the case back to them? I'm already hesitant about sending the movies back to them without having anything in hand first. Please help.

I just contacted them yesterday about replacing the SS2 disc. I got a response the same day asking for my mailing address and then today I received a confirmation that they are sending out a mailing.

Nice quick response.

I never got around to replacing my discs since my last attempt. I tried again today though. I hope I get a response this time!
