Proof that happiness comes before money?
The Doctor Who News Page wrote:The Mail on Sunday newspaper in the United Kingdom is running a news story titled 500,000 pounds Mr Spielberg? Sorry, I've got a date with the Beeb, says the new Dr Who writer, in which it claims that incoming Doctor Who executive producer and chief writer Steven Moffat turned down a lucrative deal to write the second instalment of the new Tintin film franchise in order to take over the running of Doctor Who.

Moffat tells the Mail that he had originally signed up to write the first two Tintin films of the planned trilogy, to be directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. However, after completing the first film, Moffat was offered his new position with Doctor Who, and pulled out of the deal.

"I was offered the Doctor Who job and accepted immediately," Moffat is quoted as telling the paper. "I hope you won't make what happened sound too dramatic. I talked to Steven and he understood completely. I could not work on the second Tintin film and work on Doctor Who. So I chose Doctor Who. Steven is a fan and he understood my passion for the series completely."

"There are no bad feelings between Spielberg and me, but Doctor Who has to come before Hollywood."

Moffat further adds that current executive producer and chief writer Russell T Davies is working on four specials, and then Moffat will take over the running of the series.

What happened to Dalek Caan? His casing is broken. The squids just exterminated the doctor and it looks like Sarah Jane Smith is dead. I guess you can't run over Daleks like in Dalek Invasion 2150.

Thanks for the link, netty!

Well, the New Jersey Trilogy finally did it. On July 23, we rewatched Turn Left, then finally watched The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, thus completing our summer marathon of most everything new Who. Two months of 52 episodes, 3 specials, and 2 mini episodes, but unfortunately there was no Attack of the Graske or Infinite Quest for us.

And I wanna do it again as soon as possible!

Still, my god, Journey's End was just...well...I can't go back. Don't let me go back, Doctor. Please, please don't make me go back...

Nothing else in the episode mattered. Not the reality bomb, not the K-9 appearance, not the Time Lord meta crisis, not the whole shippers-shitting-themselves kissing scene...everything that happened in the episode boiled down to the most important woman in the universe. Donna Noble. Donna, you noble woman...I still can't believe your last word ever on the show was "calories".

Wait, I take it back. One thing did matter to me just as much as Donna. I was rather pissed off at the exclusion of K-9 Mark III, Hybrid Dalek Sec, and Ross Jenkins in the "how many have died for you?" montages.

And now a third Mini-Episode for Escapay's marathon.

Not sure if this is viewable outside the UK, the page doesn't have the UK disclaimer on like others do. If not, you'll have to find it by other means.

And Escapay, make sure you shout back at the screen.

Meh, I don't want her to return. I love Rose and I've always liked the fact that she'd return in series four (though I was afraid they'd mess it up), I feel it's time to let it go. She's had her story, she's finished it, let it be. Besides, there's no way they could bring her back now. They can't kéép breaking the walls between realities, there have to be some rules...

Oh dear lord, can't they leave Rose in Pete's World? Her story was finished by Season Two, and her return in Season 4 was nice but unnecessary.

Moffat should bring back Sally and Larry as the Doctor's companions.

Oh my god, why did I have to click on that link?!? Spoilers, dammit.

I just hope it's handled in a believable (for "Who") way.

And I just read the news somewhere about how Tennant is dating Georgia Moffett. Part of me is thinking, "Way to go, David!" but the other is just..."ew...that's his onscreen daughter!"

Well Escapay, you probably noticed that that Sun article is riddled with errors, so who knows if it's true or not. It seems to be picking up on rumours posted on www.doctorwhoforum.com (but it must be said, some of the rumours are posted by people who have been mostly correct in the past).

Oh and I've found the Mills 2007 effects showreel which is mainly WHOniverse stuff (plus the odd movie)

More Sun "spoilers" (or more accurately Rumours I feel). So Escapay may not want to click, but the link is a clue.

Wow! Tonight's Sarah Jane Adventures was the best yet. If you don't like clowns, it will really creep you out.

The new family are good, but Rani isn't quite a Maria... yet. Who knows how I'll feel by the end of this series. Oh, and as for Maria, there's hints we may not have seen the last of her...

3 More Torchwood Novels announced - the House that Jack Built sounds good. Being as these are for May 2009 (and presumably after the "Children of Earth" arc) I wonder if they will include the new characters (if indeed CoE will introduce two new regular characters).

Torchwood's status in Canada is related in this rather strange article
http://www.xtra.ca/public/Ottawa/The_pa ... -5765.aspx

What I can't understand is... like Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures, the CBC actually help to fund the making of the programme and get a co-production credit at the end. And yet... they're choosing not to show it?

Oh wow. Never thought that would happen. Of course, I'm not in Canada so I don't know their general attitudes about sexuality. But...wow.

I think it's just a financial thing. They likely don't have any say in how the shows are produced, they just offer some of the money to make it?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

David Tennant quits as Doctor Who

:jawdrop:

David Tennant quits as Doctor Who

David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.

Tennant stepped into the Tardis in 2005, and will leave the role after four special episodes are broadcast next year.

He made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won't be with me," he said.

"Now don't make me cry," he added. "I love this part, and I love this show so much that if I don't take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you'll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair."

'I'll miss it'

Three years was "about the right time" to play the role, he told the BBC in an exclusive interview.

"I think it's better to go when there's a chance that people might miss you, rather than to hang around and outstay your welcome," he said.

His stint in the show had been "the most extraordinary time, it's been bewildering, life changing, very exciting", he said.

"And just so much fun, such a great show to work on.

"That's one of the reasons I think it's right to take a deep breath and bow out when it's still fun, when it's a novelty.

"I don't ever want it to feel like a job, so I want to move on when it still feels exciting and fresh and that means I'll miss it."

Drama award

Tennant, the 10th actor to play the Doctor Who, left fans guessing about his return at the end of the latest series.

In the last episode, in July, the Doctor had to defeat his enemies the Daleks to save the universe.

Almost 10 million people watched as the Time Lord apparently started the process of regeneration - but did not complete it.

Tennant will appear in a Christmas special, titled The Next Doctor, before filming four more specials in January.

"They'll be the four last stories that I do," he said.

In a sign of his popularity, he was voted best drama performer in a public vote at the National Television Awards.

He has been named most popular actor at the same ceremony for the past two years. That prize has been discontinued this year.

An average of 8.1 million people a week watched the latest series - the fourth since it made a comeback in 2005 - in its Saturday evening slot on BBC One.

'Spectacular' exit

Russell T Davies, executive producer, said: "I've been lucky and honoured to work with David over the past few years - and it's not over yet, the Tenth Doctor still has five spectacular hours left!

"After which, I might drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano. But we're planning the most enormous and spectacular ending, so keep watching."

A fifth series of the show is scheduled for 2010.

Tennant replaced Christopher Eccleston, who resurrected the show after a 16-year break.

Tennant made his name in TV dramas such as Blackpool and Casanova.

He started his career in theatre and in recent months has returned to the stage with well-received performances in Hamlet and Love's Labour's Lost for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

In December last year, Tennant denied rumours that he was planning to quit after Catherine Tate - his new companion in the Tardis - told the Jonathan Ross radio show she thought the next series of Doctor Who would be Tennant's last.

He said at the time: "Catherine Tate stitched me up good and proper. She goes on Jonathan Ross and makes up a load of old nonsense."

 :o  :o  :o  :o  :o

I was looking forward to more Tenth Doctor adventures written by the Moff! Then again, all good things must come to an end. I just wish it would come to an end a year later. Too bad 2009 couldn't be a series instead of just specials...

Definitely a shame. I like Tennant, and whilst we all knew he wouldn't stay forever I don't think it's been long enough yet. I would have hoped he'd have stayed for at least one more series just to see us a year into the Moffat era. But oh well.

Although there may be on positive thing about this. Maybe now we'll see the end of bloody Rose!

I'min denial... I was fully prepared to let David go after one more series. Ten could meet his new Companion in the last special (making the first ep of series five something different than Doctor meets Girl) and regenerate at the end of the series.
Ah well, this does mean Moffat can reinvent DW much like RTD did in 2005. New Doctor, new Companion, new showrunner. Does have potential.

So, who do we think is going to be the new Doctor?

I know, this is what I was hoping to see for series five. Let Tennant help smooth the transition between RTD and Moffat by still being the Doctor, albeit one in a differently-written universe now.

Of course, there is always hope that Moff can write a story where the Doctor once again ends up on Pete's World, and has an adventure with Rose and HumanDoctor. Then we can see Tennant return to the role, at least for a guest spot. :D But that would mean more Rose, and she just annoyed me in Series Four.
Nandor wrote:Ah well, this does mean Moffat can reinvent DW much like RTD did in 2005. New Doctor, new Companion, new showrunner. Does have potential.
True. I just wish we could have had more Tenth Doctor stories by the Moff.
Nandor wrote:So, who do we think is going to be the new Doctor?
I remember netty once suggesting Kris Marshall as the Doctor, which would be quite interesting.

I wonder if Moff will use Jack Davenport or Robert Carlyle (the latter I believe was on the shortlist, but is rather old for the part since Moff stated that they had to be a certain age and fitness as it's a physically demanding role). And RTD did suggest (though I wasn't sure if it was a joke or a serious consideration) that Harry Lloyd (Baines from "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood") could be a possible contender for the role. Paterson Joseph (Rodrick in "Bad Wolf"/"Parting of the Ways") was also suggested.

BTW, who is in your avatar and banner? It doesn't look like David Morrissey.
